Daigo vs Justin videos disappearing for copyright by Mr. Wizard

OP’s original post complained that videos on his channel were taken down by Triple Perfect and that may have ended his YT partnership.

Now the OP is changing the initial post to save his ass.

I count 17 IP violations in this thread.

Instead of expecting the OP to be a copyright lawyer maybe just explain it to him and then move on instead of acting like he was trying to do something malicious and taking a giant shit on him.

The entirety of IP is in a giant clusterfuck and you shouldn’t expect everyone to subscribe to your narrow interpretation of it especially when @Wil is violating capcom’s copyright, @Bulldancer violating Wizards of the coasts IP, @The Furious one is that Marco polo or Badlands?

Pretty soon you’re not going to be able to wear clothing in a vid because you’re using the clothing manufacturers IP, and do it outside because that shade of paint on the wall is IP, oh no you’re phone rang Samsungs IP, go outside and do it buck naked, Golden Gate bridge in the back ground that’s SF’s IP.

Everyone of you is violating IP, so lighten up.

C’mon, be less crazy. He wasn’t being malicious, but he also wasn’t thinking ahead and got a Stop Doing Something YouTube Tells You Not To Do And Has Something In Place To Stop You Doing. The only interpretation of relevance here, the only question on hand is how YouTube works. This is how it works. This isn’t rocket science.

  • Only put up your own content
  • If you really have to put up someone else’s content, check with them first

TA-DA!

As someone who both works with streamers (offcast, spooky) and produces tournament videos myself I can say that ripping someone else’s stream and then monetizing it on YouTube is a dick move.

See, its right there. :skull:

Sure, I’ll play you first to five in video copyright on YouTube. That game is tight.

Thread of the year.

Again, that’s not the point. The other uploaders have regular accounts, yet they still had their videos removed for copyright. You can check this by yourself by looking at the attribution tag of a video page in its HTML.

I understand that talking shit about the OP and flaming is fun, but can we maybe get back on topic?

I know this won’t happen, but it would be pretty sad to see the Daigo vs Justin video by foolished, which has been recently used to assign Daigo a Guinness World Record, also disappear for some copyright reason. I mean it has the potential to happen at this point.

What does it matter if they had a “regular account”? Fact of the matter is uploading content that does not belong to you is grounds for a copyright strike no matter how you look at it. Daigo vs Justin was EVO footage owned by EVO staff. This isn’t a topic that’s up for debate, they have every right to claim that video. You are not excused from copyright because you’re a “normal person” and not a business or something.

Doesn’t matter. Point is that Evo (or Triple Perfect, which is the company that runs Evo) owns the content and had everyright to have the videos taken down.

What is there to discuss? You (and a bunch of other folks) got caught with videos you had no right to share and they got taken down. Doesn’t matter if it’s moment #37 or some random dudes on stream, if it’s not your stream or your tournament, then don’t rip and post the matches on YouTube.

Wait for real?

Are you saying that most of the tournament footage that can be found on YouTube, should not exist? That people who actively archive this kind of stuff with “no rights” for everyone to watch, HEROES such as TheShend, XusesGB, The Beast, USF4 RBK etc. should stop doing what they do because “amg it’s not their streams” and just let twitch VODs get self-destroyed after mere weeks?
I personally love that category of channels. I got hooked to fighting games thanks to them and I’m sure a significant chunk of the FGC share this feeling.

SRK front page articles are full of videos coming from these uploaders, and in an indirect way you make money out of them with generated page views through Complex Media Network and DoubleClick ads. “LiangHuBBB Brings Us the 71534365th Installment of the Funny and Cool Moments Series”. So come on dude, you can’t demonize them like that.

Most of these aren’t straight up rips from tournament streams. Stuff like LiangHuBBB, and XusesGB stuff is covered by fair use since they’re considered “transformative” and they’re not just straight up ripping someone’s stream. The latter shit hurts streamers, many who start out relying on their VODs for revenue.

Also, last I checked, all of our tournament replays on Shoryuken’s front page use the official channels of those tournaments, be it the Capcom Fighters channel, Team Spooky, Offcasts, etc.

I always find it really interesting when people do shady things and then expect fairness and justice when they feel they’ve been wronged.

Of course your example about the clothing is possible but unlikely that people would collectively accept that as reasonable. People and probably including the OP knows what he’s doing is questionable if he is indeed using ads on someone else’s content. Can feigned or even genuine ignorance not be a form of maliciousness?

Unrelated but it should be said that Xuses is a total scumbag, not a hero lol

Why do you say that? Granted, I understand the idea that directly taking copyrighted material and uploading it to your channel is fucked up, but a lot of the content that he’s uploaded are VODs that only subscribers can access, which CapcomFighters is notorious for. Other stuff are just match highlights from tournaments which are always nice and stream moments.

I’m sorry, but there is a huge difference between actual content and an avatar.

@Seabass: Does that preclude asking/getting permission? There’s a bunch of awesome stuff I’d love to upload, but I realize I am firmly breaking YouTube policy if I do so without getting permission first.

Back when he posted Marvel videos he took a FT15 he played against SumBrwnKid that he lost and edited it to make it look like a FT7 he won. (I remember SRK actually posted that video lmao)

He posted “tech videos” for teams which was really just basic shit done with suboptimal assists. (He even had one video where he called something “the Xuses” but it was just some baby shit lmao)

Oh and he’s uploaded VoDs that you don’t need sub access for.

Fuck Xuses
