DARK AWAKE aka CHAOS BREAKER, on SALE on Jap PSN NOW!! (ReadTheFirstPost)GARAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah you have to hold Troll’s Headbutt for 4+ seconds to get the Hyper Armor version, anything earlier will just give you multiple hits and different properties(level 1[2s] has wallbounce, level 2[3s] has the ability to be cancelled into super but loses wallbounce, and levels 3 and 4 [4s and 5s, respectively] are the ones with the armor and can be cancelled into super as well).

I play both of these characters for the most part, and switch around a 3rd. It’s very true though, my whole Troll game is keeping people right outside 180 throw range to club them. I’m actually finding it hard to land any 180 grabs outside of combo. Holding down D is a bad habit, and will get you thrown non stop. Relying on it for an anti air is iffy too, as you may absorb something and not get a knock down, or worse wind up complety on the other side of your opponent in the corner. I think it’s most useful to dash in with a held down D and mix it up. Once you get on top of him, just like G II, they get seriously stomped on without any meter. I wish more people were online with this game in cali.

I think I missed the answer to this, but why are the sprites for Ramda and Sandra so drastically different from the arcade game?

It’s in the first post, just hold Select when you choose them for their arcade sprites.
No clue why they redid the sprites though, the answer to that remains a mystery.

Maybe the new sprites are actually their original sprites during development. Then, before release, they got an anime-powerup.

2nd time i hear that theory now, and it makes sense.

about gerhardsen: i see people at TRF spam the shit out of j.D with him, looks really annoying (and hard to counter?) good thing nobody plays him here (…yet).
gonna meet up with a friend today to test out stuff and record a few scrubby matches.

evettas 5D can be crouched by zon, dorgan and vargan. pretty silly.

matchup related stuff (take that with a grain of salt, it’s not like we understand all matchups perfectly yet):

  • vritra’s 5B and especially j.B seem to be good pokes, especially against chars like cursehead -5B is unsafe on block, but seems somewhat safe on max range against a couple of characters.
  • vritra’s 236D goes through a lot of stuff, for example elion’s rush-super (you end up behind him)

zon vs troll:

  • zon has a hard time punishing charged D at higher levels since his 5B and 2B won’t connect - didn’t try all the options yet though, anybody has a decent way to punish? only easy option seems to be 236236A-C.
feels like a hard matchup for various reasons. troll can start his throw / attack okizeme (and general zoning) outside of zon’s 5A range (5b has terrible range, too, not a lot of options there). trolls headbutt is really useful in this matchup as well. however, the matchup could easily be in favour of zon when you master his zoning. can’t say yet for sure.

bernhard vs troll:

  • max range 214 hold[A-C] is really annoying for troll to deal with, if you have the chance to use it.
  • 6A is your friend up close, but i guess that holds true for almost all matchups.
  • it’s easier to hit troll with j.B than other characters for obvious reasons. good to know since j.B leads to nice combos close to corner.
  • teleporting into troll is not a good idea (except for j.421D to bait), since 2C beats all of them if you screw around after air normals and so on.
  • 5B (or preventive j.B) is your anti-air of choice if you can react fast enough.
  • you can cross troll up with j.A (probably not that useful, but funny)

bernhard vs cursehead:
seems like a hard matchup if you don’t abuse your aura super (and i’m sure there are ways to counter that). bernhard lacks a real reversal, so it’s ugly if you get caught by cursehead up close.

Zon has more than a decent fireball game. He also has some sick rushdown and a crazy instant j.B as overhead, that’s safe via teleport.

yeah, he has a lot of tools, definitely one of my favourite chars so far. i like to put him in last so he has as many supers as possible since 236236A/C is great as anti-air / punishment / hit confrim from any projectile.
favourite corner combos so far:
j.C,C,214C, 236236A-C super cancel, air throw
5D, link 214214D, link meaty 632146D.

Also, don’t use j.B with Bernhard outside of air-to-air. All of his loops against grounded opponents that can be done with j.B can also be done with j.C, and for less meter/more damage. j.B air-to-air is too good though.

Bernhard vs Cursehead is pretty challenging if Cursehead has meter and you don’t, but using 6B > 214D to run away is a good tactic, which you can mix up with 6B > 632146C which will catch any attempts to just dash through your pokes. If you are in the corner, all I can say is jump. You’ll take less damage from 2A/5A and even 5D ticks keeping you grounded than you will from taking command throws. You shouldn’t be letting Cursehead get you to the corner so easily anyways. Especially with all of Bernhard’s zoning tools.

Also, can someone confirm if Vritra 2D + Nagar Assist (end fireball portion) is unblockable? In the corner is the place to try it, obviously. I have been wrecking shop with it in the few times I have tried it, and am wondering if it is just lack of knowledge and bad blocking on my opponents end (Mara 2C + Evetta Assist “unblockables, looool.”)
My team has been Nsidor/Vritra/Bernhard for a while, and Bernhard’s assist has created amazing opportunities to land Vritra’s infinite much easier, but I am wondering if there is actually a surefire way to start it up for the cost of a bar? If so, that’s pretty messed up.

you can actually guard cancel into vritras infinite close to the corner. pretty sick.

Oh believe me I know, you can do it with Nsidor’s too, and you can do Bernhard’s corner loops in the corner if you are close enough.
I try to make it a habit if I have the meter and the spacing is right haha.
Mana Counters are so amazing for some characters, I’m glad they cost a bar of meter, else they would be way too good.

But yeah, I was hoping to just have a surefire offensive way to land it, in the event that I get a knockdown.
Bernhard’s assist is still a pretty amazing 50/50 with Vritra’s dash up 2D and dash up 66D overhead, though. As long as the final hit connects, it puts the opponent in a juggle state, so you have 2-3 tries to hit a high or low, and Vritra’s instant j.66D is so damn fast you absolutely cannot react to it.

EDIT: Also, Nsidor’s loops are just too damn good. I had been meaning to post it up a couple of weeks ago when I stumbled across it, but he has a fireball infinite in the corner.
It’s just 2C > B Fireball > [2C > A Fireball]xN
The timing is basically that you cancel the 2C into 421B, then for the following loop, you need to wait until the 2C arcs up completely, and then you basically ‘link’ the 421A afterwards, wait until the 2nd hit of the fireball and as soon as it hits, connect 2C, and repeat. It takes a little practice to get the timing but after you find it, you should get it really consistently.

I’ve still yet to get the game when I get the chance. So setting the game mode to Tournament lets ya have whatever combination (1 char 3 item, 2 char 2 item, or 3 char 1 item)? If that is so, that is great to hear.

No, we’re all pretty positive that isn’t a feature in the port, sadly.
But Tournament mode should allow you to change the order of your team post-match.
So say you start the match and your first character dies, you can switch who goes next instead of going by the order you chose after the character select screen.
Sort of like CFJ I guess.

Ah man, that sucks. Oh well, I’ll still get this awesome game anyway. Thanks for the clarification.

is that the one from the combo dvd? some nsidor did it in a TRF match a while ago, you can see it from time to time in the corner when they transition from the other infinite into it.

Probably, I think the combo dvd just has the full course infinite, consisting of A intercept > back attack loops, back attack > back attack loops, back attack > Army Dash D, and the corner fireball loop. This is just the end singled out and looped in the event you land a 2C in the corner. I just recalled SAMURAI talking about his corner bread and butter and was going to post about extending it to that, and totally forgot. And I know that Tohchika does it a lot, but he probably has the best Nsidor in the world, maybe behind 50’s.

I usually find cool new tidbits about this game and just overall solid play from this channel
YouTube - sasakivritra’s Channel

awesome link, thx. i was surprised that people don’t seem to upload single combo clips to nico, the only uploaders seem to be TRF and one or two other small arcades.

Yeah if I had proper recording equipment, I would upload some combos such as the DVD combos and some nice oki setups. I’ll have to get my girlfriend to let me use some of her cam equipment haha

Hey got the game yesterday. I tried playing online and it was horrible. Does anyone here live in the So Cal area? If so add me if you’d like hopefully It’ll run smoother.
