Creed (New Rocky saga)

[details=Spoiler] The feels hit hard as fuck in Creed. I mean HARD.

Little Duke is is his son in there training andre ward

Watched the movie couple of days ago and it is really good even though I went in thinking it would suck.
The strengths of that movie lie in Jordan’s physical acting, Stallone’s performance and how well the boxing scenes are shot and how engaging they are.

Now it was weak on the plot side of the whole thing.

[details=Spoiler]I never really understood why Johnson wanted to follow his father’s footsteps and why he wanted to fight since from an age of 8 on the boy had a carefree life.
I didn’t feel any real struggle there I could relate to.
Would’ve like them to expand on Adonis’ feeling of being unwanted at home, since his whole backstory of being raised by a woman that was married to his infidel father would’ve given room to her being abusive or mean-spirited to him to pay his father back or some shit. You know make us feel what he is feeling and why he wants to break out of his golden cage.

Also the female cast was mostly useless in the film. They establish that she’s going deaf and being a musician. Now I see the connection of doing a job you can’t do forever because they love what they’re doing, but they never expanded on that and there was zero character development on her side. In the original Rocky we had a formerly talented boxer who went the safe route instead of going all-out on his dream, and a woman who did the same thing: Instead of going out enjoying her life she took the safe route and took care of her retarded brother, because she was afraid of going out and taking what’s hers.
In the end both find the courage to take on the struggle and thus they strengthen each other in their passion.
Now in Creed Bianca doesn’t do anything aside from looking pretty and we basically got 2 good-looking characters who want to hump each other.

Then the whole shit about stepping out of his father’s shadow and then everyone tells him to step into his father’s shadow by taking his name and wearing his shorts…
Dunno about that either. [/details]

Dunno maybe something went over my head there and you’re welcome to explain to me why these plot choices made sense in that kind of movie.
The whole Creed legacy shit and the love interest felt shoehorned into the movie to me and I wish they’d had written a slightly better plot.
Those points are easily upset by the rest of the film though. Very good buildup to the finale, amazing synergy between Stallon and Jordan, lots of fun scenes and amazing boxing choreography and choice in music for the most part.

Anyways I’ve taken up the film into my favorite Rocky movies list:

  1. Rocky
  2. Rocky Balboa
  3. Creed

All the other movies are total piles of crap even though I enjoy them as a guilty pleasure, but those are the only movies I’d recommend to friends.

Tony Burton died today

Sad news.

I hate this year so much right now.

It’s a shame he neither had a role in or watched Creed. In better health he would’ve added some more flavor to the film as he was always a tatical no-nonsense kind of guy.

R. I. P.

Shit just posted that in the lounge, yea RIP he is as iconic as Rocky imo, although they shafted his legacy in the last movie with getting some sketchy lookin punk to be his son then write the character off immediately after.

Don’t hate on Avon

The original movie is still better.
