im not sold on that. wasnt the limit raised for hdr. why not include the old BGs. huge oversight.
So much truth in this post. To some people, the only ‘true’ SF2 is CPSII hardware on a Japanese arcade cabinet.
The limit was raised from 100 to around like 250MB or something. There wasn’t enough room at the time for the old BGs.
Pretty sure the game is like 300MB, that’s probably what they raised it to.
Something around there. I know the PSN version is bigger.
you almost hit the nail on the head. this is the exact reason why they should make an ST online like 3SO. first of all, people would buy it. ST with ggpo for fifteen bucks and all those sweet options that 3SO has is a no brainer. secondly, they would have a foundation for the next gen console to release right away. new generation playstation/xbox ST release would not only sell with little or no further development, but would also allow for capcom to gauge future fighting game releases on the new consoles. this would be a very lucrative endeavor selling the game not only on the current consoles, but then later selling the same exact game on the new consoles in the future. i still wonder what if they had remixed 3S first, would we be getting an arcade perfect ST online here this summer?
These games are all digital, it’s not like they can’t easily make them work on the new console ffs.
true to an extent. i think it was chensor that told me that sf2’s code is stacked. while they were making the game, it was still early in creating games so instead of starting with scratch each time, they just wrote code over code. so by the time ST came around, what should only be so much information is really a hodgepodge of all sorts of mumbo jumbo. in a new game, they could easily change a move’s damage output, reach, hitting frames, etc. in sf2 however, changing one of those things could completely change it for 3 different characters or something like that. supposedly the overall code is a nightmare. it is the first fighting game that had revisions, but each revision wasn’t done like the way things are done now.
It would have killed 3S completely in the US, and considering the time it took to make HDRemix from just the sprites alone, 3SO would still only be like 1/4 done by now.

It should have this.
I’d rather have Anniversary Edition. I don’t care how unbalanced it is. It’s fun and I’m completely burnt out on ST/HDR. It has really good music, too.
Vamp Sav or CvS2
IMHO
now if capcom had half a brain and a real set, they would take ST (or maybe hyper fighting) and:
-
upgrade the graphics.
-
add the same features as 3SO.
-
use the best possible netcode.
-
make it cross-platform.
-
have it as a free download.
-
give it its own server.
-
charge by month/year for online service.
this would definitely revolutionize the community, make them a lot of money, and put them as undisputed champs.
for those of you who aren’t following, i’m saying make ST (or hyper fighting) a universal fighting game for all platforms (old and new) that you can have for free. where they would make their money is by charging to play online much like arcades of old. i would easily pay 10 bucks a month for something like this. they’d still make a killing at 5 a month (60 a year). the thing is is it’ll never become outdated. there is no loss from used games, no need for revisions/updates and they basically get people to pay the price of a new game for the same game every year from here on out. any time anyone buys a new console or computer, they download the game, pay their online dues, then start playing. you could always play the same people, have the same friends as long as you pay your dues and keep the same handle. it wouldn’t matter what platform you are using.
now this isn’t something that can be done within a year or two, but i’m sure that it can be done. if they started now, it would probably be ready by the time the next generation of consoles come out. not only would they be making money, but they would have the foundation of technology to cross-platform other games as well. cross-platform games are happening now, capcom should step it up and do so with ST (or hyper fighting) and be prepared for the future.
am i the only one that loves 3s?
All those 3S extras are awesome but its missing something, actual good characters to play…
Any SF2 release im going to buy, anything after SF2 not wasting my money…
The only way your going to make ST purist happy is if Capcom release a CPS2 online version…All these extras are nice & all but i play for the competition…
Rcaido I agree with you man. I thought the characters were boring and the whole concept are parrying seem to take away zoning and such. I know that is another debate which has been going on for ages. I’ll still pick it up because I love fighting games and there is a possibility I might get decent at it. I just dont have time to go to arcades anymore so if playing on-line is where it is at for the casual gamer then I’ll support it.
Staying on topic I really hope this games turns out really well with the all the features they are implementing. I also hope they can revist darkstalkers, alpha, rival schools and some of the other great capcom games.
Only time will tell.
I agree, it’ll be cool if the game’s potential success will convince Capcom to try revisiting past franchises. I need me a followup to Project Justice… ;(
yeah, i don’t know about any old sf2. hyper, super (with turbo enable), and ST. other sf2s are way too slow. as for 3, i’m pretty jazzed about this release. by the time 3 came out, the arcade scene around here was dying so there wasn’t anyone to play. i don’t even know if i’ve ever seen a 3S cabinet. any sf between hyper til 3S with good netcode is fine by me. basically, anything other than easy-input-slow-down-7-frame-reversal-because-i-don’t-want-to-practice bs. i just hope they take care of it instead of dropping it after 1 patch like they did remix.
You know, I haven’t ether. I’ve seen tons of New Generation and a few 2nd Impacts but never a 3S machine. I think I’ve only found like 1 ST machine too (TONS AND TONS of WW, Championship and Super though ).
As for the “Hit it and quit it” methodology of patching XBL/PSN releases, it will probably continue. HF never got any real fixes (I’ve never seen a changelog anyways), HDR got one when it needed two, and MvC2 only got one (from what I hear it needs another as well).
krknight - it’s funny, we have some really different views but I came to the same conclusion that a free-to-download but pay-to-pay “Subscription Fighter 2” is exactly the model I would be using too if I was Capcom. You’d need to support it, patch it, and even perhaps add the odd new background, costume, character etc from time to time. Sadly these days, even if anything like this did get made, it would probably be based on the combo-focused ‘hit confirm fighter’ model of almost all fighting games these days, rather than the SF2 style of gameplay, so I’ll probably be outta luck whatever.
