CvS2 on 60GB PS3

please do, so then I have a re-enforced reason to buy a ps3 stick.

I have used both a VSHG (PS3) and a HRAP2 (PS2, with a lag-free converter) for backward compatible games and both have worked. However, I used a SAULABI PS3 stick and it did not work with backwards compatible games. So I guess that it depends upon the stick.

UPDATE: So I finally spoke to ‘fubarduck’ and this is what he said:

So even with an ideal setup, you would still have 2 frames of lag. The playability of that is up for interpretation…

Sorry if this may seem obvious to some, I’m no pro. Would two frames of lag negatively affect gameplay? will it be noticeable?

Well I recall NKI posting a vid where he figured out that Capcom Classics Collection 2 had 4 frames of lag (for ST)… Based on that, we can assume it’s still undesirable, but perhaps not unforgivable.

Oops, totally forgot to respond. So I did my test on SFAC, and CFJ on an 80 gig ps3, and yes there is lag.

yeah the 2 frame lag is utter suck, sony is just out to make money. fucken assholes are like microsoft wit vista.

Just to clarify, the 2 frame lag is with ideal settings.

So to clarify an ideal setting would be:

  • An up scanner
  • Pair of Pelican adaptors

You would still get 2 frames of lag?

wait wait, ideal settings? so there is a way to run it wit no lag??? :looney:

How bad are we talking about? I have a HK 80gig PS3 and I just ordered CVS2 :wonder:

I do have access to a PS2 but it’s wrecked and it’s my brothers, I’d prefer to play it on my PS3.

Sorry for not clarifying. What it means is that even if you have the ideal settings to simulate a PS2 connection (see below), you would still get 2 frames of lag. In other words, there is a minimum of 2 frames of lag no matter what. I was trying to emphasize that 2 frames is not going to be the amount of lag for all setups.

When I say ideal settings I mean a PS3 w/composite cables connected to a CRT (AKA tube). Lag-free adapters or PS3 sticks can be considered, but don’t really matter since the lag comes from the PS3 itself (according to fubarduck).

As for an up-scanner, I don’t know much about how those work. If you are trying to make your HDTV match the effects of a CRT, then thats fine. But you’ll still get 2 frames of lag since the PS3 itself causes the lag–not the video signal.

I recommend that you just play it and see if you are able to enjoy it. As long as you are satisfied with it, don’t worry about the lag (unless it’s horrible, lol).

None of the next gen systems bother with being native to the 480i/p resolutions that our beloved old fighting games are displayed as. In order for a PS3 to process the video signal from CvS2, it has to take the 480 image and turn it into whatever your TV is set to. So even if you have an old CRT TV with 480 resolution (basically 95% of all CRT TVs), the PS3 is not native to that resolution, and thus requires about 35 milliseconds to convert all of that data.

2 frames of lag is UNACCEPTABLE!

Maybe you guys have lag because you are using ps2-to-ps3 converters?.. just guessing…
I don’t see lag on mine, using HRAP3 on a PAL 60 gb PS3, smoothing is OFF, and screen mode is full screen…
Well I’m not a fighting game fanatic like you guys (YET, lol) so I just may not see the lag…

This whole issue will never be resolved or even understood because of the damn laymen.
Long live the era of casual gamers…

Oh and… maybe there’s a difference between PAL and NTSC versions?..

If you want to experiment and try parrying stuff on P, you’ll notice the lag too. Sometimes you’ll notice that that click is off; its pretty bad.
