What’s the difference between commenting on a player’s vid, and commenting on a televised basketball game?
I don’t see anyone commenting from the vids that they think they’ve found Daigo’s weakness or that they can beat him, so why are you acting like you’re on the rag.
Alright, a couple things about Daigo. Whether you like him or not, he’s the most recognized player in the world. As we all know, he truly established himself since winning the world A3 tourney and he’s been in the top ranks ever since. The reason why he’s considered the best right now is that he’s consistently in the top tier in #R, 3S, CvS2. Seeing that these are the most popular games out there, it makes him stand out - sorry guys, but Marvel’s pretty much dead outside the US.
Now, what I said is that he’s in the top tier in those games…he’s necessarily the best. In fact, it’s been a while since Daigo won any major tourneys in Japan. In SBO 2004 (which I went to), his team got knocked out in the first round in #R, the only match he played in CvS2 he lost, and he didn’t qualify for 3S. So yes, in Japan, there’s a wealth of players out there that are “better” than Daigo in individual games. But there aren’t any players that are among the best in all those games either (yes, I know he owns in more games than I mentioned). Plus a lot of the good players in Japan aren’t recognized yet cause they’re only known in their respective games. It all boils down to him riding on his past fame and being the best multi-game player out there. So give the man credit cause it takes a hell lot of skill to get good at even one game.
Wow diago deejay is crazy and i never seen short short super with ken in a match before. Madd props to him
Don’t get me wrong. I respect Daigo a lot, as he’s definitely one of the best SF players (and probably THE best) of all time. He’s earned his place in history and is now regarded as a sort of living legend, which is a bit silly, since he’s still young and active (and, of course, owning 99% of all players). I just don’t think he is presently the best, and we don’t need to put him up on such a pedestal as though he were. As you say, Daigo is “riding on his past fame,” which isn’t altogether a compliment. I’ve heard so many stories about that A3 match against Valle that make it sound almost mythic, but if you look objectively at the facts now, you’ll realize he isn’t a god.
STFU Daigo nuthugger. :-*
Buccho: Gotcha about Vampire and A3.
But placing “well ahead” or “not far behind” someone in a given tourney does not necessarily make you are “better” or “almost as good” as them. Justin and Daigo didn’t face the same people at Evo2K4, and double elimination results can be random as hell sometimes depending on how homogenous the level of competition is.
How many times has Justin beaten Daigo in 3s, ST and CvS2? From what I understand, it sounds like Daigo has the upper hand whenever they play each other in those games. Daigo also tends to get more props because he dominates in the most competitive place in the world, whereas it’s unknown at the moment whether Justin would be able to do the same thing or not. Being a top player in the US and being a top player in Japan are two completely different things.
On the other hand, Justin has MvC2 going for him, so you could argue that he’s a more “complete” player indeed. But the “best” Capcom player, I don’t know about that yet. I don’t think it’s fair to consider Justin as even close to Daigo’s level or better in any SF game until he beats him consistently or goes to Japan and does well in the same environment -which I’m positive he will sooner or later, it’s probably just a matter of time at this point.
where can i get the username and password? i want to see that
The level of play in Japan in all the games mentioned such as: GGX, SF3, Cvs2, A3 and even the Vampire series is and has been SOOOO far ahead of the the US for many years now that to say Justin Wong is equal to or even better than Daigo is a joke. Also, many people seem to forget that there are good players in all parts of the world in particular regions of South East Asia and parts of Europe whom are better than J.Wong in 3rd Strike. I find it funny how so many Americans place him as the great US rival to Japan’s Daigo. He isn’t even the best SF3 player in the US to begin with - that title goes to Pyrolee. Evolution isn’t a worldwide tourney yet.
Only really in this years past Evo has the US made a really strong standing against Japan and even then one could argue it is due to the fact it was a console tourney.
Playing in the arcades and playing on a console are two ENTIRELY different things.
By the way, props to the French players for giving it a go against Daigo - further proof that there are many players all over the world apart from Japan and the US that can play SF3 & Cvs2.
can someone convert ram into like mpeg or wmv or something else not RAM? I just dislike using the format cause one…it won’t run on my comp.
Who???
I’m really guilty of this one, i almost ALWAYS taunt at the end of a round. I also try to kill with hitting taunt (no one can parry that shit :p). But as Bk said, it’s only by habit now…
indeed players like yamazaki93 are a strong showing from europe, and I know you guys have strong 3s players as well.
wow that ggxx was some embarrasing shit
