Current State of the Skullgirls Scene

What the game needs is lobbies. That’s pretty much killed it online. People I know just won’t get it because it has no lobbies, which to be fair is reasonable. And people complain there isn’t enough characters (silly complaint) so they don’t get it. It’s also a new IP people aren’t familiar with it and will choose their other fighters over it. People won’t get into it because it looks “pervy” and think it’s all about the fanservice, even though it is fan service but more to the fighting game fan not the teenage boy.
So online scene is pretty dead, despite it having one of the best online netcode there is.
I don’t even know if the UK has a scene for this. If it hasn’t I’m sure as hell making it or increasing it. Too much love for this game for it to just die.

Back seat, right side, unlocked doors.

Well, console cabinet to be exact.
GameCenter in San Mateo.

They need to start making Male characters DLCs right away. More than 50% of potential players are probably staying away from this game simply because it’s a full female cast.

at least 16!? that’s a huge risk to take on an indie game. If it doesn’t sell well, the entire dev. team could go bankrupt. In the end, it’s really about resource management.

That’s just scrub talk, if you don’t like losing you shouldn’t even play a fighting game. Or how about playing someone not good, at the same level as you are? that should be fun for you.

09 is when the scene grew greatly due to SF4, not guilty gear or any of those sideline games. Which is why they don’t matter atm.

Have you watched the Youtube video on how to get around that?
Hornet Bomber is getting nerfed in the patch anyway, but that video is still useful post-patch.

I think it’s largely due to the characters being females and they are new so you can’t really feel attached to them. Why do people like MvC? because you get to be awesome super heroes and bad-ass villains. So the game instantly became popular among its target audience. In addition, you have full screen supers with giant hit sparks, making you feel gdlk.

The same could be said about 3rd strike. It was a superb fighting game and yet it didn’t have much popularity simply due to lack of familiar characters. Capcom learned this right away in their development of SF4 series and brought back nearly all of the classic characters.

i moved from my country so i dont know how its the scene there right now, though here where i live now, there is not a scene, of any fg tbh :frowning:
that is pretty much the reason why i barely play it right now
online play doesnt make it for me, no matter how good can be, i preffer to play against people irl

im pretty sure that im on the minority when i said that i feel sg to be slower than gg, not only on movement but on the pace of the matches

btw im not surprised that the numbers arent as big as many would like, considering that usa is capcom land and many people hate on games that have a certain type of aesthetics, specially if the roster of the game is full of females

add the lack of lobbies, hb (wich i dont have a problem, but we know the major part of the people dont have the right mentality when it comes to fighters) and that not many people are fond of long combos and you would see a drop on the numbers after a while

I have nothing to say to these kids who think the FGC was created when SF4 came out.

I lost all interest in the game when the damage and combo creativity nerf was announced and now have VF5FS keeping me busy and GGAC+R on the horizon.

Well the only real problem with this game is that it’s still a game in development basically. Casuals will see it as not enough characters and game modes (game is missing a lot of normal options both offline and online that other fighters have) and hardcores are focusing on like 3+other big games for Evo.

The only problem is that we’re back to the old times where games need time to become popular (like 3rd Strike and Guilty Gear did back in the day). People want their SFIV and MVC3 instant tournament and mainstream blow out games and well…that’s not going to happen again probably…ever minus Darkstalkers 4. For any new game to get big in tournaments again it’s going to have to brew like the older gen games.

You keep saying DS4.

This is the community that hates on 3S for having weird characters and hates on other games for being anime.

DS is weirder than 3S and has a lot of anime tropes.

Whenever VSav is streamed, the hate that game generates from viewers is truly outrageous.

VSav game is beautiful in motion too and makes you really appreciate the craft and skill it took to make sprites.

I still can’t fathom how people hate VSAV.

I adore it, like, to the point that if there was a special preview of DS4 in Cali, I would be on the first plane out.

It’s Capcom…they can market shit in a box. We’ll see.

Yes it is, because you can do different things in that chain its not just the same thing over and over.

as long as there are ryu and co or marvel chars on it, otherwise their games arent near as popular to sf or mvc

I get in the ass of anyone abusing that HB assist. I find a nice place to settle in, gently ease myself at first to trick them like “oh, this might actually be pleasurable”, and then I pry that shit open with the quickness. I make Catholic Priests feel like a warm Summer’s breeze. I make prison showers look like sensual massages. I make Mike Tyson look like Santa Claus. I make the dude from Pulp Fiction look like the god damned Ice Cream truck man.

Come at me with HK HB and I’ll tear your ass up too.

Plasma Sword
Rival School
Capcom Fighter Evolution
Red Earth
JoJo Bizarre Adventure
Power Stone
Cyberbots

I’m probably forgetting other Capcom fighters that didn’t work out.

i would add darkstalkers/vampire series just because in reality it wasnt as popular as we would like to think back in the day
and if it wasnt for the infamous evo moment(s), 3s would be on the same group tbh

Fighter Destiny 2 for the N64 reenergized the genre. Fuck a SF4

More like portions of the community, because I know dozens of people who are fighting game loyalists that swear by 3rd Strike, and won’t pick up SF4 because of it. As for the Anime Tropes, 75% of Fighting Games contain them, so it’s basically about which company doesn’t go overboard portraying them.

Me personally, I’d love for DS4 to come out. The characters are still beloved, just look at the reactions Morrigan, Hsien-Ko & Felicia got when they were revealed for Marvel. People automatically started guessing & demanding Demetri and others be included.

Yeah, let’s get something straight. The FGC has been around for over a Decade. It went mainstream when Street Fighter 4 came out.

As for Skullgirls, as I said before, this has the makings to be Street Fighter. And I mean the original Street Fighter. If we support this game and spread the word, a sequel could come out as a physical copy, with FAR more characters, options and bells & whistles to make it contend with some of the top-level fighters out there. But we gotta keep supporting it!
