Couple of questions about recording vids:

  1. Are there any ways to link to a television using a laptop to directly record whatever off the tv to the comp memory…and if so with what programs/accessories?

  2. If the above is not possible…what programs would I need to not only run MvC2 onto my LT but also the programs to record said vids and how (I already know about FRAPS but have no damn clue what I’m going to do with it)?

Sry if this thread seems very n00bish…I’m new to this type ov stuff and want to know as much as possible for the projects I plan on doing next year…

The problem is that your TV will only output to one thing…it’s screen.

This leaves the choice of using some sort of camera to record the TV screen or splitting your output, so an AV cable with multiple outputs or a switch box…here in the UK most decent console scart cables have an additional set of composite outputs for use with lightguns and stuff, or you can feed it into a scart switch box that has multiple outputs.

So you have the choice of recording via a camera or splitting your output, if you split the output you can hook it up to various equipment (dvd recorder, TV card in a PC, DV camera…anything that can record), personally I use a dvd recorder then play back the recorded dvd to the parts I want and capture that onto my laptop via a USB tv card.

So that’s the hardware involved…software wise there’s loads of different options, the easiest is probably to just use windows movie maker, you can capture and/or edit with the one program and get some really nice results, very user friendly.
