Interesting how Daigo described his playstyle. Its exactly the same thing David Sirlin said about him.

BTW will HD Remix be getting any love on the SB4 DVD? Marvel and SF4 were mentioned but nothing about HDR.

Yeah I thought the finals were actually one of the best of the show. I just loved seeing Daigo adapt to a game he has never played before and also DGV’s ryu made some pretty good comebacks if I can remember correctly, definitely a solid ryu.

And I will say that i don’t consider it “cheap” at all that Justin picked Fei… it wasn’t below the belt or cheating because it was totally within the rules. I can’t think of a good word to describe it, but it definitely was “something.” The people who are saying it’s cheap aren’t completely wrong - they just have to find a better word for it. What it really did was it made any potential victory for Wong completely plummet in value as the cards were stacked wayyyy in his favor. I was rooting hard for Daigo exactly for that reason… A lot of people root for the underdog, and Daigo was definitely the underdog in this fight due to Justin’s use of Fei. So, to me it was a little annoying that so many people were rooting for Wong. If Wong wins, then great, he has a tainted victory over Daigo. However, if Daigo wins, it’s a really special victory against (fei) long odds.

Justin using Fei Long wasn’t “something” bad or cheap. It was within the rules. Daigo was hardly the underdog. He was the champion going into the fight. And was the champion leaving the fight. If Justin won, it wouldn’t have been tainted at all. Fei Long is a valid character, and Daigo would have admitted that he lossed… no excuses.

That is like calling Nadal beating Federer for the first time “cheap” because Nadal plays left-handed.

As people have said, LOCAL/home team sports announcers show bias, but in a more subtle way than those announcers were. And of course national announcers are expected to show no bias whatsoever, which is a big part of their job.

The lesson here is so obvious and I don’t see enough people talking about it… I really think you HAVE to pick a main at the top levels of the game. I mean, Daigo had NEVER played against Fei before at high levels (I mean, it’s possible he had once or twice tops, but not enough to make any real difference)… and he still won going away. Daigo knows Ryu 100% backwards and forwards… knowing your own character 100% is more than half the battle, obviously. Of course Fei is not as strong as Ryu blah blah blah, but it seems like people are really resistant to acknowledging that the Japanese one main style really is superior.

I’ll repeat a question I had asked about the “bias commentators” when someone else mentioned it. Its a yes or no question so you really just have to say yes or no. If you were watching the world cup and it was US vs Mexico, and you were watching it in the USA broadcast in English. Don’t you think the commentators would be rooting for the US team in not so subtle ways? Like if the US scores do you believe the commentators would just stay all calm and not exclaim “GOAL!!!”? It’s pretty much the same thing here, granted you always have the other side, but if you live the US and watching a US vs another country I would say a great percentage of people are rooting for the US. So that would naturally include the commentators. So I’m sure YOU might have been annoyed by people rooting for Justin, but you must have known beforehand that people were gonna root for Justin and that you were in the minority. PLUS they were saying good things about Daigo when he did good shit, not like they were going “against” Daigo, they would mentioned the fact that he was the champ, what a great player he was, how he was adapting beautifully, etc. They just got extra hype when Justin did something which is to be expected. Also I would tend to agree with you about the valueless victory if Justin picking Fei actually stacked the odds in his favor, do you really think that just picking Fei against Daigo was gonna make it free? Like taking candy from a baby? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IF THERE WAS NO MONEY INVOLVED THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR HONOR, THEN I WOULD AGREE WITH YOU. I’m sorry but when money is on the line, the rules are laid out and that is that. You’ve obviously never done anything for money if you think otherwise. Pick your best character, your best counter, your best cheap char, whatever the case is as long as it doesn’t break the rules its fine, THAT’S WHY THEY HAVE RULES, they don’t go by an honor system. There was clearly no rule that stated you had to stick with one character. Also realize that even if YOU think the win is somehow less in value or even valueless, the winner still gets to take home the FULL VALUE of whatever the prize is. So clearly you are wrong if you think that, since the win is literally NOT LESS IN VALUE, wouldn’t you say?
