Could a ST be made like Third Strike On-lIne and if so would you buy it?

This is so much true. I call them “confirm fighters,” cos that’s really what they are all about. And it is not really “nowadays,” it is since A1, really. For instance, one checks even tournament matches of 3S, and when something happens, it is always one of two things: option-select parry paid out or target combo/cr.short x2-3/far cr.forward hit and was confirmed (and it almost always is). As for another example, some of those SF EX games were not really bad, mostly, confirm BS aside. The point is, it is just everywhere: not only you can cancel any special into any super, but one can also use CC/VC-like combos, which - for a change - are even stronger than supers themselves, and what could be an OK game was ruined. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing this SF4 getting played and having heard that ridiculous Ono guy saying the game was “based on Super SF2 X/Turbo” and that they had “learned from the EX series mistakes,” and the first thing I learn about the game is that one can cancel the recovery of a Shoryuken. The second one, we would have higher focus attacks being unblockable. OMG! I recall it as if it was today when I played EX, using Ken, and some Ryu used a Shoryuken and I blocked. Then as I was preparing to punish it, boom: shinkuu tatsu.

laughs I actually commented the first time I played SFIV that it reminded me of a hybrid of 3S, SFII and SF EX in particular, but you’re right the similarities to EX are even more striking when I think about it again.

Totally anecdotal I know, but Seth Killian also told me he had to fight hard to get as much of the “SFII-ness” he could into SFIV.

Anyway, this is a bit of a thread derail, but Shari and Blitzfu have already answered the thread anyway

i don’t know, to cross-platform a game, i think you would have to go with one of the older engines. you don’t want to over complicate things with a new engine and cross-platforming. also, nothing made in the past 5 years (mainly sf4) would really work since they would be already outdated by the time something like this was finished if they aren’t already outdated now. ST on the other hand is timeless. any of the new generation consoles will most likely have some sort of ST release anyway, so why not build a cross-platform version now. update the graphics and give it the best possible netcode whatever that may be and that’s that. no need for new backgrounds, costumes, or characters. ST can stand on its own as is. clean up any bugs and quirks of course, but none of the foo-foo stuff is necessary. people are building their own ST cabinets ffs. people would pay 5 bucks a month to always have someone to play ST with that had good netcode.

I would say pay to play isn’t the best, but everything free would be the best.

If you look at the success of league of legends their model would probably be the best bet, although it kills any competitive scene haha

pay to play would be best if it always had the best possible netcode and its own servers. also, i hope there isn’t any input delay like the ps3 version of remix on the sf3 online. don’t know if i’m out of place for saying so, but kind of on topic.

Nah, it matters. I had some monitor lag from playing ST on GGPO and it was rougher for me to get used to the timing than 3S. Granted ST isn’t exactly my main game, but the lag was so not fun. haha

I really didn’t have much of a problem with the PSN netcode for HDR really. I think a patch that boosts the speed, and fixes the bugs would be great. I mean capcom should give money to patch the game I mean this is the 20th anniversary of SF2, so why not just release a patch that fixes the bugs, gives a true classic mode with the backgrounds and the music, and well that makes online better.

The online in HDR is gdlk compared to SSFIVAE, MVC3, and MK.

hit confirming still plays a pretty significant role in st. you don’t end a combo with a punishable special unless you know they aren’t blocking. st and 3s are king.

Go back to sirlin.net you tool.

moocus, I’m so psyched for 3rd Strike online. If you could school me in that game when it launches and teach me how things are done there that’d be awesome. I have some good experience with the game but I’m no where near the level I’m at in ST.

3rd Strike should have went w/ a remix mode…Did not care for this game when it came out didn’t care for either after the Daigo parry…

I don’t know if remixing solves that game’s problems. It was difficult for me to go from SF2’s sublime cast to SF3’s mostly throwaway roster. I did enjoy Dudley & Hugo though. There’s something about playing as Andore that never gets old.

i actually like the netcode for HDR. it’s the ps3 input lag that’s killing me. i can’t do two srks in a row on the ps3. on the xbox, no problem. on the ps3, after my first srk he’ll either throw a fireball, or just stand there and do two jabs depending if i do a full swing or not. my first input just doesn’t register.

in an online match, i threw a fireball to bait a jump in and intended to followup with an srk. the ps3 didn’t register my forward input for the srk so my guy ends up just standing there and throwing two jabs and then i get kicked in the face and lose the match. pisses me off and i can’t afford to have my old xbl setup right now.

Ba ha ha jiggly.

Anyways most specials and some supers are safe in st, so you don’t really have to hit confirm.

In 3s a lot are varying levels of unsafe, making hit confirming much much more important

That’s not input lag. That’s inputs being dropped, which I haven’t experienced with HDR (PS3 or 360) besides when I was using my adapter with a Dual Shock 2. (Strangely enough, it seems fine with a Dual Shock 3, even though I bought a brand new DS2.) In fact, motions for moves should be one of the few things that isn’t negatively affected by input lag.

I’m also betting right now that Third Strike Online Edition will have at least 1 frame of extra input lag above the arcade version on PS3, if not more, because Capcom doesn’t seem to know how to make PS3 games without input lag.

release date

and dlc

jesus christ capcom your killing us with the wait :frowning:

Net work quality causes input dropping. In emulated versions, slows machines can also cause it due to being unable to handle the copies running in the background. This last part should not happen in console, as it is a relatively powerful platform and should be adjusted so as to run a number of copies that it will always handle. Still, this is an issue with higher latencies, in which case GGPO still outperforms Capcom’s or Backbone’s net code. I assume it is Backbone’s: Capcom games come with POS netcode, while HDR’s is basically the best one available for consoles, atm. At least when it comes to fighting games.

As for input lag in PS3, it is basically lazy design by the softwarehouses, which make games for XBox 360 and simply port it to PS3 when it is mostly complete. In case I ain’t mistaken, there are games for which the opposite has happened, and the result is the XBox version has lag. If I was a 3rd Strike player, I’d be asking daily “Will the PS3 version be a rushed port from the X360 one” at Capcom Unity. I wouldn’t give them peace. Have no doubt: the PS3 lag is Backbone’s fault, together with Capcom, which should have checked the game for such obvious issues. By the way, I wonder if they couldn’t just fix the CCC version, identifying the source of the input lag.

But I won’t take this bet against you: I expect the worst.

jiggly: i might have taken you off my friends list since we never really play. i’ll send a request over soon so we can play the other best fighting game ever made. hopefully with the best netcode ever made.

would it be a good idea to make a 3s matchmaking thread for st guys?

edit* probably not, i guess

Excuses excuses…

yeah, that’s what i meant. with lag, the move would just come late. anyway, the drops are coming because according to the ps3, i’m inputting the moves too soon and it only registers the latter part of what i’m trying to do. nonetheless, the ps3’s version ain’t right and there’s plenty of srk’ers who would attest to this.

is that some sort of weak ass challenge?
