I’ve always been afraid of grappler characters. I swear no matter how much I bust my ass to keep them they’ll get in somehow, and I just lose big time. So god damn intimidating.

I bet he would… :looney:
I think it’s known that Vega in general only good in battery, so that would probally be the order.
Anyways, I’ve been messing around with some new characters, as Athena’s CvS2 incarnation is bland after years, and watching a few Combofiend vids, and playing around I really like Eagle (Not in the gay sense =P). Does Combofiend still play Eagle? Popoblo do you still use Eagle too?
No matter what formation i try, i never seem to find a solid one,
Sakura/Bison/Blanka R2 was my primary but then sometimes i find myself handicapped without using Vega in my team, therefore sakura goes. Then I find myself handicapped without sakura, pretty gay.
I know this is REALLY late, but what the hell is with all these Vegas lately, it felt for me like this year everyone is playing Vega, Blanka, Bison… Is it because people are way too lazy to learn shoshosho?
i think it’s cause vega has a better ground game than sak, walks around faster than sak, jsut as good of a battery, and a brain dead easy cc that does decent damage.
having an air throw and high priority jump attacks doesn’t hurt either.
Did it take people, like 5 years to kind of notice that, or is it like just a trend that a “new” character is used the fuck out of?
Vega has always been around, It’s just that Sak does very well against K.
Oh, okay. Thanks for the clairification.
Oh man, K-Mai vs A-Sak has to be my favorite match up in this game (next to K-Balrog vs any groove Blanka). I swear watching that little bitch fail to get in on Mai makes me the happiest person in the world.
Oh and outside of electricity, Balrog’s j.RH (even better with small jump) beats out everything of Blanka’s, and I mean everything. I believe the same goes for Sagat, but not as sure yet.
<3
mai is too nasty and ridiculously underrated. i’ve been doing really well with geese, mai, sagat lately.
except for rc ball (which people can do on reaction)
I meant more interms of normals and what Balrog’s j.RH stuffs. Obvious INVINCIBLE AIRBORNE BULLSHIT is going to beat out that, but I can still go for a meaty j.RH on Blanka because it crosses that fat bastard up.
Hell, playing Nick on Friday I was jabbing him out of RC electricity.
Someone has to get me the frame data on Balrog.
Ok I’m going to answer some of these questions of the vega vs. sak debate. Honestly japan thought japan sucked up until 2004 when they saw Ricky play Vega. Around that time Honda was becoming dominant and people were realizing that vega does well against honda AND sakura, who are characters that give problems to most of the other top-tier characters. Once Bas dropped honda for vega, everyone followed suit just cause bas does know best. He is the best in the world right now and he must do it for a reason. There are a lot of respected CVS2 players who still think vega is not top tier though and there are good reasons for it.
My personal opinion and advice for any A-groove users that need help choosing a team.
It’s pretty much been agreed upon that a-xx/bison/blanka-2 is the best team choice for a-groove and for good reason. Bison is a monster that can wipe out an entire character in a matter of seconds but he is inconsistent. He’s an above average character without meter but he’s by far the best in the game with meter. For those of you considering bison as an anchor, you better be very patient and have a really good bison. When you don’t have meter you’re basically dead meat against the 2 characters that people anchor most often, sagat and blanka. If any of you want to argue that matchup with me I’ll be glad to give reasons and examples later but for now I’m arguing it as a given.
Vega vs. Sakura debate: If you can do sakura custom consistently use sakura, if not use someone else. I personally think Sakura is better than Vega. She has stand rh, rc fireball, and rc hurricane kick which are all very good pokes against the other top tier characters. On top of that she has a 10,000 damage custom that can be activated in a ridiculous amount of situations. If you can do that custom consistently you should be using sakura. Even a shitty sak is going to take out a huge part of someone’s team if the user is moderately sensible about when to activate custom. She has become a heavily under-rated character because of the popularity of team a-bas.
Alternatives to the normal a-groove teams: Hibiki, honda, eagle, rolento are all good enough against all the top tier characters in the game that there is no reason not to mix one in if you have a good one. For example, when I use a-groove in tournaments (aka when i’m feeling lazy) my team is usually xx/vega/blanka. I always mix in one of those characters in the 1st position because they are all very good and have the potential to kill at least the opponents first character. I use hibiki, eagle, or rolento because my honda sucks and I can’t do sakura or bison customs to save my life. In tourney situation I always advise you go with the character you are more comfortable with over the character that is better on paper.
Also good a-groove characters to mix in are ken, iori, kyo, joe, sagat, and rock. I personally consider all of these characters mid=tier though meaning you’ll have problems once you hit the highest level of play, something you might want to consider
Okay, Since my Bison isn’t really top notch, but I consider my Eagle pretty good, and my mind games are good too (I’ve thrown people 5 times in a row sometimes). Should I go A-Mai, Bison, Eagle?
No you should go a-mai/blanka/eagle since you said your bison isn’t very good.
Blanka is so good in A that I would recommend all teams have him. Kinda like with all other grooves I personally think sagat should be on them too.
I’ve seriously tried to play Blanka, but I don’t like him, I just can’t get used to his gameplay, for me he just seems extremly stiff. And I’ve already took about like 2 months to get down PTF down. I’ve actually never tried it, but is Sakura’s shoshosho cc same exact timing/movement as PTF? I can play Sak, as I learned her in C groove, and I enjoy playing her.
the Shosho is probably easier than ptf, although i can’t do either. But at least ive been able to pull off the shosho in practice whereas ptf never. Also i agree A-blanka all the way. He just pokes, flies around and chips.
Just try it out, the only difference between the 2 is that if you mess up sakura custom you can get fucked up if you mess it up the wrong way. shouldn’t be too hard for you though if you can do bison custom already. I would recommend anchoring eagle though. It’s a bad match against sagat but a stalemate against blanka IMO.
I think Bas calls all of these players Bitches! lol.
He a also thinks that K- groove Mai, is better than K- Kyo.
