"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

With Akuma meter is a dime a dozen. If you can use it to land something then do so. Besides it isn’t like Ryu who needs 2 bars to have the threat of the ultra. Nearly all of Akuma’s options can be done without meter.

3 things. 1: Stop focusing jump-ins… 2: You need to do a lot of work on that cross-up tatsu. It seems the only time you can space it well is off throws (because its auto-spaced by a double dash). Work on spacing it consistently in other circumstances 3. random demons? why? If the opponent didn’t suck that would have repeatedly been free huge combos (including her ultra…). As for that… what is with all the random useless kara demon attempts? c.mk demon for anti-air or you might as well be mashing c.lp.

JR is a good player, but he doesn’t use his meter well. He’s obsessed with combos and gimmicks a little too much (and the super…but at least that is a worthwhile use of meter if you already have it). That being said, the example given for “bad meter use” wasn’t necessarily the best as it at least made sense to go for another FADC in a combo (though usually 4 bars isn’t worth it unless it kills or sets up a chip kill)… why mention that and not that silly fireball cancel super set-up he likes to try and scrub people out with? (has it EVER hit anyone before?). Next time you see that loyal just EX SRK and laugh. Tatsu works too but its a little riskier depending on the range at which he started it.

At loyal… while its not the same as ryu with 2 bars akuma really gains a lot from having 2 bars in the wing if at all possible… Safe SRK is just as useful to akuma as it is ryu (perhaps more to some extent as akuma can’t afford the hp lost from a missed SRK). And even more so meter is nice for akuma in super since having 1 bar to finish BnB now is actually a nice boost to the damage/stun output. Although I agree with the general idea of the comment anyhow.

@VeNOM: Good match. You’ve got a pretty nice Akuma, I’d really like to play you sometime(if the connection’s any good).

 1. I wasn’t focusing jump-ins specifically. My only experience with Makoto comes from 3S where most people I fought where grab and dash happy. I was anticipating her dash but since they come out so fast I became a little trigger happy and did them early.

 2. This I know. But I generally don’t miss them that much anymore. That one came out a split second later than I wanted, so I’ll attribute it so slight internet lag input delay.

 3. No, not random. For the 1st one I guessed (wrongly) that she was going to try a dash attack from full screen to get in on me. Who jumps in from full screen distance??? On the 2nd one, I was clearly going for the AA demon, but fucked up on the spacing. Oh… And I can’t seem to be able to get out the c.MK Demon, reliably. I am practicing it. I know the inputs. It’s just another matter during a match. On the flip side, I know I can hit the kara, so…

Keep in mind, this match was from the 1st week when I had the game. There are a lot of things in this match (and a others up on my page) that are me just trying some stuff out, like including FA’s into my strategy. Also, I didn’t really have any setups against Makoto (I still don’t for the most part). I was just winging it. Throwing stuff up against the wall and seeing what sticks. I’d appreciate it if you or anyone else could give me more SPECIFIC tactics against Makoto. My problem in that matchup is that aside from her dash attacks and grabs, I don’t know what to look for that I can use against her. I played a pretty good Makoto a few days ago and generally kept the same tactics as I displayed here and I won.

Here are a few more matches:

Against Blanka, I got really messed up in the 1st round as I was expecting him to be slide happy. Instead he was jumping all over like a crazed Mexican Jumping bean. I corrected my strategy in the next 2 rounds and he was toast. Adon however I have no strategy (like Makoto) so I played it safe. If anyone’s got some strats as to what to look for in a match or some setups that work against him, I’d appreciate it.

me playing against sabin, somebody uploaded the video :xeye:. It is the first time that i played against a very very good seth, i didnt know what to do xD.

I was surprised because i thought that we would have too much lag…Im from spain but we played “fine” (4 or 5 lines)

Put up a couple of more videos.

Heres a Gouken that I got really lucky with…http://www.youtube.com/user/Toelishness#p/a/u/1/rKE3Sz3FUFI

Next is a random T.Hawk. (Finally some revenge!)http://www.youtube.com/user/Toelishness#p/a/u/0/mFnGoaBhqp8

Heres one of Guile. I seem to have a hard time with guiles so any help is appreciated. http://www.youtube.com/user/Toelishness#p/u/4/eN-loVeEJCY

I hate watching my videos sometimes. I cant stand it when I miss BnB’s…

rush…adon…down. While I wouldn’t recommend trying to focus up close (or at all… too many armor break or double hit moves), there IS a range at which is hk will only hit once and you can crumple him. something to note I guess. As opposed to not knowing yet how to play against him, I haven’t played an adon that makes me play akum any differently. The only things that make adon really at all “Special” are dealing with his jagga toof and his jaguar kick (name?). The first is dealt with easily enough with reactionary SRK, though I’ve tried a little to find other options that will work (not very hard yet though… just in match). And his jaguar kick is easily blocked really, or SRKed if you are “feeling” it coming. Otherwise as long as you are good at teching throws I don’t see adon as being a huge problem character that you’d have to play very differently than anyone else. His rising jaguar is rather weak so you can do basically whatever on untechable knockdown. he is built around “getting around fireballs” but they can still be used to zone him to a certain extent. Just don’t catch yourself throwing fireballs often or you’ll be getting actually HIT by his jagga toofs. Take away his fangs (jagga toof) and he is left as a mid-tier character at best with kinda week combos and a slow but combo-able overhead. He does have pretty good pokes, but akuma just outclasses him at close range. Until an adon player proves otherwise there really is nothing to this match any different than the normal “knockdown, vortex, keep vortexing or look for the next knockdown.”

as for your specific match… you were afraid of him for some reason. Just walk him down until he jagga toofs at you or does something else. ITs not hard at all to react to the wall dive animation, so you should be able to walk near him to try and get into sweep range or closer and still react. Basically… just go TOWARDS him and not AWAY from him. Honestly I don’t see how adon gets damage is this match-up at any range as long as you don’t focus. hell… your dive kick beat his wall dive… obviously he has trouble mounting pressure since akuma can teleport and I’m not sure adon has any way of punishing (maybe ultra 1?).

to earlier though… trying to demon someone that MIGHT be dashing at mid screen… IS RANDOM… lol.

to Chocolo: did you not know his ultra sucked you in or did you not think it would chip you to death? Teleport away from him next time with a KKK and then teleport back towards him. The ultra gives you about 3 years to punish it.

Hmmm… Well I read it differently when I was playing. Again, my issue in that match is that I didn’t really have a clue what she can do. For example, against Balrog I can bait TAP or Headbutt with plasma and punish with Demon. Against Blanka I can reversal Demon his blocked B-Balls or slides, etc. Against Makoto? Don’t know yet. Or at least I didn’t know at the time. Other than her rush punches which come at you really fast which is why I kinda “twitched” there. I’ll have to play against some more Mak users, hopefully some that are good.

I’ll keep your advice about Adon in mind when I play against him next. Thanks.

A few more, just randoms this time. Didn’t run into any good players tonight except for one, but the match dropped halfway through the third round. Sucked too because that was the best Makoto I have seen in a while.

vs Blanka.

As a big promoter of drunken gaming as a whole, I feel your pain vs that Ken, random dp spamming seems to catch me more often too when I’m just getting past pool-drunk and into the grandiose warmth of the booze.

Not seen a “wat akooma duz in demun animashion???” thread in a while, but I’m sure it isn’t too dissimilar from your round 2 demolition of that Blanka.

vs a Makoto. Audio was low/nil cause it was late.

Do you guys ever have bad sessions? I swear it was like I picked up the game 2 days ago last night…I was getting beat by everyone last night. Not a good night at all, I lost close to 700 player points…

If you ever run into Slim18716 in your online sessions, ask him to play his Makoto against you. He’s fairly skilled with her. On another note, I’ll try to have our matches uploaed to Youtube this weekend and I’ll also throw in Bokkin’s as he’s given me the ok to upload them.

@ TheToe!: Happens all the time until you get experienced with the matchups and execution and then you start winning more than you lose.

yo guys someone please tell me if my akuma is any good.i just started using him to stand a better chance in tournaments!

Last 2 vids I want to show in this series:

First match was a pretty good one against an Ibuki user he had me running the first two rounds, but then I found his rythm and let him have it in the third, though as I said in my youtube vid description, he really should’ve won in the 2nd round. The Rog match was more difficult than it looked because I kept dropping my links and yet I was getting c. LP x 2 ~ c. MP >LK tatsu all night… This match, I couldn’t get it. Was a very laggy match. Most of the stuff I was throwing out was mad late as anything I tried on reaction was getting stuffed. The only reason he didn’t land the overhead at the end is because I saw it coming from a mile away… Still, a win against a Jabby Rog is a good win!

Some vids of me vs 2 ibuki players. First 3 are all the same guy, last vid is the other. trying to really learn all the new match-ups really fast. These fights made me realize how Ibuki can get an untechable knockdown combos easily on crouching opponents with 0 meter. I really kind of hate her, yet i’m still thinking about picking her up as my 2nd main

While watching myself play, I notice I end a lot of my combos with ex hado even though my op is standing, and those supers looked random to me, don’t even know what I was thinking lol.

Anything I did wrong or I could do better vs Ibuki?

Wild X, I only watched your first vid, and I gotta say I think you did pretty good. What I did notice though, is that you barely used teleport on wake-up, even though that Ibuki was doing (and hitting you with!) the meaty air-kunai every time. You would’ve taken a lot less damage if you’d have teleported out of that ‘vortex’ more. I also think you should try to be more aggressive against Ibuki, since her defense isn’t very good; I felt that you let her pressure you too much. There were also a couple of times where you could’ve hit her with a bnb, but you went with a (EX) fireball instead.

I’d like to upload some vids for critiques too … but don’t have recording equipment … :frowning: :P. It may actually help my game play.

If he teleported, the Ibuki could just do a Neckbreaker, and then he is in the same situation

Pretty much what DeusLucas said. You were getting pressured way too much with cross ups and it seemed that you were content with just taking it, which you paid for. Seems like you might have just started using Akuma, from like a Ryu or Ken (someone without a teleport). Akuma can’t take too many hits, thus the reason he has a teleport. Don’t abuse it, but don’t ignore it either. Getting out of pressure situations and applying pressure is what Akuma is all about.

And what’s up with the links into (BnB) “fireball”? Tatsu > SRK does more damage last time I checked, or reset.

Edit: You started playing much better after the first few matches. Well played!
