Dark Slayer Style - The Vergil General Discussion Thread

So, how are you guys handling predominantly airborne opponents? I find myself having problems with Trish and Ghost Rider in particular.

Finally made it work, 90% consistency now and going up. Thanks dude lol.

I’m having problems getting in against all opponents; airborne ones are even harder. How do you guys usually get in? Knowing that Vergil’s normals are unsafe I just don’t know what to do when he’s out on point. I mostly use Spiral Swords and try to mix up, for airborne opponents I use Trick H and Helm Breaker, but otherwise its been real difficult for me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Funny I find Ghost Riders rather simple to deal with in that they are easily readable. A well placed trick teleport and I usually run right over them. Well so far. Trish is another story. I hate her because she’s so mobile in the air and Vergil…well we all know he’s no aerial ace in Mahvel. If all else fails I just give dat bitch the tiara…bitches love the tiara.

@expressioned: If I wanna run Vergil on point I just rush with weasel shot cover and chop my block strings up with trick telports. If i’m lucky they get caught in the H>S string for a second and I build some meter for a summon swords + assist mix up

Started working on vergil in the missions and training, and what’s really bugging me is the rising sun, trick, sj.M->dickery. Either i’m not getting my super jump to come out (inputs too early?) or I do get the super jump but my H after the sj.M whiffs.

Also the isedelica/high-end vergil combos are slick (roundtrips and summon sword jankery), but the concept of holding down a button while slapping others is something my fingers do not fathom in the slightest. The prospect of developing the muscle memory is daunting. I am fine with lazy, bigshit damage a la level 4 super and will enjoy people crying over it, though.

Yea that Rising Sun, Trick, Sj.M is bein a bytch for me too,it’s something I wanna get down tho seeing as it links to some of the lengthier combos.Looks like most people are havin a lil trouble with that one

THANK YOU,don’t know what I was thinking but I didn’t even think about the weasel shot assist for cover on Vergil’s rush in.Haha.I’d been using Jam Session up until now(loads license card)

Well Im glad to hear he’s not as easy peaz as Wesker as some seem to have trouble getting his game started and against certain characters. That will reduce the amount of V’s online, I’ll stick with him though. Getting the game nowww

Jam Session/Vaijra.

Seriously these assist completely shut down super jump games. Other things you can do are

Spiral Swords->teleport behind. I’m not sure exactly what you can get after this though.
Lunar Phase (this it’s high as fuck)-> combo. Rising sun (also hits high as fuck)->trick down->combo

I got blown up by so many Weskers online… definitely need to step my game up… I was just Samurai Edge’d xx tele all night long

EDIT: Aside from the mission mode, if you guys are having trouble with Rising Sun xx Trick, sj.:m:, I honestly believe doing sj.:l: first makes it a little easier. Now if you’re hitting :m: & whiffing :h:, either your :m: came out too late or you’re hitting :h: too late. For the former, I like to hit :m: the moment after I input sj. I know that sounds like ā€œduh, that’s what I’m doing,ā€ kind of a thing… but that’s all I can think of how I get it almost 90% of the time now.

Okay, so maybe I’m missing something here.

I’m seeing all these videos with Sword Storm (Maximum Vergil) being used after High Tide multiple times in the same combo. But when I try it, the opponent always seems to recover before I can scrape them off the ground. What am I doing wrong?

Oops, that’s the wrong thing I’m thinking of…
We haven’t quite figured out how to get it consistent, but it has to do with mashing out the Hyper Combo & maybe more things. If you see that a lone ā€œbubbleā€ hits the opponent at the end of the Hyper (it’s pretty noticeable), you can OTG again.

EDIT: Felinoter pointed it out below, but I guess the way I said it sorta lends to the incorrect. Mashing Hypers just adds additional hits.

mashing doesnt generate more dimension cuts, it just makes a bubble hit more.

its 100% timing - no luck involved, just crazy timing. think dante getting 8+ acid rains on chars other than tron type of timing.

I’m pretty sure it’s based on luck, not timing. Since Dimension Slash doesn’t always result in the last hit that pops them up for a follow up High Time > DS

Ok guys, since everyone is so concerned about Vergil’s safety, I wanted to revisit the earlier debate about Vergil’s Upper Slash string and how safe/unsafe it is.

After doing all the math, I can break it down like this:

Vergil’s stand S is normally -13, but is -7 after being push blocked.
Vergil’s Upper Slash (H after S) is normally -8, but is -2 after being push blocked.
If you do S-H and the opponent push blocks at S, your H will whiff and you will be at -7 frames total.
If you do S-H-S and the opponent push blocks at H, your S will whiff and you will be at -17 frames total.

The above calculations for whiff are assuming you are just repeatedly chaining Upper Slash without delay. If you delay an input to catch your opponent’s push block and they happen to push block right before your next attack comes out, you will be at a greater disadvantage (-14 or -24, respectively). In other words, if your opponent can perfectly time their push block with your input, they can potentially make the string more punishable, though this is practically impossible. If you’re just mashing the string, pushing at the H is prudent. Pushing the S will make it somewhere between difficult and impossible to punish the string.

Take that for what you will. Definitely not a 100% safe tactic to employ, but it has its applications.

not luck, timing. most likely unhuman timing to the point where you can say its luck based on execution. if you take a dummy and record vergil doing high time>dimension slash>repeat xN it will always succeed in that area they did it.

So what do you guys do after your High Times besides a Dimension Slash? Teleport down and go for an air throw seems really obvious and already people are catching on. Any other tricks?

Well first day playing Vergil. Haven’t practiced much, got invited to a fight pretty soon, but he’s a lootttt of fun. He is so stylish, the things he can combo into with his swords is insane. He’s very unsafe but its not to bad if canceled properly. Im using a ton of meter though, need to get better mixups.

Also man…Dante + Vergil work together super well lol, both my favorite characters. Dante supers in the corner > DHC Swords…> Full combo with Vergil is sexyyy

Yea. Sparda brothers synergy is amazing so far but I’m having trouble settling on a third.

hey guise i think ima hop on the vergil train and ride it like a porn star. he goes well with wesker/doom team (he can back up doom really good) so im recuiting him in.
