Dan Improvement Thread!

It seems further with Dan. I used to main Able and punishing full-screen fire-balls was par for the course and I never hit anyone from as far away as Dan. SRKs seem to hit him from an obnoxious distance too.

Honestly I would leave Dan the way he is, any tampering would tarnish funny shedanigans, xD. 7 Minute Saikyo!

Yeah, dan’s way easier to punish on-reaction with ultras than other characters. He has a bigger hitbox and more recovery.

Someone like Guile, however, is extremely difficult to punish because he has very little of either on his sonic boom.

Most of the changes I want are so subtle someone that doesn’t play him (or against him) often wouldn’t even notice. I don’t want major changes, just some tweaks here and there.

I used Ryu last night just for the hell of it, he wasn’t really fun being so ponderously slow with his dashes but Jesus Christ his normals are lightning quick. Makes me think that speeding up Dan’s normals just a bit would be the biggest improvement you could make to him.

The problem is, at the moment Dan doesn’t play much like a shoto. If you just give him minor buffs and no major changes, he becomes alot more like a shoto, to the point where casuals may even accuse Dan players of being shotos. For Dan to be a respectable character and not play a shoto, something major has to give here. Autographs, rolling taunts, super building from taunts, whatever. But something has to change from his moveset.

let me combo c.lk c.lp c.mk rh tatsu and I will be happy.

Make his jumping LK danku hit crouching characters, even if its crouch-blockable I just don’t want it to whiff anymore.

Him playing like a shoto is the last thing I want really. I don’t think speeding him up will have that result, it might make it easier to misuse him as a shoto but that won’t get the most of what he has to offer.

The two things I would like added are a EX taunt with 2 levels of super armor that you do by pressing all six buttons, and a taunt throw.

I like Dan! I would suggest give him more options with it comes to linking his combos with jab start up.

Give his fireball a bit more range and faster start up/recovery time

Give him some better and faster normals IE his Cr. HP is so slow and not worth a anti air

Gives his SRK a bit more range.

Simple things to balance him out a bit more.

Given [media=youtube]gjL-aenqw4s"[/media] I think he should play up his snk roots and have a technical purpose for taunts rather than just tactical mind games. This will keep him from playing like Ken and Ryu.

  1. IIRC His Alpha debut had stronger normals than Ryu. The HP and HK did more dmg and meaty but otherwise poor properties. I think that should return with his HP & HK normals doing 10 more dmg than either OG shoto equivalent. It took more skill to effectively use his normals but the payoff was worth it in Dmg.

  2. I would not want Full screen FBs for Dan, but his Gadoken frames (on hit or block) are pretty solid. So, if FB gets a buff, extended reach seems in order.
    Gadouken ranges: lp=1/5 mp=1/4 hp=1/3 ex=1/2 of screen
    dmg:70 exdmg:60+50 is a keeper

I like the idea of :hcb:+:p: being an alt FB but think the Premium Sign doesn’t fit SF series like it did in MvC series as a projectile or shield.
So here’s the 2 hand FB parody.
Gadou Shoukouken ranges: lp=1/4 mp=1/3 hp=1/2 ex=3/5 of screen
dmg:50+50 exdmg:70+60
similar with +dmg and +range buff for slow startup.
Dan covers up then releases 2-h FB; looks like Sakura’s Big FB and his FA with 2hits.
+10 frames more startup than his Gadouken’s stratup (like Akuma’s Red FB)
+5 frames more recovery than his Gadouken’s recovery (what ever it is)
ex version recovers 3 frames faster than lp version (think safe like ken’s Ex.FB safe)

  1. Taunting should be integral to Dan’s victory but currently, beyond canceling the super taunt into ultra, has no technical advantage. Giving him a command roll taunt or even a rekka-taunt with evasive and super building capabilities could reward the user for taunting without being overpowered.

2nd roll into st.taunt. roll is evasive while taunt builds greater super meter.
3rd demon flips into j.taunt and lands with :tup: taunt. flip is evasive while taunts builds greater super meter then drains some of foe’s super meter when he lands!
Ex version does not build super meter but drains considerably more of foes super meter when he lands.

The only concern is if, while it does no stamina dmg, it steps on Abel’s toes. Abel is likely to get a buff anyway though.

hmm… would canceling out between a roll and its taunt (with normals or just dash, specials, super, ultras) with no super meter gain or lose be OP? I think it could but not sure. That would step on Abel’s toes if not Elf too.

Please no fullscreen Gado. If anything decrease his hit-able-hit-box (think I said that already in this thread) and increase the hitbox a tad to make it better against jump-ins.

who asked for full screen gado :confused: you want to use it against jump-ins? like Gouken’s hp hado?

More distance has been mentioned in this thread and others. I already use it against jump ins now that would be just out of distance for a Koryuken. Making the Gado a better anti-air option would further distance Dan from the legitimate Shotos…

Dan’s ultra needs to go through focus attacks. If he ultras (mostly on Gouken) he will eat a level 3 focus, which is bullshit. I’m thinking maybe give EX dankuu some fireball priority. Don’t give him real fireballs… He’s not supposed to be great, but the storyline said it best,

“At the last minute a fighter named Dan Hibiki managed to squeak by with just enough points to qualify.” Meaning, Dan kicked some ass.

Not really. In one of the Sakura mangas [not the UDON Sakura mini] Dan is actually pretty competant. In one issue Dan is fighting in a tournament and makes it to the finals only to lose to Ken. So Capcom buffing him up to C or D tier for the next installment wouldn’t be that outrageous.
