I haven’t been on my comp in a good while, anything I missed pertaining to the Devil in a Blue Coat?
Yeah, same. I’m reading through old posts and the OP to catch up from where I last left off. Looks like Vergil and Hawkeye are going to be on my secondary team for sure. I’ll figure out who I’ll use to fill in the last slot with once the game hits and I get hands-on with all the new cast.
So, what threads do we need for Vergil?
-This one.
-The combo one.
-Match-ups one.
-One with Vergil videos?
I know I’m forgetting something. Also, I can take care of the videos one if what I need to do is just update my first post with all the footage we all gather.
one for resets and mixups would probably be good, considering his game will most likely revolve around that and not just Dante-length combos.
If you guys don’t mind, can one of the thread titles use the “WHY ISN’T THIS WORKING!!?!?!” quote?
Its okay if you don’t want to.
Will any of you guys post of info on Vergil if you get the guide or thats a no go?..
Edit: Bad english ftw
Can’t wait to mess with Vergil in the lab , Hopefully he’s close to Dante as far as depth goes.
I doubt it. One button auto teleports ala wesker isn’t really a good sign for Dante-like depth(which is almost unparalleled in any FG i’ve played TBH)
I see…Well in that case I’m hoping he has some depth at the least lol
I think people are definitely sleeping on his mix up potential with assists and ports and there will most likely be some interesting techniques with his teleport or other moves to keep his block strings safe that will add more depth to him. If his ground ports have the same 20 frame recovery as Wesker his auto port shit is gonna get blown up by good players without assists calls first. I do like his options with meter though including how Devil Trigger makes all of his assists bigger and stronger. He’ll definitely have a lot more to him than Vanilla Wesker or Wolverine.
Without meter he’ll be boring Dante basically but I really like his options with meters.
Judgement Cut has the most apparent change according to the playtesters from Portugal, and I agree. it effectively becomes bigger than Dark Hole in scale and I’m willing to bet it’ll still hit even if it’s slightly off screen in the corner. I’m actually liking Judgement Cut because of the hitbox. it’s way too good to not abuse. Rapid Slash seems underwhelming for characters with left-rights since more often than not they can do the same thing better with a safer assist (i.e. Wesker with Doom beam). it’s not really safe since like Max said, it has no invincibility. it’s down to either Judgement Cut or Rising Sun for me, and I’m still waiting on the latter to see exactly how much invincibility it has. it could make a decent AAA if ever.
Alright, then, I’ll take care of the Video thread if that’s alright. I just need to know if I have to reserve many spots for the footage, or if one can suffice.
you can always reserve an extra post or two just in case. the matchup thread could be for purely discussions and the video thread should contain tournament play from the top players and matchups with the different characters. that way it’s probably better so people make sure to post their gameplay vids there and not in the general discussion thread or whatever.
Yeah, if you make the video thread. Try to keep it up to date with well done tutorials, matchups, and high level players. Don’t cloud it up with scrub play. Just my personal opinion.
I’ll volunteer to make the combo thread, since I have experience making combo threads (Hazama BBCS). But I think someone else volunteered already. I’d be more than happy to though, and generally keep things up to date if you need someone.
AceKillah got the thread. I posted the notations for the combos shown in Max’s ‘Assist Me!’ video there.
How’s it going Vergil players, it’s feedback time.
Once the game drops, people are going to start coming to this thread to check out Vergil’s basics; a.k.a., move notation, move properties, general strategy, quantitative values etc. My goal with the OP has been to keep everything as up to date as possible, and in a neat, easy to read format. I want to strike a balance between informative and overinformative, making the OP a valuable resource to people who are new to Vergil, while still being a useful reference to more advanced players.
As it stands, this thread is probably one of the best of all the general character threads already. So give me your opinion: what kind of information should I have in the OP and what should I leave out? Is there anything I’m forgetting that may be useful to have in the OP? The only thing I regret is not having the second post in the thread reserved, shame on me for my lack of foresight. So, given the space of one thread, however much I have left to use, what can I do to make this thread the best?
I’ll see if I can pick up a copy of the UMvC3 guide tomorrow or the next day. Expect some updates then.
general stuff would be a run down on normals specials and hypers there best uses a general game plan out line nothing match specific but a general idea of his play style and the things ppl should be going for in a match as far as basic mix ups pressure strings and then a really basic bnb and advance bnb should do it for a starter guide.
We should have a team building thread so that way people don’t come here to ask about if their team is good or not. I wouldn’t mind making it if everyone is okay with that. Check out the Felicia team building thread if you want to see how I normally structure things.
I thought the guide was released on the same day as the game. How would you be able to pick it up early? Connections? (Lol) The reason I ask is that I’d be very interested to pick it up early and look it over myself if possible, thanks.
I think some people already have the guide TBH. I don’t know how they got it but it is what it is. I’ll just wait till next week. Not in to much of a hurry.
I think strider will be more like a new wolverine because he can mash for free whereas vergil will have to work a little harder.
