I agree booing is too far, but shit, alot of 2d players were booing ALL of the 3d games. That showed no class at all on the 2d players part. I enjoy both, but to see the lack of respect was pretty crappy. ALOT of the $$$ for EVO came from the 3d games. You didn’t see the 3d players booing to 2d games. I think it’s embarassing how so many people acted.
Dunno, really. Do you get booed at East Coast tournaments? Of course local crowds are hostile to outsiders.
Lot of history of crowds at fighting game tournaments not acting so well. Ricky Ortiz at ECC6 comes to mind. Plenty of other examples, no real need to get into them all.
Also why bother reading message boards for everyone’s opinion? Five people can represent a majority opinion. It’s not even an opinion you really have to stand behind, because no one can get in your face.
Funny how Justin posts on here and the whole direction of this thread changes. Where are all the haterz now? Nobody ever walks up to him and says “damn Soo owned your ass” or “damn you should have done this instead of what you did.” Its like a celebrity where people say “damn that motha fucka sucks.” But they see him in public and say “damn you tha man. im your biggest fan.”

And I agree with Cell. It IS funny, how as soon as Jwong posts, people are like “Damn Jwong, you still the man!” when only a post earlier they were like “Oh, SHIIT! Jwong got pwned!” Kinda double faced, don’t cha think? If anything, it’s more like sympathy towards the loser of the match. Something along the lines of “Hey man, I still respect you (Heh, you still got your ass owned tho)!”
I’m not hating on Jwong or anything, but to the people who were saying one thing one moment, then kissing ass by saying the complete opposite another, stop bandwagoning. A simple “Sorry for the shit-talking” would suffice. Not buttering up.
And if you lost, you lost. Don’t try to buffer it with “Well, damn. I won this and that, though.” No matter how many times you win, the losses are STILL going to be there. Don’t try to save face by trying to bringing up your victories. As the guy that people are “aiming” to beat, when ownage like this happens with the person losing, people are going to be ALL over it. It’s like the media. When something bad happens, it’ll be the center of everything. Notice nothing like that happens, when something good happens. And besides, that was quite monumental. You’ve got THE SF name, THE SF game, and THE biggest comeback I’ve ever seen happen all at once. Save for Justins comebacks in MVC2, I’ve never seen anything so fast ever.
Anyways, my two cents towards the hater, Jwong and losses.

Not really… both statements are true. He IS the man, undisputed MvC2 champ and placing high in other games. But he also got his ass owned HARD by Daigo. Priceless!

It’s just the general public and how they perceive entertainment really Mr. Wong. As much as you think it is that people like to see you lose, it’s simply this odd form of entertainment that’s become acceptable over the past few years (thanks to the likes of reality television).
That may sound a bit far fetched, but I think it makes sense. To the general public, winning just isn’t entertaining, especially in the light of your accomplisments. Sticking around to see your losses is just the negativity that somehow manages to become a positive to those that are just watching on the side lines and tagging along.
Who cares though. Shit happens.

Daigo and Justin were all over the boards in this year’s Evo, that’s all I gotta say. Two great players… so of course if the two of them face it’s gonna be some badass stuff. With Daigo, what else is there to say? It takes huge balls to do something like that when the pressure is that heavy. Yeah sure people do that casually in an arcade every now and then, but in a tourney scene when everyone’s watching… big balls. Yipes.
And Justin, don’t worry about the sympathy, the win, or the loss. What makes you and a lot of the other people who go to Evo great is not the winning, but the will to win and become better. You played a great match in 3s and I’m sure you played great in a lot of other games to place so high. And I want you to practice your ass off in the off-season so you can kick more ass next year. Rematch, dag nabbit! Hi-calibre matchups like these are pure gold.
