Although I think sprites are nice, I believe using 3D models is a lot easier for devs to make. TvC/SF4 are great examples of 3D graphics being used well in a 2D Capcom fighting game.

If there IS a CvS3, it will definitely NOT use sprites (someone wants KoXII style? FUCKING LOL). In fact, banish all thought of hand-drawn sprites from any future Capcom game from your minds. Polygons are here to stay. They will never venture down that path for a major title again.
That said, it probably wouldn’t look like SFIV either. I imagine TvC-style models would be used, maybe with a higher resolution if it was done on more powerful hardware. Which would be fine by me.
That said, I’m not sure I really want a CvS3. I realised, among other things, I didn’t like CvS2 too much because it had too much SNK in it. I liked the SNK characters well enough but I don’t like their systems. I’d rather play SNK characters in a purely SF environment rather than a hybrid, which would kinda defeat the purpose of a CvS3.
KoF 12 looks quite sexy though… Fuck it, 2D is amazing.
CVS2 is my favorite capcom game ever made. I mean really what is not to like about that game, it has everything.
I wish they would port CVS2 over to the PSP or make an online version for the PS3.

Oh I don’t disagree. KoFXII does look amazing. But there’s no way Capcom is going to spend a fortune and 4 years making one game that may or may not do especially well. SFIV gets hype because it’s SFIV, but there’s no guarantee that CvS3 would do the same - SF series can claim millions in sales, what can CvS series claim? 500,000 for all versions at best?

Polygonal graphics are actually much easier to do than bitmapped sprites. Its like the difference between doing a single, but articulate action figure that can be posed in any way, or doing thousand of paper sketches of a hand-drawn character doing every action he needs to do. I can understand why 2D sprites were still preferred during the PlayStation/N64 era, where polygonal graphics were still pretty ugly and blocky, but 3D graphics have since progressed to the point that bitmapped sprites are almost obsolete.
Not sure, the last JoJo game (Phantom Blood) was published by Bandai, but maybe they still got some rights for Part III and V. Though they’re so old I don’t know why they’d bother; they should do a game with all the chars from all generations, or a Steel Ball Run one.

This is true…and Capcom has shown with SF4 they can make money doing it (and TvC) so it would only be logical to put in less effort to make more money…

Cvs1 had better presentatio but, thats about it. Gameplay was IMPROVED for cvs2. Six buttons didnt hurt either.
