"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

Against Dhalsim do a sweep after the LK tatsu so you can start mixing up up unless his health is low enough for the srk to kill him obviously. Use focus attack to get in more against the limbs but try not to focus the fireballs when in range of the limbs. If you can predict a fireball ex df throw can punish hard and put you in a good position. I saw that you were mashing jab when he tried to teleport next to you, it worked that match but Sim’s U2 can catch people doing that. Thats the only match I could watch now but ill try to get back to the others later.

On topic of punishing the green hand, just do everything that Sol said and if he FADCs and back dashes you can punish him with a super.

Awesome, thanks for the tips! I didnt even think about the jab mashing being punished by u2…

Ya i learned the hard way, if he doesnt have U2 I use c.HP for the most damage and if he does I jump back with LK because if you use anything else and do it too early the move will come out the wrong way and Sim’s fierce will hit you.

Man, why didn’t I think of c.HP?! Ughhh. Thanks again!

Thanks again for the help, good to know what my options are against gief’s moves.

A few matches vs a friend of mine who mains Guy:

@ LoyalSol:

I´m not sure if you remember me, but we played a few matches on the PC and you gave me some quite helpful tips. My GFWL ID was Gouki 83.

If you could take a look on the videos above and help me once more with my game, I´d appreciate it. Thanks!

I play a scrubby Akuma but…

First Vid:

  • When you get a dizzy, dont start with a FA3. Im trying to break myself of this habit too. Scaling is horrendous
  • Careful on jumping in on a Guy with meter. He has a very good Reversal, but its easy to bait with Akuma
  • If you jump back and see that Guy is already running, dont commit to the Air Fireball

Second Vid:
-If I were you, I wouldnt waste so much meter on Ex SRKs, esp in round 1 when you had a more than solid health lead.
-Dont get predictable with FA, Guy has that quick Hoz armor breaker

  • Whenever a Guy starts running at you from full screen, I like charge a FA. At that point his only option is to stop, or do a really late overhead (hits twice when close). At this point you can take your chances and go for a crumple, or time it so you
back dash -> Ultra / Super to catch him. This stuff works at low levels of play. Against a really good Guy I wouldnt do this

Third Vid:

  • He has a nasty habit of backdashing from blocked elbow drops. Try to punish with a Tatsu / Fireball (would Super / Ultra catch up?), etc.
  • If you are gonna mix up with DF, dont keep missing. It isnt really your fault though, Guy has a wonky crouching hitbox
  • Stop using meter for chip damage and doing unsafe wake up DPs

^ Thanks for pointing out my major mistakes. I wasn´t really aware of how much I waste meter on chip damage and SRKs, but after you´ve mentioned it I realized it´s something I do all the time.

I still have to work a bit more on DF mix ups vs Guy, I really tend to screw up when trying the throw. Baiting his EX Senpuukyaku is something I should try more, I think that could make him think twice before doing it on wake up.

I´ll post some more matches in the next days, this time against Adon.

Pay attention to his Flip Elbow drop. Learn to anti-air them everytime he does one over you. Once he can’t get in a hit this way, he’ll likely start throwing out some that come up short in hopes of mixing you up. If you have Ultra or Super, learn to anticipate when they come short and punish them with either. His only other option off the flip is his throw which can be tricky, but he’ll hardly rely on it for the entire match. That will basically eliminate his elbow drops for the remainder of the game, meaning you can concentrate on his only other available tool to get in; his dash. He only has two options off his dash and that’s slide or overhead. They can both be DP’d on reaction, though be carefull as he can bait you by stopping short leaving you wide open for a counter combo when you come down. Don’t FA Guy with impudence, his Shoulder Charge is armor breaking. If you like to Focus, do so from full screen if you see him dash at you. As CxJames said, his only options will be to stop dead in his tracks or go for the point blank overhead which he may not anticipate for and instead throw it out from too far allowing you to absorb the one hit only.

Once Guy has meter, you know he’s going to be looking to EX Tatsu on wakeup if you try to pressure him. Bait that by throwing a slightly early Cross-up tatsu that makes you sail clean over him or meaty DF palm, then give him your best combo as he misses and comes down - if you have Ultra or Super and he has less than half his health, you can end the round with either if he whiffs the wakeup EX Tatsu.

This is the one I really need help on, the balrog match.

I guess safe jumping would also be good against his EX Tatsu, right? I do it on the first video, at 0:49. I find the timing kinda tricky though, need some more practice on that.

Lots of problems in that vid. You need t punish jumps more. Learn how to block and punish Rog’s overhead. When you knock Rog down you can pressure him with crossup tatsu or demon flip palm strike. Learn to recognize the areas where Rog likes to TAP through fireballs. I recently fought a good Rog on Live, you can see how I pressure with DF palm in the third round. For those of you who want to see ShinAkuma204 beasting on fools, there you go! I was also lucky to have bumped into Faux123 on the 2nd night of Endless mode and I got in a few games against him as well. As for my games against Shin, I only had the heart to show you my two best matches against him… Enjoy!!

PS:

Please don’t bother critiquing my play, it’s clear I wasn’t going to measure up. I simply took the opportunity to study both these players execution and tactics in order to help my Akuma level up.

Thanks for the tips Shin, whats a good punish for overhead? Also, I noticed in that vid I kept guessing wrong as far as low/high regarding his overhead and low punch. How do you know which he’ll go for? It seems very inconspicuous to me.

You can learn to react to the overhead. It doesn’t hit as fast as his other punches. Just go into training mode and record Rog doing his various punches and just sit there and learn how to block them.

You can do a crouch jab into tatsu as a punish on the overhead but I just go for a HK tatsu.

Awesome, thanks man!

I have trouble vs Rogs myself, hope these tips might help:

  • Don’t let Rog jump-in for free, HP SRK their jump-ins or cr. HP if they’re close
  • Use focus attack more often, it’s really helpful in this match to get crumbles off Rog’s non breaker dashes and his cr. hk poke, once he starts using his breaking dashes, bait them then neutral jump so you’d be able to land a combo on his whiffed dash attack.
  • Once you have ultra 1, you should be able to punish any EX dash punch with Ultra on reaction, just buffer the jabs in cr. hk and cancel into ultra 1.
  • When you get a knockdown, pressure Rog like crazy with Akuma’s meaty demon flip palm, he has no answer to such pressure except by blocking (specially if you option selected the palm so he wouldn’t even backdash, palm breaks his ex dashes and you can block if he uses his slow headbutt reversal then punish), once you conditioned him to block on wakeup, mix him up with demon flip grab, Rog is really free for Akuma on wakeup.
  • Always lookout for Rog’s overhead dash attack, they’ll be using it for sure and you should be able to react to block correctly most of the time since it’s kinda slow, those are punishable on block, at least jab SRK them.
  • Don’t cancel a hit confirmed combo into lk tatsu if the opponent is crouching, it’ll whiff, cancel into ex fireball or ex tatsu.
  • Punish Rog’s whiffed headbutts, at the very least with sweep

Edit: misinformation, I apologize.

Isn’t the spacing for it a bit strict though? IIRC the tatsu usually whiffed when canceling into HK tatsu from max range last time I checked it in training mode, I could be wrong though since I barely ever use it.

Guys, I need your help. What do you do versus a good sim? For example me vs my friend Monikenso: z-9jwEcnwYM]YouTube - SSFIV - SpyxTEC (Gouki) vs MoniKensoTEC (Dhalsim) [2010-06-26

It’s really difficult to come into contact with him. Any tips? Thx.
