Here’s a hint if you don’t: I was the asshole on ForceDisconnect
Also I still regularly play FD2, game is the best

Needs lobbies so players can get comfortable and learn from others by seeing them in action, examining fights and picking up different tactics. Learn through osmosis, misery loves company and all that. KOFXIII was the same way. Netcode was not as good in KOFXIII, but when players draw a 3-4bar connection and still leave because of player levels and stuff…not having lobbies seems to put a lot of pressure on new players to stick around because they don’t want to get repeatedly thrashed all alone and feel like shit about it. Seeing other players succeed/struggle, everyone in the room trying to knock off a dominant player etc, it’s part of the community building, almost a necessity for online FGs now.
OH SHIIIIII I remember now. And we were all assholes on FDC.
Also, on topic, I agree with the statement about everyone having 50 other main games to practice for Evo and majors. I also agree with Master Chibi about how you should love and cherish even the smallest of scenes rather than throw a fit that “only” six people in your area play SG. I’m lucky if I get 6 here for UMVC3 these days, and that’s saying something. Just keep playing and eventually others in your scene might pick it up. And, for god’s sake, don’t yell at them if they don’t. People don’t like being told that they play the “wrong game”. Mostly because that’s the most fucking retarded thing you can say to someone. “You’re playing the wrong video game.” Honestly. The fuck.
Fighting game should be a 2 player game. Unless you incorporate combo breakers, the game is essentially a one player game during a combo. The longer the combo, the longer the 1 player experience.
I was talking about this with my one of my friends that used to play SG, and he has a different perspective on this. If “losing” was the only problem, there’s no real reason for DoubleCock to be singled out. A scrub would probably lose to any good player using any character, so why the specific hate for this duo? Why aren’t there as many complaints about Val and PW’s combos? Filia’s resets? Parasoul’s everything?
His idea is that it’s not just losing per se, but losing to someone using an “easy” strategy. It’s similar to the generous amounts of salt Wolverine and AE Yun generated by derping their way to victory via “dive kicking all day”. DoubleCock is likewise viewed by some (or maybe most) players as a simple, effective strategy that does not require much effort to succeed with. Whether or not that is actually true doesn’t matter. It only matters that the perception exists.
For
Fighting Game Success Formula: big hit sparks, dive kicks, wtf hit boxes, comeback mechanics, nostalgic characters, and new mechanics that is easy to learn but difficult to master, so you spend the next 10 years mastering that shit.
Realistically, the participation numbers for majors aren’t a problem. This game is considered good. It just takes time/effort to build a scene from something that doesn’t instantly get played. I think the biggest issues are certainly roster (for spectators), lobbies (for many people), and quite frankly–the number of games out there. With Persona 4 Arena on the horizon, a lot of the air-dash FG players will be moving to the next big game as well.
while i really hope that the game has got plenty of life left in it, and i am trying to hold on to the possibility that it will become more popular after the patch/EVO, im a little worried that the game wont ever be picked up in any kind of reasonable number, especially online, since the online scene seems to be dying on its arse atm.
whether people think online play matters or not (which is matter of opinion), you cant argue with the fact more players is more players. whether they are online warriors, tourny goers, or a combination of both. not everyone who plays online wants to stay online, they only play it because it is a necceasary evil of being able to play with ANYONE (myself included).
im hoping that the skullgirls tournies have a real good turnout and have plenty of hype moments to keep people interested, and that the whole thing doesnt revolve around who can use their invincible assist better. im telling myself that a good showing at EVO will bring more players to the scene online or off, but then again the same will happen for all the other main games at EVO as well as everything else will have its share of hype moments and crazy comebacks as well.
so that is my thoughts on things atm, trying to be cautiously optimistic…
I agree with the post in page 2 that many people say this game is too “pervy” because of an all female cast.
Hell, I asked my two younger brothers and they told me "it looks like only faggots play that."
This is coming from two people that don’t play fighting games at all, but it can give a biased example of what casuals of gaming think of it at the most.
Also for the people getting into Skullgirls without any experience in popular FG’s (me) it takes a good while to learn it, because I am an mk player and learning the inputs is like a whole new language to me. I am doing my best to go to locals, and it seems that it’s pretty popular at the least in my area. I have yet to learn all the technical aspects of the game, which will take me a while to adjust to and memorize.
Other than that I don’t see any negative aspects of the game, but I would also include my opinion that I would play it MUCH more if it had lobbies.
All girl cast games get a lot of hate, Arcana Heart was one of them and that game is godlike. Generally anime art kind of fighters don’t get a large following
I knew what it said.
Those games were the main games that lead to EVO growing every year. These were the games that aided in the transition from arcade cabs to consoles as the standard.
Trying to down play the pre-SF4 titles that EVO ran?
GG was a game that was ran 5 years on the main stage alongside 3S and MvC2 and ST, when Capcom bailed on fighting games and the community continued to grow larger and larger, the years when EVO grew itself to be one of the prestigious FG events in the world. The game is a corner stone that the FGC was built on.
I’m off topic, I’ll stop with my ranting.
LOL YES, BECAUSE IF IT ISNT STREAMED ITS NOT RELEVANT
State of the Scene:
Game is two months old.
We should be writing primers.
People still think BnB include jumping attacks.
People secretly hate long combos more than they hate zoning.
Not Mike Z’s fault people are hella dumb.
I’d say the scene is in a pretty good place. If you thought this game was going to blow up like MvC3 you were hella dumb.
The only way for the scene to survive is for evo to be won by solo rushdown peacock.
Mvc2 still has a huge following. I was talking about non-capcom games in particular.
Hey. Last time I checked game had pretty good following from guys who enjoyed artstyle and characters but knew nothing about playing FGs properly. If you want to expand the scene why not create some articles and/or videos to help them learn the game? This way you won’t be persuading someone to switch games - you’ll just get new players. Sounds a little bit easier.
I stopped playing a month back. Waiting for the patch atm.
I guess I just don’t like how the games combo system feels. I dunno. I don’t really have the motivation for it right now.
SG simply needs time for people to like the characters. Look at games like Dead Or Alive series, which also had tons of fan services, probably had it’s first game arcade cabinet empty back in the days, but that didn’t not stop the developers from improving their title. The SG team probably needs to dish out some side story lines in forms of comic strips or make cast spinoff games for people to care about the characters more. Look at Capcom’s Street Fighter, the fanboy scene exploded after the animated movie came out. The cast in the game became heroic icons and forever embedded into our childhood memories.
If SG can be this good within only 1.5 year of development, imagine how good the next sequel could be if the team had more time on it. I’m also very glad to hear that Autum Games is made of nice people unlike Capcom’s slave masters that’d over work Ono and put him in the hospital. Autum Games + Reverge Labs = SG
Another thing to point out is that it’s rarely for Fighting Games in general to make a lot of money. In terms of cost and profit, it makes a lot of sense why so many big developing companies make FPS and MMORPG instead of fighting, platform, or shooters.
I think what Fighting Game developers need to do is to find ways to make their games more socially oriented. In FPS, you can talk on headphones, have a match of 8vs8, or even 16vs16. In MMORPG, you can join teams and have 20 ppl playing at the same map. In Fighting Games, you only have 1 other person playing with you, with exception of 2v2 in SFxTK and 2v2 MvC1 Kaillera hack.
CHARACTER ROSTER
MOAR CHARACTERS
^ this is one of the reasons this game will most likely never make it, and people like this who are so butthurt does nothing but hold a community back… I remember when i played gg for fun then wanted to learn it the hardcore route butt people expect you to play their games and never teach or compromise… this i going to become another niche game full of self ego rubbin kids like bb etc… funny story is fanatiq said he tried to get into bb and gg (anime games) but people wouldn’t do something as simple as swallow their pride and show him capcom type anottations qcf C etc… instead of number notation such as 623 and that was the deciding factor to a player that could’ve helped those scenes to play or not to play!
