"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

Hey man welcome to the forums. Honestly, the most you can do for your game right now looks like learning when to hit tatsu when you’re in the air to actually connect with them (in the sagat match you whiffed most of them), toning down how much you use your focus, and toning down how much you jump in.

Also, when you DO land that focus, do something with a little more oomph. s.fp xx lk.tatsu > fp.srk hits way harder than just a fp.srk does, y’know?

Tone down how often you do mad unsafe stuff as well. Like, in the beginning of that sagat match you just straight fp.srk’d him–that’s fine if you have the meter to FADC out if it doesn’t hit, but otherwise, against a more competent opponent, that’s half your health gone.

So basically, the first steps are capitalizing on openings that you either make yourself or are presented to you, and playing safer to minimize those openings you give your opponent.

Starting off, imo, those are the two biggest things to learn in terms of thought-process during the match. Once you get those down, that’s when you move into learning how to force that opening to present itself to you via fucking with their head.

I haven’t really looked in detail at the videos, but I might mention you gave up a lot of free damage against the Sagat player. After connecting with a standing HK you can almost always combo against Sagat since his hit box is so freaking big. You don’t have to do the combo loop, but at least something like HK > LP > BnB will go a long ways.

Thanks Kich and LoyalSol! I’ll be sure to keep all this advice and tips in mind now when I play.

And Kich thanks for the welcoming too, SRK kinda get a bad rep for being all “serious business” but I see now everyone here’s really all about having some fun and playing some games.

Dive Kick stands opponent up on hit so, you wouldn’t have that problem provided you do the example above.

Opponents tend to be trying to block low after a combo starts. So if you miss a link in the combo, wouldn’t the light tatsu miss because they’ll automatically be crouching?

you shouldn’t be missing combos…but yeah, if you fuck up your inputs it’s more than likely that he’ll be crouch blocking and you’ll miss your lk tatsu and get raped

Yeah, that’s definitely true. But missing links is sometimes inevitable~ You can’t be 100% on point ALL the time.

Mostly what Loltima said. Also, I want to be able to have something else in my repertoire than just the one BnB combo and this one can have the benefit of letting me interupt the combo after the first or 2nd c. LP for a tick throw attempt.

As for the FB spammers, I’ll try and capture a vid of one and show you. It’s ridiculous really. Sure I can just sit back and wear them down if I wanted to. But WHY do I want to??? Do I really want to sit there for three 90 second rounds just jumping over a barrage of plasma while they jump over mine or runaway if I pressure them? Not saying that’s not a valid tactic towards the end of a round where both of us are down to 10% or less health. But from the start of a match or with a slim life-lead because you “blocked” one of his projectiles? Ugh…

On a side note, I was finally able to fix the buttons on my arcade stick and now it doesn’t give me random LP + MP inputs anymore when I press just MP (which used to emtpy my Super meter for nothing).

…to win…
people will do whatever it takes to win and please believe if i saw u trying to get past my zoning in a tourney and u couldnt, i would do it all day

this guy right here… you should listen to his words… (even if he cant Pos rep you)

Sure they block low, but that’s what a hit-confirm is for. If you’re connecting attacks after a dive kick, in the spirit of a hit-confirm, you will be fine and can combo into whatever you please. Sure you can drop a link and then they can return to crouch block but, that’s your error.

I personally like to sit back and zone a lot of the time, not only to work on my spacing but also because it’s fun and puts you in an advantageous position, provided your opponent wants to get in and you know how to throw fireballs correctly. This forces your opponent to risk a little life and position just to get in on you, at which point you can get back out or surprise him with offense of your own.

hi all

today i put my last akuma’s video on YT, i’m not so good and i need help :wonder:

i need a lot of practice…

anyway tanks for advice :wgrin:

This makes sense. Trouble is, not all of them want to risk anything and it’s all because of what’s quoted below.

I hear ya. But… Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell… I don’t know… I mean, take a look again at the videos I posted of my matches. Even the ones where I win, I’m playing Akuma all wrong. Do you mean I should just ignore everyone’s advice and “just play to win”? I can do that already, I guess… Yes, winning usually means that you did things the right way, but there’s also times when you win by scrubbing out. I want to avoid those types of wins if at all possible, hence why I’m on this thread looking for good advice.

And I’ve gotten such good advice that’s helped me a lot. I don’t want to throw it all away just for the sake of the almighty “W”.

I suppose the way I look at it is: if I stick with practicing what I’m being thaught here, eventually those losses to scrubs will turn into decicive victories.

im just suggesting you do whatever it takes to win…the rest is up to your interpretation

so wise…

WestAB is a SF SAGE. Whatever it takes to win, you say? EVEN CHEAP FIREBALL TACTICS I MEAN CMON MAN.

West’s Akuma fireballs fire in volleys of 3 in 3 different directions.

Two Loltimas. I’m confused.

even westab bullshit

Yeah fuck that
