Could anybody assist me in getting GGPO to work?

I’ve tried to get it to work on 3 occasions. First time, someone just told me to get on install GGPO and get on it, should take 2 minutes. Didn’t take 2 minutes, couldn’t log on whatsoever. Followed the instructions and things were going right up to the point where where it was supposed to log on but couldn’t happen. 2nd time I put more of an effort and read some tech threads in the GGPO forum. Couldn’t get it to work and by this time 2df was becoming popular so I just played 2df. 3rd time, blah.

So, would somebody be kind enough to be on AIM and answer questions or help me out in getting GGPO to work? I’m quite interested more so than ever to use that client right now.

Just one thing of relevance, I’ve tried to open my ports for approximately on and off 3 years or so now and never got it to work. Read quite a few internet guides and such. If someone could guide me to opening my ports if its even possible at all to open MY ports, then that’d be helpful too and might solve the problem.

I could help ya.

One thing about opening ports - it can be frustrating and not all routers are user friendly. I suggest getting a free software firewall, say like comodo - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ - and putting your PC on the DMZ instead. That way your ports are open and what traffic is allowed is controlled by the software firewall, something that is easier to deal with. (though theoretically not as safe)

well, only if you play CPS3 a lot…Otherwise, I would totally reccomend GGPO as it doesn’t have ANY button lag and CPS2/1 runs better on GGPO. Button lag is crucial in fighting games, it completely destroys the purpose of timing. 1frame input lag is still very crucia in a heated match, just ask magman. I’m hoping for some improvements on third strike on GGPO though, it always messes up the screen on loadup which is annoying.

If you can’t install it, maybe GGPO isn’t the worst of your problems.

Did you get it working ? I’ll lend a hand if you still need it but, it will have to be later on tonight after I get off work. All my IM sevices = djfrijoles

fuck you buddy! who the fuck are you to badmouth Ponder’s work (on his own website too)?
if you can’t get your head around the quality of GGPO: Capcom licensed it, instead of nFBA + p2p kaillera which 2DF is based on.

just use whatever you like and shut the fuck up.

go on aim, my aim is djjones2180

i can help you… i wanted to try out sfa2 for a bit tonight so i installed GGPO and got my ports set up in no time

For once I agree…

Now if only you would see the light and start playing A3 over A2. j/k

3rd Strike is laggy as shit on ggpo. fuck that. And to the people with no life that take the time to negative rep people…

At Ease Loser

yah, input lag is a no no.

GGPO is great but I wish he would get rid of the requirement for Adobe Air. I simply cannot install it :sad::sad:

Because CPS-3 emulation isnt anywhere near as developed as CPS-1, CPS-2, or Neo-Geo emulation. Besides, 3rd Strike fucking sucks and GGPO plays all the good games way better then 2DF.

I wonder if you all could help me help my friend get GGPO working. His OS is Vista. He installed adobe air and GGPO in that order and opened the correct ports. I know this for sure because he pointed his webcam at his screen while I talked him through it. I also sent him the proper rom files for KOF 98 and 02’ since that’s what we plan to play. Well, everything was set up and he logged in. But if he tries to initiate, accept or spectate a match, nothing happens. No errors no nothing. So I have no idea what’s going wrong. We’ve tried to install both applications and reinstall them. I’ve also directed him to download older versions of adobe air thinking that would fix the problem, but to no avail. Does anyone else have a suggestion as to what we should do?

same damn thing is happening to me lately, im running GGPO on vista and i cant challenge or accept challenges from anyone, and when i accept nothing happens, so can anyone help me on this? y already tried to uninstall it and install it again, i also opened all the ports and everything and still dont work. help please.

One this thats been happening lately is that I connect to a player but then my game desyncs every single time. All that I can do when connected to a player is press ‘T’ to chat. Pressing F3 like 10 times helps me stay connected to them, but it never used to be like this.

My OS is Windows 7.

aight, i was having the same problems, im on vista too, i installed everything just like you are saying and still couldnt play, i was able to log on, on GGPO but i was not able to play or watch any match, so this is what you need to do, you need to stop the auto system update for windows, to do this go to,
Start
Control panel
Security
Windows update
and then change settings, use this option: download updates but let me choose whether to install them or not.

once you do that, you need to fix your your HOST FILE (there is a trojan malware affecting your connection status) to fix it do this:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Entry.aspx?name=SettingsModifier%3AWin32%2FPossibleHostsFileHijack&threatid=1758608427027806866

save and try GGPO again, i did it and it works, now i can play GGPO again.
hope it helps you.

^What exactly is the Host File?

Hey E, on Vista, do you experience any bad framerate or lag/stuttering while playing in windowed mode?

not really, it runs very smooth, and that how i play in window mode.

I’m surprised this old thread is still going.
