"Critique My Akuma!" Video Blog Thread

Thanks for the comments guys, keep 'em coming~

@esaka
You are right on the not FADCing the c.mk to hado for extra damage, I will work on that in training.
On the FADC shoryu to shaku, I can only get it about 25-30% of the time. I just started learning that about a week ago and my muscle memory isn’t quite there yet. Which is why I tend to shy away from it because I don’t want to waste the two ex bars for no extra damage.

I recently swapped fight sticks also from the crappy hori small 50 dollars POS to the Hori Real Arcade Pro SA, so I am still getting used to that as well.

More comments on the different match ups are welcome, I just broke up my youtube playlist into characters for easier viewing.

BNB FADC to Shaku isn’t too worth it imo. It adds 18 damage to the combo for 2 meter–I try to find better things to do with it.

srk fadc hado is worth the added damage and stun only if you start the combo with something like s.hp xx lk tatsu, lp shoryu fadc or after a jump in with no need to hit confirm.
If you do it after the bnb it’ll get scaled to shit and won’t be worth those 2 bars unless it’s to finish/stun your opponent

I’ve always been curious about the FADC Shaku after B&B, rather than inflicting the extra 50-70 damage, why not add it to another option of Harrasment

On you’re opps wakeup go for a quick MP SRK -> FADC… If it hits you get 2 100% hits totalling 330, that’s pretty much B&B damage for 2 moves on a wake up attack that they pretty much have to be blocking at start,if they coutner poke or try to tech a throw it’ll hit, if they also SRK, yours will most likely hit. (Unless they EX) If it doesn’t hit, FADC back or forward & throw or do whatever you wish.

I’ve been curious why this isn’t mentioned more often, when i first started doing it & no one actually mentioned outside of me i started to question whether i should or shouldn’t be doing it, but i can’t find a fault with it, hell even if it doesn’t hit the Chip damage makes up for most of the B&B extensions Variation of damage.

I mean Daigo does it quite often with Ryu doesn’t he?

Here’s a question: I was continuing my online practices today and I met up with a Guile user (a whole bunch of Guile users to be exact). I lost most of them, but against one who had like 14K GP, I was able to fluster by repeatedly crossing him up and throwing him. The ironic part is that this guy’s GT was iThrow

Anyways, after the game I get a message from him saying that I only won the match because I threw an HP SRK after my demon (which he jumped over from close range) and caught him. He said that it’s impossible to throw ANYTHING after a demon and it only worked because it was online. In fact, he seemed to think that he should’ve been able to sweep me.

I checked the frame data, and yes, his c. HK should’ve have beaten me. If he’d have timed it correctly. But he couldn’t cuz he was still in mid jump. By the time he landed behind me, I was already out of the Ultra animations and we both made a move at the same time: he did c. HK (6 frames startup) and I did HP SRK (3 frames on startup).

Yeah, so my question is, was that legit? Is it something that could be done offline (with proper timing of course)?

people have the misconception that online makes the game COMPLETELY different.

the game is literally the same. 3 frame moves are 3 frames. that being said, lag spikes and input delay can cause some weird things to happen. it can make reacting to certain things a little hard but in some cases easier.

people will hate online for a long time. just know that most don’t think its a valid medium. tell him to stop taking online so seriously

check JR’s videos he catches people with SRKs after demons all the time online and off.a missed punish is a missed punish

In the end of the day i’ve had many online games that had no lag, not a single frame skip. I’ve certainly had laggy matches, & even slightly laggy matches are a pain, sometimes worse.

There are alot of reasons to hate online though

 • Anonimity
 • DC’ers/Ragequitters
 • Any gaming mechanic faults

But you can be sure that, at one point or another you’ll get someone blaming Lag for the reason they lost in a completely lagless game. OR people taunting you constantly during a laggy game or boast messaging after a win on a heavy lag game. But it’s all alot of people have at times… & i do feel the people who consistently play at the arcade, give Online alot of grief & underestimate it’s skillbase.

I’m not saying Arcade players arn’t better (They most likely are) but i wouldn’t so quickly dismiss an entire sub-section of a games fanbase.

I think online does drop frames or something funky is going on, but generally, good online play is still pretty darn good imo. There’s always that voice in the back of your head saying, “you missed that combo, fucking lag.” don’t let the voice in your head say that. It makes you whine and complain about ish all the time like I do. Just say, “damn need to work on timing.”

Yeah… Online can be funky sometimes, but it’s the best I’ve got for my situation (not many SF (if any) tourneys in Montreal QC and no friends who are good enough to play against me).

That said, here’s my match against iThrow:

I wanted to record my comments, but I had some trouble with my mic, so I put some annotations when there was something I wanted to say in the video (like whiffed moves and such). Let me know what you think.

I fought iThrow in championship mode, and sure enough – he was Guile and he kept throwing my ass. I was about to explode.

But did you win?

^venom…hit confirm…and use shaka instead of ex fb(waste-o-meter). Also sHK does wonders on guile since you can loop him.

regular dive kick stuffs the crap out of flash kick, so just abuse it and go all out
tbh guile really hasn’t got much apart from slightly better zoning

I know the theory behind “hit confirming”, but my muscle memory just ain’t there yet. Usually, I have to set up my finger positioning a few seconds before a combo, so if I whiff, I have a hard time “resetting” them back to default and that’s why sometimes random stuff comes out (like a jab after a c. HP or a shaku after a j. MK). It’ll come with more time in play.

Edit: startup & recovery on shaku is muder - spank me if I’m wrong, but if he anticipates or just jumps on reaction, I could eat a combo to my face. Not good…

Yeah, so I’ve read, but I’ve traded a few times, especially with the EX version. I guess I don’t have the distance and timing down pat yet. Normally, I probably shouldn’t care much, but with such little health left, I prefered to opt for the cautious road as I thought he was playing a bit frustrated in our match and maybe I could catch him after a mistake. It didn’t pan out in the 2nd round, but it seemed to have payed off in the 3rd and final round.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that where I used to have problems against Guile and easily beat most Cammy’s I encountered, now it’s the contrary. I have much less trouble against Guile but all kinds of issues getting through most Cammy users… I read the match up for her, and all it says, basically, is to block low and wait for chances. I can’t seem to find many of them: her hooligan combo can throw you if you stand, throw you if you jump and sweep you if you’re just out of range. DP’s usually whiff unless perfectly time or get stuffed by a throw. She can cannon drill then cannon spike almost immediately which makes punishing random drills almost impossible (and I find they’re incredibly hard to block on reaction, though maybe that’s an “online” issue).

I used to have an easy time spotting and punishing her spinning backfist, but now I seem to eat them more than stuff them… I’m also not very familiar with her wakeup game. Is there anything I should be trying against her on wakeup? The matchup says “Don’t jump in on her, just turtle and punish when available”…

you can focus the cannon drills/spiral arrows
teleport out if you get pressured
if you’re unsure on how to advance when cammy is knocked down, don’t advance; her cannon spike will probably beat/trade your cross-ups

however, you can bait the cannon spike and punish accordingly

you can SRK or simply teleport out of the hooligan combo

if you feel daring and you have spare EX meters to kill, you could do a walk up SRK on them when they wakeup; they will most likely try to go for a cannon spike but instead eat a SRK, or by the off-chance they block, you can focus out of the SRK.

demon the shit out of her hooligan combination. you can catch her mid-air.

Nice vid Venom - I left a comment on it for ya, but after reading everyone elses comments mine might seem redundant. Nice match though I enjoyed it

Hey guys,

I fella recorded a match I had with him the other day so thought I might get some advice. Critique away

Low Forward Demon is one of the coolest things to do on hooligan, not that a good cammy is going to throw random hooligans, though.

Took to the air way to much against Chun. She is one character that is hard to jump in on especially when she has EX. That Chun didn’t use her normals to space as much although that may just be due to the fact she didn’t need to.

I did note you dropped quite a few combos there, that is a lot of damage that you missed out on.
