Custom Ball Top *Help*

I found some 39mm Ball Tops that I just need to install the insert and it’s ready to go.
Number 1 where can I find a insert that will fit the Sanwa JLF?
Number 2 How to install it and secure it the easiest way.

It turns out that it’s really hard to drill into glass without breaking anything. Check out Numski’s progression from a few years back: http://forums.shoryuken.com/t/custom-ball-tops-now-its-a-reality-on-sale-now-discuss-here/19569page-2

That bottom one looks like marble. You’ll need a drill press, appropriate bits, something to hold the ball very securely, and lots of lubrication.

Thanks a lot for the info. So it’s a bitch to make then :frowning: . Do you know anyone that offers this service? Like I provide the ball top and He/She would do the work.

As far as inserts, you could try a bat top adaptor… I bought a few a while ago for that purpose… I have a logitech marble mouse that i have wanting to try that on… Thinking about trying this week.

the bat top adaptor has external threads. it would be better to find the specs on the type of thread used so you can buy something made for insulators or glass.

EDIT: it is an M6 thread for sanwa ball tops

I know it has the external threads… Was thinking drill it out, then use a tap and die on it. Screw in the adaptor with some epoxy or treadlock…

Dunno if will work… Worth a shot

something like this maybe

Insertsdirect are great. I get my inserts from there. If its going into glass I think you would need to resin set them in so make sure you go for “blind end” ones. The ends of them are closed so resin wont come up through into the threaded area.

As far as drilling into glass is concerned, I haven’t got a clue. But maybe a porcelain tile hole cutter on a drill press might work if you do it very carefully and keep it wet all the time.

Thanks guys for all the info. I will give it a shot

So i figured i would give it a shot…

Here is the ball i used

Needed some inserts… Had a few spare white balltops… Used torch to heat the brass fitting, then used a spare shaft to pull it out… Heheh… Torch…

Drilled out the hole with my dremel, put some epoxy in there, then hammered it in place…

made two of em… They look pretty decent…

Whered you get that ball Ed?

Logitech trackman marble

I knew I kept the balls out of those
old trackballs for something:)

WOW i really like that! is it 35mm? or close to it? really good work man!

Its slightly larger than the ones butteroj sells (barely)
