Can we confirm?
Don’t believe that happened.
Near the end of the match, Justin comboed into his ultra. It was obvious Daigo was dead, but the ultra animation was still running.
At that point, the commentators started yelling: “Get him out of his face, get him out of Daigo’s face” or something like that.
Given that Justin had previously stood up (in an earlier round, although he certainly didn’t get in Daigo’s face) after taking a win off Daigo, most people assumed the commentators were talking about Justin.
But if you continued listening to the stream, you could hear the commentators saying that someone was sitting too close to the action and was blocking Daigo’s line of sight. It’s much more natural to assume a fan got too hype and either moved in front of Daigo or scooted over.
don’t people learn

I know Wong has been practicing with Fei-Long quite a bit but why do you suppose he choose him against Daigo?
Did he want to get a lead by taking advantage of Daigo’s unfamiliarity with console characters? Did he choose him because Fei-Long had some good tools against Ryu?
Basically, once Wong had meter he could shut out Daigo’s fireball zoning with an EX Chicken Wing combo. Considering how much Daigo utilizes Ryu’s fireball in general it was pretty sounds to get him to stop using one of his favorite tools. What was impressive was Daigo creating a punish with a fireball FADC back dash to bait EX Chicken Wing then punished with SRKxxUltra.
Then Daigo learned how to footsie against Fei-Long and it was looking real bad for Wong in some matches. Just that crazy adaptation was incredible on Daigo and I don’t know how the man can learn the match up in like 7-10 sets.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH!!! that is the greatest ever!!!
NEVER GIVE UP!!!
Fei isn’t strong enough to be an anti-shoto, but he’s got enough tools to put up a fight.
Real advantage comes from forcing Daigo to learn to footsie Fei on the fly. Daigo was punished so much during the (first) winner’s finals because he didn’t know the ranges Fei wanted to be in for rekkas and crouch fierce. Fei’s focus also has a surprising range, and he has a fast dash.
I wish I could find the first winner’s finals on youtube, watching that, you really see how lost Daigo was in terms of footsies.
not really, local sports announcers will do that and its to be expected. there’s no reason for a home baseball announcer not to show his bias, he’s an employee of the team.
national and regional broadcasters don’t really show bias. you and I may not like the things they say about “our team” but that doesn’t make them bias.
its really not important though, we aren’t talking about a nationally televised event. its an underground draw for a niche group of fans. Seth Killian does an excellent job as an announcer.
Thanks Seth.
LOL is this really needed
Yes, American SF commentators suck. Except Rockefeller.
hahahaha
Here is that match, including a sick combo leading to the “get him out of Daigo’s face” moment at 3:20

Rock for life!
LOL, why is it that by default we should be rooting for Daigo?
Its not?
It’s good for the whole U.S. scene if Justin competes with and beats Daigo.
Internet debating about them is pretty pointless though. Justin is going to go back to the lab and try something different next time; Daigo will keep doing what he’s doing.
They were talking ProTips out to eat after the tourney apparently, haha. I was told that Daigo said Justin was a 10/10 on a player scale, but Daigo breaks that scale, haha. Moses also said that Justin saying he wasn’t sure his style works against the Japanese, and Daigo said it’s because Justin relies on punishment, and the Japanese don’t make many mistakes. I wish Fugee and I could have gone out with everyone afterwards
We took Daigo for pizza Thursday night though, that was cool. I’m sending the vid to Moses who was translating for him, and he’s going to post it on YouTube. I asked him too about Justin and some SF questions, so we might edit this for the DVD.
Moses is the man.
DVD sounds awesome - a must buy considering everything that happened that weekend. Excellent job!
I think it was a cheap move on Justin’s behalf to go console char vs Daigo, knowing that he didnt have much experience against Fei, but all in all, it was awesome on two parts. Firstly, amazing that JWong is so well versed with a large portion of the cast of SF4 at this level of play, and secondly, it was a great show of skill for Daigo to adapt so quickly to Justins style of play using Fei.
A lot of guys jock on Daigo, but I think this is the reason why, the guy has the ability to adapt, even when his execution is off, he can still find ways to win. Thats what great players do, thats what separates him from the pack, and thats why people keep flying him back to mainland events, hoping someone would score a victory over this guy, and gain some fame, for themselves, and the event.
As far as tourneys go, BarFights2 and SB4 all show how great these events are, but they cost money to put on. I think Capcom should start sponsoring more of these events in the future. Getting the scene so alive and active only means more money in their pockets, and Capcom USA could easily fund it.
