Daigo vs Jwong

Actually, Pyro goes to Japan quite a bit from what I’ve heard.

Remember, Justin’s wins dont count as they’re mongolian tournaments! :bluu:

pyro comes off as being really arrogant saying things like that. i dunno, imo a true champion never backs down from any challenge, , hell even the top japanese players, despite all the bitching ive heard from that setup, entered evo.

i hope other top players dont have your mentality pyro, you really sound like you’re “too good” for everyone else and that other tourneys outside ffa dont count, cause they’re “mongolian” tournaments. that’s a straight up diss to everyone that plays 3s competively outside of ffa. Anyway, hopefully you guys will attend another major outside of cali in the coming months to set aside all this bs.

i do agree with this though, screw all the statistic counting fanboys that never show up to tourneys to prove their -own- worth.

ouch:bluu:

In any case the rest of that is really what I was trying to say. I also want to say that I believe Justin is the best TOURNAMENT player who has ever lived, no one rises to the occasion like him, no one tries harder from loser’s, he is a true champ, even though I’ve been somewhat of a hater throughout his long reign, I have come to this realization.

I agree like Mike was to basketball Justin is to mvc2/fighting games.

You might not like him or his stlye but come turny time you won’t beat it either…So weather you love, hatem or don’t care you gotta respect him. Thats why that whole evo thing is so big Justins good everyone knows it…Might not accept it but they know. So when they saw him gettin beasted by dagio, another top teir player, Or soo then its like the greatest thing ever…Why? You just don’t see it that often…its like seeing mike get shook or shaq gettin dunked on, or kobe missin every 3 pointer.

In boxing if you beat all of the contenders but never the champion, does that make you the best?

Ok I challenge you to play on a mas stick with no joystick attached and only the jab button working properly, c’mon champ.

The japanese flew a very long way for what they thought was going to be better than last year’s tournament.

If you flew a few thousand miles for a specific event, even if it wasn’t all you expected, wouldn’t you at least enter it?

Ex. A guy drives 100 miles to see a movie, gets there, and someone walking out that just saw it says “damn that movie sucked!”. Do you think the guy would just turn around and drive home then? C’mon now.

Most FFA people feel this way, Im the first to say it.

The other tournaments outside FFA do count, you just can’t say who is the best nationally in 3s from them, because the best player(s) don’t enter them. In other words, ECC9 MWC etc, proved that Justin was the best out of those tournaments, not who the best player in the states were. To prove that, you need the top players to face off and the winner becomes the best. This is what happened at World Championships of 3s.

Why is this still going? Justin already said I’m one tourney up on him, meaning he has to beat me now. If someone beats the champ, don’t they become the champ? I’ll leave it at that.

I don’t have a lot of time since I need to run to work twenty minutes ago, but:

Look. Most of us here at FFA don’t think it’s worth spending hundreds of dollars to travel around the USA for competition that would, at best, be equal to us. The handful of USA top tier (Hsien, Wong, etc) are the only ones on level with FFA, and it’s much more worthwhile for us to save our money up and go to Japan, where we’re at Japanese upper-mid tier and the top tier still rapes us twelve ways to Sunday- and we learn more shit.

Basically, it’s not worth going to other tournaments since we’re not trying to prove anything. (Whether we need to prove it or not is what the rest of you guys are yakking about. Pyro shouldn’t even need to talk in this thread.)

(Okay, so Pyro has a big head. But if you wanna pop it, it’s still your prerogative to come over here. I don’t care either which way, because if Pyro loses, we get to make him buy us dinner for the next week straight.)

End of story.

So winning a major like ECC9 wouldn’t have paid for your trip + some? Not only will you come back a winner, but you get to silence all your critics. Thus, you wouldn’t be wasting time with this kinda flamewar shit.

Circular logic; your claim to being champion is disputed at best, or else this wouldn’t still be going on. Speaking of which…how is this debate still going on?

You can’t say you’re the best nationally by not even entering them though. If Justin simply chose never to play another person in MvC2 again, should he still be considered the best MvC2 player in the world a year from now, 2 years from now? Lets say Soo kept winning tournies out west, but never travelled, would he then suddenly default to #1? Depending on how you answer this I think everyone will understand your viewpoint, because that seems to be whats going on here.

I think SRK ate that post…cuz I remember it not being there when I checked again. Also I’m pretty sure he said you’re one up, but he isn’t ready to concede that you’re better from just one win. He also cited bad sticks, so if you’re using the argument that Evo had problems so it shouldn’t count, your tourney win over Justin should equally be discounted.

It’s not worth Justin’s time to travel around everywhere and win basically everything he enters, but he still does it. As a result he gets props for it. Why should Justin bother travelling for MvC2 when thats not even a question?

Yeah its good to go to Japan, but if you really want to brag I’d think you guys would travel around the US too, and you’d be able to raise the level of play by showing what you’re capable of.

Also, Japan travels here, and has been travelling here for the past few years when they’re better than us. That shouldn’t be a reason for refusing. I feel you on the money issue though, I’m not made of the greens either.

Not really. Hey, if this drums up interest in 3s and gets everyone to travel and play I guess thats cool. But I doubt anybody really feels they need to go beat Pyro as opposed to Pyro travelling and beating people in order to justify him talking. I don’t really care either way, I kinda like reading Pyro’s posts. In the end, I’m not Justin so it doesn’t matter to me if Pyro or Justin is better. Basically all you’re going to get by posting here is fanboys siding and arguing, and then people like me who stay neutral and just don’t bother really picking a side. I do admit though, I’d be rooting for Justin in the matchup since he’s NYC/EC etc.

The premise that I was the champion in the boxing example is irrelevant. It was only a synonymous example of arguments that the majority of SRK posters were using. AKA “Justin wins all these tournaments so he’s the best; even though you beat him or have more skill it doesn’t matter.”

If you want to take another example from an opposite view and say Justin was the champion, whom I defeated that will work as well. Ex. Mike Tyson (Justin) was the champ; then got knocked out. New guy is the champ (me).

Why can I not? Not every “champion” enters every tournament. The rest of the tournaments in the USA, where the champion/contender do not play each other, should be viewed as bouts or events, and not as the tournament that decides the best player.

Justin is #1 in MvC2 because no one can defeat him; his title will hold true until he retires or is defeated, much like in boxing. It would be interesting to see the debate that would arise if he was defeated, and if he would still be considered #1, oh wait this is the debate right here, but for 3s.
**

Top players must play each other to show who is #1.

I doubt it.

Well, a lot of former “champs” hold contempt for their previous losses to a contender.

Lets not make thin connections please. Evo first of all allowed outside sticks and equipment; not to mention using the PS2 version of 3s for a few of its matches (something that hasn’t even been tested yet). With all these untested variables now coming together all at one time, to work together in harmony, who knows what kind of problems they would have encountered (and did).

World Championships of 3s on the other hand was all arcade with a technician on hand in case the sticks failed. Justin had the opportunity to switch sides and stop the match incase something happened. He never said anything bad about the cabinet he played against me on, up until his post on the SRK board.

I also played on the cabinet he was on during previous matches and noted that it was fine IMO.

We did talk about the sticks and we did agree that the american to linked japanese cabinet had a problem with one of the diagonals. In fact my match vs sugiyama was stopped during the first game because I was having a problem with the diagonal. The technician looked at the problem and fixed it.

And as a side note, from watching my match vs justin, I doubt any stick malfunction, due to Justin’s 100% hit confirmation into super and accuracy of his play. This is only my opinion on the sticks at FFA I cannot read justin’s mind or know the type of hand movement/style he uses which may have contributed to his belief the sticks sucked.

Possibly in the future.

One of the big reasons Japan likes to come to the USA is because of the prize pot. In japan I believe it’s illegal to throw tournaments with a cash pot, or at least difficult to get the authorization. Also japanese think the USA is cool

Who with skill is there left for me to beat in the USA?

Thanks for giving a legitimate view, and not just an ignorant post.

I’m not the one who told Japan on stage "We’re going to show you what the fuck we got!

huh?

Lot of shit talkin’ in this thread for no reason.

Somebody call an ambulence.

Tell the EMT’s to bring an oxygen mask. Somebody can’t handle their smoke. Or at least that’s what it looked like.

Hahaha, fucking pussy.

I honestly have never heard of Daigo before this point mainly because I stick to Marvel. Like someone said at the very beginning of this thread, even if you don’t like fighting games, this one was a must see. I played it for a little while then gave up on it, but seeing that kind of made me want to start playing again. I can’t be the only one who feels that way. Is it me or does anyone else hear supporters of Justin in the background as Justin starts up Chun-Li’s special only for them to be drowned out by the crowd as Daigo parries every single kick. Fucking incredible. Did I mention I don’t even play this game?

I am the only one left in America who u havent beat!!!

Owned.

I’d love to play some of you guys, I’d like a challange for a change, but seeing as I live in Ireland that ain’t gonna happen to soon…Best Ryu player at home, yep I am.

Also that vid was class, Daigo really went to town on the parrying.

"They said frank’s ryu is possibly the strongest, even in Japan"
watabout georgia?did the jap say that frankie is better than georgia?

but think of it this way: say pete sampras goes to all the major tournaments e.g. wimbeldon, US Open, etc. etc. and wins them all or does very well. And then one day Bob plays him in some game somewhere or other is it really fair for Bob to say he’s the best?

Nevermind your own situation, would you say that Bob is the greatest tennis player in the world? If in his own mind Bob wants to think he’s the greatest or whatever, thats fine–more power to him (or less depending on how you look at it), but why should he expect the public to believe so? What right to claim the title of best does he have? If he cant go to some of these huge tournaments and do it the right way–in front of the world’s eyes, then his claim comes off as being stupid and arrogant.

OMG this is the worst example yet…

I was at EVO, I was at the WC of 3s held at Family Fun too

Ppl who hasnt been to FFA and play those 3s heads should really STFU.
