You beat me to it on the #114 review. Next time Gadget, next time! >;0
He didn’t have white boots in Garth Ennis’s most recent run did he?
Do you mean the recent Welcome Back, Frank sequel with Steve Dillon? I actually haven’t read that yet… Been waiting for the TRADE, BABY.
Check this out… http://www.comicsreporter.com/index.php/midnight_snack013009/
Tom Spurgeon gives Daredevil a nice write-up and some respect. I still have to go the store this week to pick up the latest issue.
I don’t know what I mean…whatever run that went on for 60 issues?
Word, Tom Spurgeon, word.
#115 Review / <Spoilers>
First let me say what a gorgeous cover, as if all the other covers by Djurdjevic weren’t completely beautiful, this one was just really exciting. For the longest time after this cover was spoiled I was really expecting an actualy Bullseye appearance. But, whatever that doesn’t stop this issue from being an excellent conclusion to the Lady Bullseye arc. Props to my man Lark for all of the sexy fight scenes as brief as they were, and to Brubaker for consistently keeping DD as compelling as the title is without falling victim to the static boredom of typical mainstream super-hero books. I didn’t actually think that Brubaker would go ahead and use the Donovan’s lawyer as Lady Bullseye since it was too obvious, but I guess that’s what made it cool because it was right under Matt’s nose and he never truly caught it. I gotta say I totally didn’t see the finale coming up until a few issues before the reveal when Lady Bullseye states the Hand will be great again. Despite enjoying Milla’s character, given her current state with the legal battle of her parents and Matt…I almost want to see it work between Dakota and Matt. This review is too long again. I can’t wait for ‘Return of the King’ to start. Murdock and Fisk, allies?! OH SNAP! ;0
That sounds like Punisher MAX. No, Frank didn’t have the white boots and gloves in that one.
Yeah, I’d love to read it. I’ve never read much of Ennis’ work, but I know he’s fucking brilliant. All that, and those Tim Bradstreet covers. <3
Yeah, you should check it out. That’s one of my other favorite Marvel runs. I’m pretty sure you would like it, too, based on the other comics I know you enjoy.

well 116 was fantastic
cannot wait till 117
do yourself a favour if you dont read daredevil, read it
YES the panel with uncle wheelie holding the tiny umbrella in the rain made me crack
Yes indeed 116 is too freaking good, a testament to Brubaker’s epic writing skills.
I haven’t gotten to #117 yet, but #116 was an excellent prelude to the ‘Return of the King’ arc. I’m finished with the reviews considering the fact that I never got any sort of response, other than gratuitous Brubaker ego stroking, from anyone save for Zephyranthes. However, I would like to note that the one-page splash with Wilson’s profile/silhouette filled with DD, Bullseye and Spidey was fucking amazing. Mmm, the combination of DD’s radar and Spidey’s web with Bullseye hidden in DD’s shadow…just fucking epic. Go, go David Aja! You win sir.
Anyone plan on reading the new Elektra mini-series? I picked up both covers, haven’t touched read them yet either.
I haven’t had a chance to pick up #117 yet, either. #116 was really well done. It’s tough to do a story where the ending is obvious to the point where the it is actually spoiled at the beginning of the comic, but they pull it off. Brubaker does a great job building up to the ending and getting the reader into Fisk’s head. The pacing was impeccable, and I honestly found myself hoping that Fisk wouldn’t end up where we knew he would end up.
It kind of reminds me of the Miller/Sienkiewicz Love and War graphic novel and how they kind of show you how the whole mobster life affects the guy calling all the shots, the guy you’d think would be impervious to any sort of sentimentality or humanity. But #116, like Love and War, approaches that subject with this sort of hard-boiled fatalism that doesn’t really come off as emotionally manipulative to me. It’s more matter-of-fact than anything else, and I think that’s why it’s just tragic.
I also find it interesting how Daredevil and Kingpin are completely bound by this cycle of violence that neither of them can escape. Daredevil’s life has been tragedy after tragedy after tragedy, and Kingpin hasn’t been immune to it.
I wonder if Return of the King is Brubaker’s last storyline. Marvel’s already announced Andy Diggle as the next writer of the series, so it sounds like Brubaker must be close to wrapping up. This is shaping up to be quite the swan song. I can only hope Diggle brings Jock with him, or at least gets someone like Aja or Paul Azaceta to work with. If he gets Tom friggin’ Raney, I quit DD!
Relax on the essay

That post just made me love you as much as one man can without it being considered full-blown homosexuality.
I’ve always thought Love and War was a little too short, like it ended too quickly but yes I did notice some of the similarities. In fact, I have to say that cycle of violence has to be my favorite aspect of the DD/Fisk story. It’s not like Spidey/Goblin or Batman/Joker…it goes deeper than that because, there have been many occasions where DD is powerless to do anything and Fisk is in a truly untouchable position.
I hadn’t heard about Diggle, it seems like I was reading ‘Devil in Cell Block D’ yesterday. However, I feel strangely satisfied and I don’t mind if it is his last story line. I can’t really explain it, but Diggle is all right by me. I haven’t read much of his stuff…his Swamp Thing sucked, but I like his Green Arrow Year One. Also, he’s been doing a great job on Thunderbolts, I don’t know who designed the new team but they’re awesome.
Now I’m going to go look up this Tom Raney, if he’d make you drop DD he must be sucking in a pretty epic way.

Brubaker interview, confirming him leaving after DD #500/Return of the King, he’s not leaving Captain America any time soon, and confirming Andy Diggle and Chris Bachelo as the new creative team
