I hear you man. I’m having trouble using different colors for different light sources. I can only work with blackish purple overlays and the like. And painting without linework is still a bit of a mystery to me.
SFMC said he’s posting a huge Tut in the tips thread. Hopefully since the SRK’s collective is asking alot of the same questions, these will be graced apon. Looking forward to it SFMC. Save me from coloring hell! :wonder:
I forgot to quote Cap and Stranger’s situation on coloring. Umm… some tidbits you could pick up, always consider your lins as a “Setup” for colors, so-to-speak. Munta, I specifically notice that your lines are very thick, which kinda sets your colors up in an awkward position to do realism. Easy thing to do, thin out your lines.
Take NeoBlood’s Sol, for example, since the lines overall are thin, you can execute more realistic tones using that setup of lines. But if they were heavy thick all-around, it’d be much more difficult for the lines to come out. Umm, I think that’s all…? LOL
eh Ill probably end up drawing another Sol for the GG challenge. Or Ill practice coloring until then and submit this one colored. Either way ON TO YUN! or Yang, which ever the one with the hat is I dunno. BTW good pics so far guys but I gotta admit I like SFMC’s stuff the best.
well paiting w/o lines isn’t really a mystery to me, its just the best way to show forms since there are no lines in real life. If you really want to learn it the right way and not just try to feel it out like I’m doing, then you can take some painting classes and it’ll help tremendously. If MC is doing a tut then we shall all prosper. In the mean time, check out the tuts at http://www.simplestroke.com/workshop.html
Cheers form the tut SFMC and the link Dreaded Fist.
I might try out the thin line approach just for something different. I guess it’s ethier one or the other for me. Since I’m such an indy comics fanboy Go Craig Thompson!!!
Thanks for the tips team Oh and DA GAME: Mad skills with the Sol Badguy pic! Can’t wait to see it finished!
He’s actually parrying the fireball.
Yeah the default pose looks pretty stiff (even for Ryu), I should have taken liberties on the way he parried it. Like maybe make the Shinkuu Gadouken he’s parrying bigger or more blast lines or change the pose entirely.
Here’s the 2nd one I’m working on. Ryu’s always been the hardest for me to draw because he’s so bland and it seems you can only do so much with him. So here’s a scene I enjoy so much doing (taking it out on the character) guest starring a mystery fighter that wields fire and ice !!
well so much for wating to pay off my credit card to get a tablet. I was walking around circuit city and grabbed a wacom intuos 4x5. 200 bucks, nice. And thats my Sol pic darn it!@$%!#
VSlash: hey, liking that Ryu, he’s got a nice solid feel to his body. His head seems a tad small though. I’m thinking drawing in a cheekbone might work in the pic, right now it looks a tad flat.
Photon/4Neqs: LOL, 40 year old virgin indeed. you keep coming up with these gems
Wombat: Looks good. Increase your contrast, dare to use strong lights/darks.
keep at it man, and listen to all the crits you get, eventually it’ll click. That’s the premise I’m labouring under.
Cpt: you-hou Yun is cool, the bg should be more white-orange-ish if you’re going for the super KO effect. I also keep thinking Saturday Night Fever for some bizzare reason
Sheng-long: Cool pics. As for the stiff posture, I think all you need is to have him lean into parrying the fireball, and extend his other hand backwards a bit like he’s stabilizing himself.
NeoBlood: As nice as that Sol pic is, it really has no place in a 3S thread. I’m gonna ask you to move it into another thread, I’m gonna give you a couple of days before I delete the post, thanks.
Re: the Epidemic – I’m leaving his posrs up since a couple of you have responded to it. I have PM’d him and hopefully he reverts to me soon.
i go thro this type of shit everday. i go 2 art school…and im tellin u that u will here criticism and it wont beconstructive. next time ill try 2 be nicer however, i speak my mind and truth. as artists u guys need 2 hav tough skin.
let me point something out (i also went to art school)
“u will here criticism and it wont beconstructive”
thats called being a dick in any school. as far as i’m concerned in any forum you have the right to say what you want, but if you want your opinion and views RESPECTED you (general you, not specifically you) state your view in a constructive manner.
no one gives a shit about someone who just says “that sucks” and leaves. (again i’m speaking in general not just to you) ANYONE can just say “that sucks” and bail.
if you think it sucks…thats totally cool. hell even say “that sucks” but say why.
not supporting your statement just makes you look like an ass, and then noone pay your comments any merit.
i don’t know how new you are to this forum, but even the biggest dick to ever come in here “sweet” was his name, would at least say WHY an image wasn’t doing well.
you can be blunt and honest and still offer constructive critisism.
to follow my own advice i’ll close by saying, these are obviously my opinions, and do as you will. just my 2 cents
edit- i don’t want you to think this is an attack on you at all…it isn’t. i’m not trying to target you! everything i said was ment as a general you. i’m not trying to offend anyone.
“Final” version of the 2nd Ryu pic (or until I figure out how to color and how to photograph this thing properly or I feel like adding a background). Sorry if its blurry, I hate digital cameras:
