Cosmetics: Small touches that you think will make the game better but won't affect gameplay

@CM: matter of tastes i guess

I mean, i find SFV far from perfect as now… imho there are some ridicolous choices (to the point of being errors) in the color and in some case 3D model departments

But i still like it more than GG, and thanks to gods is’nt KI (even if i bet many find it good)

I agree, new stance(and animations) is awesomeness… a middle way between matador and flamenco/tango

A cool touch was if they change no-claw stance into his classic “boxing” stance

I keep forgetting to mention this. I want Capcom not to make half-assed moves like they did in SF4. Examples are Rose’s projectile, Super and Soul Reflect moves and Sakura’s Jump Smash move. They so made those moves incomplete when compared to their Alpha 3 counterparts. In Alpha 3, Rose’s projectile and Super push the opponent backwards before the actual projectile hits them and her Soul Reflect gives the reflected projectiles the added effect that they travel across the entire screen even if the original projectile doesn’t (Chun-Li’s fireball, for instance, would travel across the screen until it hits you or disappears in the corner when reflected via Soul Reflect). As for Sakura, her Jump Smash would let her use projectiles as a spring board. Now, I know that these affect gameplay, but they are mostly cosmetic changes in that the moves were mostly made that way to add to their style points.

All of that style was gone in SF4 moves. I’m thinking they were trying to make the Ultras be the eyecandy material. Let’s hope that’s not the case in SF5, although I’m already feeling that way, seeing as how the Critical Arts look like a lot of time was spent on them. Too bad, it didn’t take away the goofiness of most of them.

I don’t mind the arms/torso - they work. But with that upper body stance the legs just look awkward. Not flamboyant in a stylish way, but more like someone’s trying too hard and will end up stumbling on his own feet.

As you mentioned, these do affect gameplay. Giving Rose’ Soul Spark a pushbox like in the Alpha series would move her up in the tier list. Same thing with making reflected projectiles lose their duration.

id be a sucker and pay for CVS2 UI 100% but I don’t think it’s gonna happen

vega is the definition of trying too hard, lol. i think that suits him

Firing up that game was like walking in to an arcade. It assaults yours senses. Its great.

Damn, I wish it was available on 360/PS4.

I’d pay for themes from old games. The London stage theme from CvSnk 2 as DLC for the London stage in SFV? Yes please

Speaking of Vega they really fucked up making him in SFV visual traslation

The new costume is ok

Face in SF4 was spot on: long, kinda bored crazy and a lil bit feminine

SFV Vega is a strange Di Caprio on roids

Also brown/reddish hairs a la SF2/SF4 was a variety touch for the current cast, as it will be the only one… instead they chosen #34 blond character

Sometimes is like if at Capcom there is’nt a designer dude who go around, watch things like Ken’s face and ask “WTF is this shit bro?”

On the other hand as animations Vega is awesome

True. I only hope they put some effort into the characters’ moves so that they both look and feel good to pull off.

Anyway, quick wake-up animations that fit the characters’ personalities would be awesome instead of the same generic animation for all the characters. I like, for example, how Birdie just slides on his lazy ass to rise. A perfect depiction of his slacker character! Now if they only did the same with Bison… He shouldn’t have to tire his arms to stand up off the ground, the boss can simply teleport into his standing animation! Same with Dhalsim if they put him in. They actually have him do that in Alpha 3 if you press 3P to recover in the air. Man, that game had everything right aesthetically!

Overall I’d say the sound. The sound sucks in general. Music, voices, sound effects, pretty much everything.

I really hope they change the sounds of the things going on outside of the actual fight sound effects. I hate the “laser”-ish, if that is the right word, sound of everything. From the “Round 1 - FIGHT!” stuff going on/off screen with that sound, to the sound of the bars filling up, which completely remind me of SFxT and the gem sounds, which were also terrible.

The announcer is also terrible. Music so far is forgettable. After playing the beta for pretty much every time it was available, in all regions, I can’t even hum the tune of any levels in my head right now because they are all just so forgettable.

The voices are weak too. Aside from the terrible english speaking foreign characters, which is in and of itself so stupid, some of the voices on moves don’t pack that “umph” like I wish they did. When I look back to SF2 and think about how Ryu and Ken both yell “SHORYUKEN” it just sounds powerful and fierce. I don’t get that feel anymore in the sound.

I’m a bit torn on the sound of the hits/blocks though. I think the sounds of the hits sound pretty damn weak, but I think i do like the sound when blocking. Again going back to SF2, the sound on a fierce punch or a sweep just sounded like it hurt. I don’t get that feeling at all in this game. When I was doing Ryu’s combo of Solar Plexus, cr.FP, EX.SRK, the sound on all those hits, all being fierce hits, just doesn’t sound like it hurts. Although I do like the way the EX SRK hits, it’s pretty dramatic with the pause between the two hits, so I do like that.

I also hate the loud “ding” sound that is in the beta right now when you make menu selections, at least the one that comes up when you get the 2100e error message and press OK. It’s so high pitched it just irritates me.

It would also be cool if they have more stage interactibles at the end of rounds. That is just a nice fun touch, and so far we just have them going into the bus, the restaurant, or into the spaghetti bowl.

Current announcer and how he handles his stuff is very disappointing. Sure Capcom has advertised how SFV is return to series’ roots but come on… it sounds more Tekken’s bland and boring design compared to stuff we’ve had past all these years.

Disappointment is even higher after I think about ones we’ve had in Alpha 3, 3rd Strike, IV and CvS2.

I think the issue with the SFX stems from the fact that there’s more emphasis on treble than bass. This was also the case in SFIV. Listen to the SFX from KI arcade or snes versions and they sound brutal, even jabs sound like they hurt a lot. That’s because each hit is paired with a good use of a deep bassy thud. In SFIV and V, attacks sound less blunt and more…whip-like than anything. Whip without the lash. It really isn’t hard to fix the issue, a sound designer could tweak this in a matter of hours…

I definitely agree with that, but a major reason they did that back in the day was because arcades were loud and they wanted their games to stand out among all of the noise going on. Back in the day I don’t think there was anything going on in arcades that you couldn’t hear the announcer yelling ULTRA COMBO on a KI machine. Same with the bass in the MK announcer, and the sound of the uppercuts hitting you in MK. They had such emphasis back then and sounded like they hurt.

That said, I don’t see why they can’t put a great emphasis on sound just for home usage. Home audio systems are better than ever now a days. I want to push my system to the limit while playing SF5.

I know I sound like a broken record (at least in other threads) but the sound in KI (the new one) is incredible overall. It has impact in the game to me big time. The hits sounds like they hurt when you get rocked by stuff. The announcer yelling out combos, who won the match, etc, all have a huge emphasis on he presentation of the game.

I just wish a bigger budget game like SF5 could take some stuff from the smaller games like KI and put more effort into these areas.

Ryu should have his duffel bag.

Ryu’s bag is top tier. It should always be there when you fight him in the background.

To show what i mean 10 minutes photoshop

His hairline is still shit.

Only if he picks it back up for his win pose

Costume Clipping - like at the start vega puts his mask on through his hair (or my pet hate one in USF4 is Gouken’s alt costume with the big straw hat, all his attack animations just clip through it…)
