Marvel’s Dark Reign Arrives At IGN
With Secret Invasion almost over, Marvel’s universe is about to get darker. Where can you find out more? IGN’s Dark Reign mini-site.
November 17, 2008 - Over the past several years, IGN has brought its comic book fans a number of high profile exclusives and features, from interviews with the biggest names in the industry to first looks at some major books. With Marvel’s Dark Reign on the horizon, we thought we’d step up our game once again. Tomorrow we’ll be launching a first for the comics channel - a mini-site dedicated to Marvel’s post-Invasion storylines.
That sounds fancy, but what does it mean for you? It means that over the next couple weeks, we’ll be teasing the hell out of Marvel’s mysterious Dark Avengers, revealing exclusive art from the titles we get ahold of and bringing you pre-Reign interviews with some of the key writers involved.
But December 3 is the date you need to keep in mind.
What’s so special about December 3? Two things, to be specific. First, that’s the day Secret Invasion #8 hits store shelves. Given that its the hottest book in the industry right now, we suspect a number of you definitely have an eye on that date. The second reason is because that’s the day IGN will be lifting the curtain on all the embargoed solicit information regarding Dark Reign. For the past couple months, Marvel has held back on covers and text regarding its Avengers franchise to avoid spoiling the outcome of Invasion #8. Come December 3, IGN will debut everything possible, from Dark Avengers to New Avengers… Initiative, Mighty, Invincible Iron Man… you name it, we’ll have it.
And that’s not all. Expect interviews, exclusive previews for hot titles like the Brian Bendis/Alex Maleev Secret Invasion: Dark Reign one-shot and much, much more.
Like we said… we’re stepping up our game. Again.
But we don’t just want to yap on and on without giving you something. Let’s reveal a few covers that will be going up with Marvel’s February solicits tomorrow morning. See above for some of them, including the first cover for the Black Panther relaunch and the new War Machine series. Below you’ll find the first art for the second Agents of Atlas mini-series, written by Jeff Parker and pencilled by Carlo Pagulayan. The cover, which you’ll see above, is by Art Adams.
What else can we tell you about Agents of Atlas? We decided to let Pagulayan have the spotlight for a bit. Though he couldn’t say much, he was pretty excited about the mini-series and sent this along: “All I can tell you at the moment is that I’ve read the mini-series recently and felt that these heroes are the type of guys that would be cool to hang out with. So working on this book feels a lot different than the other books in a way that you tend to start caring for each character… and I am crediting Jeff for writing it that way.”
Stay tuned to IGN for the latest on Dark Reign, particularly tomorrow as we reveal Mike Deodato Jr.'s cover to Dark Avengers #1. There’s plenty more coming that we haven’t detailed here, so you’ll have to keep checking back to see what else is on the way.
