Cvs2 team formation: discussion/suggestions, etc

How do you guys feel about N Guile as a ratio 2 anchor?

sup cvs2 community…just getting into this game

is Mai, Chun Li, Ken R2 - C groove a decent team to start with?

these characters feel scrub-friendly to me and i wanna start small and get used to this game before moving onto other grooves or characters. help is appreciate

you have much better options such as sagat, chun, or blanka. guile is best as a battery, not an anchor. the only reason you would want a R2 anchor N-guile is if you’re facing a R2 anchor sagat, then you spam the backfist a ton because he can’t crouch it.

i think mai and chun li are okay because they are very footsie/whiff punishing oriented, but R2 ken does not sound like a good idea to me. he’s one of the more difficult characters to use for a beginner IMO. you’ll just be spamming RC funky kicks and getting punched in the face by sagat a lot and owned up by blanka in the anchor spot.

i think a better team if you’re hell bent on playing ken is C-ken/chun/R2 sagat. sagat is one of those characters in cvs2 you need to know about even if you’re not playing him just so you can know what he’s capable of. same with blanka and vega. a team like C-vega/sagat/R2 blanka would also be an awesome starting team and get you a ton of wins because it’s a strong team. but stay with C-groove when you’re starting out. A or K (or even N) will come later after you get the basics down.

and be ready to miss the link into chun’s kick super, be left wide open, eat a fat level 3/CC, and want to never play cvs2 again, lol.

peace

Pick N-groove, put Ken in the middle and Chun Li last.
N is Mai’s best groove. N is tied with C for Chun/Ken’s best groove.

Chun isn’t scrub-friendly at all, she’s got all those hard links into super, you got to learn set-ups for CH c.LPs, set-ups for s.MP/c.MP xx Kick Super, etc. She’s very solid but definitely not scrub-friendly.

popoblo’s suggestions with Vega/Blanka/Sagat are very good as well (you might want to try Cammy in addition to those characters).
I’ve thought about switch to C-Vega, Blanka, R2 Sagat but Vega & Blanka are way too boring for my tastes.

I am considering switching from

C-Rolento, Ryu, Sagat 2

to

C-Sak, Ryu, Sagat 2.

Good decision? Bad decision? I am a rather meat-and-potatoes player, so I am looking for a team that plays tightly and economically.

i like running and getting meter with mai and occassional semi rush with her. i put chun behind her cuz of…well, chun with 3 lvls in C groove. but yeah i think ken might need to go…i think i will replace him with sagat, even though i dont like the top tiers of this game (character and playing wise)

N is mai’s best groove? i know it adds great to her rushdown but i dont use it much, usually just turtling and getting whatever much i can take off until chun comes in.

i’d have to look on how to plays these characters on N groove, but if its worth it i’ll definitely do so. also i didnt mean exactly scrub friendly, but i found it easy to link supers with someones tip in the chun forums. the qcf during a normal then qcf+k. i dont have a problem with linking the super on reaction, but the setups im not soo sure about yet.

i wanna keep mai is a battery, i just need a good user/anchor to top it off. and what groove should i play? which is best for a new user to start off with? it looked like C was the best but N is looking good too right now. thanks for all the help soo far and in advance

I used to run k-blanka/rock/sagat and k-cam/blank/sagat but since a-groove is used so much in tournaments and what not I wanted to throw zangief into my main team as I feel he does somewhat well against most characters picked in a-groove. I guess I am curious to hear people’s reactions on who counters k-gief. my thought was that cammy would be a bad counter that comes to mind quickly and…i haven’t played a beastly eagle before but he comes to mind too lol…

What other character should I run in k-groove that would be a good match against cammy? honestly my thought was either yama/gief/sagatR2 or sagat/geif/yamaR2

also what are chang’s rough battles? chun li?

i know this is a lot but, why do i not see any k-boxer or k-terry’s getting played somewhat seriously? bleh, i guess im trying to find out about some of the more unorthadox characters of the game. i hope im not asking too much x_X ty in advance

Hm…Mai is great as a battery, no doubt, but if you’re pretty decent with her, you could probably put her as User (just got to time her Supers right to make sure they hit fully). But, that’s my 2 cents.

Zangief gets countered by pretty much everyone. The worst that come to mind are Cammy, Yamazaki, Eagle, Sagat, and GUILE

Guiled does well against cammy but not so well in k groove. Sak also does well but not good in k groove.

Chang has trouble with mostly everyone, especially people with fireballs.

Rog does well against tall characters and people who cant crouch his fierce. Against the short chars, he doesnt do so well. Terry just sucks and does have a reliable anti air without a charge.

far s.MP xx Kick Super & c.MP xx Kick Super aren’t hard. The one I was talking about is c.LP, c.LP, c.MP xx Kick Super, which is her best combo but requires good timing.

If you’re really good with Chun you could try her as anchor. Other options would be the usual characters: Sagat, Blanka, Cammy, etc.

ok ill keep chun as an anchor. the c.lp c.lp c.mp combo isnt hard at all for me, its one of my favorite crouching light chains to time. i hit it just like it sounds and it works for me, the 1-2-3 sound of it.

who would be a good user if i kept chun as an anchor though?

and where in the forums can i find tiers for specific grooves? that would probably answer a lot of my questions.

^

Ken, if you plan to run with the same three characters. Having Chun as an anchor restricts the “user” role, because she works much better with meter. You would want someone who can deal damage without meter like Ken, but can also utilize the meter if the need arises. Chun can make do without meter, but I think it is better if she has something to work with at the beginning of a round.

^^ you could also run the team as if it were setup Anchor/Battery/User. On that setup you may want to have a good battery, like Mai, in the middle to build meter for Chun.

Like: Ken/Mai/Chun

After playing some with Kyo on P-Groove I like him. I also tried Rock on P-Groove as well and Im liking him on that as well. So now Im wondering who to use between Kyo and Rock. Im so close to finishing my main team but Not sure who to put who where on the list. Again my team is. Ryu, Chun Li, Kyo or Rock P.

kyo would do loads better in P than rock.

I like the Parry over the Just Defend on K Groove with him a lot.

well good because P-Kyo > K-Kyo. P rock just wouldn’t do as well as K

I’d pick Kyo OR Rock based on matchups. Learn your matchups and just pick who you’re more comfortable with. I’m glad to see i’m not the only P Rock player.

I feel I have more freedom with parrying with Rock than Just Defend. Plus I like mixing up parries with counters. Plus I like punishing with Parry into Neo Deadly Rave. And Parry Shining Knuckles when I catch them in the air. I just cant do that with Just Defend.

Thinking of playing C-Guile/Ken/Sagat2. I’m proficient with this team, nothing to drool over though (can do the standand BnBs, super cancel lvl.2 finishers, etc). Or would I be better off with Cammy in place of Ken? I’d REALLY like to stick with C-Guile/Ken/Sagat2 (fits my personal character preference), but if Cammy will be more consistent, better, etc. I’d like to switch.

Any thoughts?
