CPSII roms, amazement yet confusion?

I’ve searched the net trying to find an answer but couldnt find one specifically for this.

So recently I acquired a Wii console with the SD card and all the roms, emulators etc such as Retroarch which included the final burn alpha and had the Capcoms CPS1, 2 & 3 on there.

To my amazement xmen vs streetfighter played flawlessly, and same with the other capcom fighters. I was unsure whether it was my eyes because I can’t understand why people are paying a lot of money for games and consoles (yeah I understand the collecting , real feel of the hardware…)

The reason I ask this is because I just forked out over a £100 for a few capcom fighters for the sega saturn (plus an action replay cart).

So do these roms/emulators have any glitches or any considerable amount of difference to warrant me playing the real deal instead of these? I understand these are emulated from Capcoms arcade games but I assumed that they would be of lower quality?

So basically what I’m asking is ; do any of the classic capcom fighters (or any other fighters for that matter) play any lesser quality or speed than they’re best console version (ie the saturn/dreamcast) ?

As the titles suggest; amazed but scratching my head somewhat.

Well, Primal Rage for example could never be emulated perfectly. No blood, no fatalitys, and some other stuff. ATARI did some wacky encryption for that game. As far as capcom goes… they look the same as a cabinet to me.

Probably the wrong forum.

If the emulation plays good enough for you to enjoy the games, have at it. It is the collectors of actual arcade hardware and those few remaining competitive players who will notice a difference in how the game plays. This is why CPS2 arcade boards have seemingly increased in price overnight.

STFU and take a walk

When searching for roms on the net; such as the CPS roms they vary in size anywhere from a few mb all the way to nearly a gb. I tried playing warzard/ red earth through several emulators but no luck :S , apparently the wii is not very good at supporting the cps3?

I was more than happy obtaining all the fighting games (roms) for the snes/super famicom and neogeo/neogeoCD as these would be wayyyy to expensive to buy seperately.

I’d like to hear if anyone has anymore info on the capcom fighters through emulation vs the best console port

Po we know it’s you.

Lol. Who the hell is Po?

Like I say any input is appreciated if you know much about these emulators vs best consoles

I did some reading on CPS 1 II [there was even a CPS II “DASH”]and III systems and it seems to be that theyre perfectly emulated. Capcoms seceurity systems were reverse engineered so hard that even boards that were disabled by their suicide batterys can be restored. If someone tried to fuck with or pirate a board, capcom had a system were the board pretty much kills its self. Youd then have to send the board to capcom with some $$$ to get it restored. So yup, emulation seems 100%. Just be sure to play the games on a CRT with scanlines turned on :stuck_out_tongue:

IIRC, CPS3 is emulated at a slightly different clockspeed than the original hardware. Not sure if this has already been addressed.

Thanks guys I appreciate all the input. Clears a lot of confusion I had.
