First off, good work Vas. Way to champion our cause! :tup:
Secondly, does anyone know of some good arcades in the Sac area besides CSUS? I ask this because I’m graduating this semester, and after that, the chances of me coming out to CSUS just to play games is small if any.
Once I get my own place (I still live with my parents), I may start inviting people over to game, but for now, after grad, I’m pretty much relegated to my PS2.
I know of:
Scandia - has MvC2 and that’s about it for fighting games. Well, it has Tekken 5, but no card slots for my characters. Gay.
Sunsplash - Another golf course in Roseville. Has CvS2, Tekken 5, the best SC2 cab I’ve ever seen, even SvC Chaos (shitty though the game may be), but the games are in constant disrepair and only scrubs and kids play there.
CSUS - The best arcade I’ve seen in a while. Variable levels of comp (I want to KEEEK that SONUFABEESH A2 Bison guy’s ass so HORD that the next Bison guy WANNABE is gonna feel it…) Only arcade that has 2nd Impact, which I like because Sean doesn’t suck in it but far from where I live…
Florin Tilt - apparently the mecca for fighting games in Sac, but that’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the fuck on the other side of town. I’ve never even been there.

I’m a native of sacramento tho I go to Cal Poly SLO now, and I stopped by the CSUS union while my friend took her final. Played some ST with a couple of guys there and it was a blast. I’ve never played anyone but my 2 friends at the game, and just wanted to say that was pretty sick. I learned quite a few things playing you guys (I was the long haired white guy w/glasses), and wanted to let you know if you even post on here. Anyways, I hope that email you guys sent out goes thru, the sticks are in sad shape, as are some of the buttons. Down at SLO we have good sticks on 1 machine and that’s guilty gear, which I enjoy but suck at. Anyways, best of luck guys.

Yea I actually played tuesday night 5-7pm. Doubt you’ll see me there again as I believe the union closes after this week anyways, right? About the email, I really hope it works out, but I generally get the feeling that with things the way they are (fighting game scene is much smaller than it used to be), arcade techs aren’t heeding the calls of the regular arcade-goers.
As an example, at our school the only way anything seems to get done is if the PLAYERS get together and buy the stuff. I should have mention in my last post that the ONLY reason GGXX is in our arcade is because some players found it on ebay, bought it, DONATED it to the arcade, AND supplied the buttons (and possibly the joysticks, but definately the buttons) for the arcade techs. I guess some people are trying to get them to buy GG Slash, but the vending guys won’t buy it themselves. They offered that if the players bought it first (thousands of dollars, I believe), that he would “pay them back,” but nobody is willing to take him up on that.
Anyways, all that being said, every other game in our arcade has crappy sticks (usually to match crappy games). The games in our arcade are usually working, thankfully, though when tekken 5 used to break the players in our arcade would break out their screwdrivers and fix the problems. Maybe thats what you guys have to do, lol, I don’t know. It all depends on how much you care about having competition in a public place. Might end up costing you money and time, but it could be worth it (though I don’t think that it should EVER get to this point, I think it has).
One more thing, if you’re still reading: I forgot to mention earlier that the arcade techs DID buy one game recently for our arcade: GG Isuka. I wasn’t really involved in it but I heard that the regular players were telling him specifically NOT to get that game, that it was a waste of money, but they did anyways (I guess because of how well XX does in our arcade). NOBODY plays that game, I think it gets 1 play a week, so there went the money for Slash or ST or CVS2 or even NEW STICKS for SVC Chaos! lol. Anything gets played more than Isuka! Yeah guys, that was really fun. It was enlightening seeing how characters were played by other people, because my experience of fighting Bison was basically dodging st.MK from my roommate. And I’ll always love my Hawk. Ever since I saw the SBO video with toutanki (sp?) I played him addictively, to the point where for my birthday I got a hawk action figure from my roommate. Anyways, ggs guys.

It sucks that this is the only sac thread left on SRK. When I first started on SRK back in '01 the Sac scene was dope…now the old OG game room crew is gone.
Anybody wanna let me in on the secret meeting place where you guys play? Is the Game Room open over break? I’ve been so desperately needing fighting games lately that I went to RVGL to play SF2:T on their ultracade machine lol. The SVC Chaos there (yes I was desperate) has some weird overlap between the joystick on the left side and the jab button. Like you cant hold any direction AND do a jab. It just starts tweaking out. you can do standing jab, but thats it. I just walked away when I figured it out. The sad thing is I know the tech there really well, I just never got to mentioning that he should fix stuff like that.
Is there anywhere to play in this area, or is the CSUS arcade open during the winter? I’m up here for break, but the only arcade I know of is RVGL, and the last time I was there the 2p side of CvS2 was completely non-functional, and the 1p side of SvC: Chaos didn’t jump forward. I’m really looking for a place with a working 3s cabinet, but given the arcades in this area, I’d play whatever is here.
