Cry for HELP!

I’ve been putting in work with Steve in Training Mode as well as Ranked/Endless battles for a good week I’ve even completed all his trials…but I’ve been having a really tough time getting down how to get in there and start off my combos.
I’ve read all the cool and fancy combos on this forum, as well as executed them in Training Mode, but it just seems really tough to put it to use. I have the launcher combo down okay, but that is where it ends.

Basically, I am wondering if anyone on here feels comfortable with Steve and can hop online to give me some tricks and tips on how to get going with Steve. I am using Steve and Chun Li, and I feel good about my Chun Li because I use to use her a lot in SF4. Maybe if your interested in helping me out I can show you a bunch of things with Chun Li.

Anyway, my Xbox Live gamertag is: Ngineer2Perform

Please feel free to shoot me a message anytime.

Hey there, I wouldn’t mind having some friendly matches. Where are you located? Just for connection reasons. I live in the UK, so if you’re in the UK/Europe region that should be fine.

Thanks Union for the reply. I live in the U.S., so it might be a little laggy, but it’s not like we are going to engage in serious competitive matches. I am more interested in learning some techniques and tricks on getting in with Steve. Shoot me a message on Xbox if your still interested. If not, that is okay.

Your problem is the problem that any Steve player is going to face eventually. People will start wising up and stop letting you get in for free by sticking limbs out or neutral jumping. To be honest, what you need to be doing is looking to counter poke a lot. A lot of it is sticking out either crouch strong or crouch forward while buffering short ducking so that if you catch a limb you can get in and get Fox Hunt off. Steve’s method of getting in kind of requires you to out-footsie your opponents even though Steve’s footsies are bad. Another thing is knowing when to jump-in. A well timed jump-in is going to get you either an air-to-air counter hit which leads to a combo that will get you in, a jump-in combo, or your opponent blocking and you ending up in their face. A lot of it is having better fundamentals. Also, one more thing is that you should try to end your combos with ways that will keep you in their face. So if you do a midscreen juggle which is usually going to end in ducking body > ducking hook > some finisher. Make sure that the finisher keeps your close to the opponent even if you’re sacrificing some damage.
Of course, this only is the case if you run Steve first. The best way to get Steve in is to have someone like Rufus be first and bring Steve in off a tag-cancel combo. Do you have the game for PS3? I would be glad to do some mirrors.

Thanks Darkyellow for the reply. I think your advice on buffering the move while throwing out pokes is REALLY good advice especially to get your combo’s going. I will practice on that. I have been able to slowly get my combos to connect. I think one of my problems is that I am nervous that the combo will not connect and I will end up eating a big punish or wasting an ex bar, but by buffering it while using my jabs and pokes, this is eliminate the fear.

Unfortunately I only have the game for Xbox 360, but I appreciate the offer.

I think Steve just takes time and a lot of effort to get good with him. I recenlty played a match where I was in the zone with steve, utilizing the combos and also using my distance and bob/weaving to really put on good pressure. It felt great. I need to play more matches like that.
