btw- i don t know if its still around but i proposed putting people in lil “kareoke” boxes before evo2k4 began, it was hated on but i ve always felt this way ever since i came back from korea, i guess others don t think into it as much as i have…o well.

i m not gonna argue, if its not doable then its not doable, can t set up only couple, everyone will wanna play on it and hold shit up(mrwizard’s statement), i just thought srk would feel differently about it this year since 3s is console this year, and console h2h is more doable than arcade h2h

what we REALLY NEED are helmets with personal LCD Screens and headphones and then we need to put both players in a hyperbolic chamber so they won’t be affected by anything other then the game.

This setup is better in everyway, I refuse to play, or rather, I might only bitch about, playing any other way.

Well… if you use 2 TV setups, both with at least 2 audio/video jacks, you can buy a video and audio splitter for like $3-5 each at Radio Shack. Just place the console between the TVs and make sure they have long enuff cords and you have a H2H setup, sort of. At TS5, we did that for crowd control during CvS2 final 16 matches so every could see what was going on without having to sit in each other’s laps.

I can’t even read this whole thread. American SF is surely dead. Sorry, but ol skool American style play is a lot more intense for the reasons that have been listed. Hell, what next? Tell the crowd to shut up when Daigo does something hot so that he won’t be distracted?

Simply put, if you have problems concentrating, that’s your problem. Why should others lose their natural advantage of self-composure? This is competition. If I do a fireball motion and nothing comes out and you jump? You deserve it. It’s a lot deeper with regard to discerning what will happen next as opposed to merely watching a screen.

If someone can watch your hands WHILE playing, that player is BETTER than you are. It’s that simple. They can play without looking at the screen. Can you? Probably not.

Fuck, SF is NOT golf, pussies. Head to head eliminates the most intense mindgames these games have to offer. Head to head is fun but, it is a simplified version of American SF. Kinda cuts the whole analysis aspect in half. Less to pay attention to. These things are what individualize playstyles.

This shit isn’t just for players that can’t focus unless there isn’t any distraction. Evo should be for the BEST of the best. Why dumb it down/

Because they can’t. They want to balance things out between themselves and better players. They’re screaming 'fairplay" but they are promoting handicaps for those less able to maintain composure. It’s bs. Sure, we accommodated the Japanese but, we were praised for our psychological game and THAT’s what’s been honed in the states. It would be a different ballgame if we actually got to sit next to our Japanese opponents. Anyone that’s hung out with them knows this, I’m sure.

It is a different game but, folks are trying to pass an inferior SF experience off as a superior and more fair SF experience when it’s anything but.

b. this isn t even a issue, but some of you are bringing this up as one of my points so i ll address it for the last time just to make it clear.
the crowd isn t a distraction, why? don t jump on me just yet, let me explain.
do they control the game? do they have a joystick in their hand? EXACTLY. who the fuck counts? the player, not the crowd, why would the crowd be distracting? my opponent is the one i have to face, what he does or sees makes a difference, the crowd is whatever.

c. think of even the most STUPIDEST SCRUBBIEST situations where its crucial to know if theres a input or not, on american set up, you have physical evidence to help back up what your already assumming, whereas h2h set up you come to rely on the exact details of the game, nothing to help you, nothing to support you, only knowledge of the game.

SRK’s definetion for “Scrub” is someone who refuses to learn more about the game, then by that definition you, APOC, a KNOWN high calibur player…are a scrub, why? cause your statements point towards you refusing to learn more about the game to win, your wanting something outside the game.

kofiend: Regardless of what people are saying, you seem hell-bent on ignoring the primary reason using H2H for Evo is a bad idea: logistics. H2H is much easier when you have a bunch of Japanese cabinets, but Evo is on console. That means double the TV’s, double the systems, double the power strips, double the space needed if you want to achieve the same level of efficiency.

This is much like Everdred’s push for holding single elim tournies just because the Japanese do it. Like FMJ said, you’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist. Making things more difficult for tournament organizers is just about the last thing you want when trying to save the scene.

you know what? american scene is dying, its time to pull off a playstation and do quantity over quality, but i hope this is considered in the future if the community ever gets restored to even half of what it was(which it just might, with the availability of information, media and new releases on the next gen systems, there IS exposure).

H2H makes playing easier. Of course most will like it. Most players would seem better if all tourneys were H2H because there is less to separate the good from the scrub.

I need something more. The psychological aspects on the matches are the most crucial to me. Knowledge of the game comes with experience. But in this way, those that had the most time to practice would always win. That isn’t fair. Some don’t have time or are willing to waste that much time on video-games. So, you want to eliminate the naturally talented players? Weak. I’d rather win because I’m good and I out-thought my opponent. It’s kinda easy vs. a screen. There’s no personal “real fight” shit goin’ on. It’s like…competition without the pressure.

Seriously, it’s no wonder that some want to relieve mental pressure to make playing easier but, more is lost in that way. I’ve played on both and playing a screen makes it elementary, psychologically. Just react to what you see.

I prefer the Jedi way. I don’t care how my opponent fakes me out. I don’t always trust my eyes, they can deceive me.

Also, if a human isn’t within 3feet or so, all of your estimations become guesses instead of actually knowing.

Games are to similate fighting without injury, for fun. Yo, in a fight, you can see the demeanor of your opponent. You want to remove the fight from the fight.

You can have that shit. It’s shit like this that is making SF seem like nothing special anymore. Ppl try to take the special out of it.

It’s a preference. I was merely challenging the notion that h2h is a deeper level when you clearly have less to think about. I was really meaning to comment on that particular aspect of your post.

Truthfully, I’ve only played a few times this year but, I’d hate to think that someone had an advantage over me simply because they had more spare time on their hands. That’s why I’m more into the mindgames than the precise calculations. I don’t see the challenge there. It’s just simple math. That’s why I’m not the type to buy mooks. I like them but, I’d rather my characters be of my own design rather than cut and pasted like most players nowadays. If I needed to know frame rates to discover a link, then I have issues with timing but my math is fine. With timing, I don’t need to care about the frames.
