Cord Mangament

i was just wondering how ug uys keep ur cords tied up when ur not using it. I have a twisty tie for now and plan on getting some velcro but i was wondering if there is something better then the velcro for when my joystick isnt in uses

Edit*
also i was wondering if anyone has ever made a case for their joystick for travel. I really ahte to just throw it in a backpack or something.

I’m a huge stickler about keeping my gear in the best condition I can keep them, especially with video game accessories and their cords. Even when I use my gear, I keep the twisty ties on. Now that you mention it however, I really ought to get me some velcro. But I digress.

I extend the life of my controller’s cords by buying extension cables for them and keeping the primary cords tied up. No lag, and if the extension cable gets beat up, oh well, that’s only like $2-$5. As for building or buying a carrying case, I don’t really have one for my stick since it’s a HRAP2:SA and those things are gigantic. So, instead of a case, I use a dedicated duffel bag to bring it around. Thankfully, my bag has enough room so that the cable doesn’t experience any negative friction or any bending force against it from the bag’s sides

I believe someone in the Custom Stick Thread built a carrying case for his custom stick. I can’t remember who, but it was rather nice. Thing is, his stick was rather small in comparison to something like my HRAP2:SA, so few people could really benefit from it. Nevertheless, if you have a stick that’s not too large (I personally say the size of a Wii is the outter limit), it’s definitely simple to build a case for it. Buy some wood or plastic, cut it into a box that is about half an inch wider than the stick itself, then pad the box with foam or some other shock-cushioning material.

EDIT: What you could also do is you can go the D-Sub route that a lot of custom stick owners have. Basically, you have a detachable cable that has an input D-Sub terminal as one end that hooks up to an output D-Sub terminal on the stick itself. The cords are detachable, so you can tie them up and store them elsewhere to keep them from getting beat up and ruined.

I do the exact same thing. I have these extensions:

Stretch out to around 8 feet and are retractable so even the extension cables are bundled up nicely when not in use

I started doing it after seeing so many posts in Trading Outlet asking for HRAP and Tekken cords.

I use these and they have always worked perfectly in keeping everything in order, plus they look cool in case they are not behind a desk or something.

If you’re super-hardcore about protecting your stick, you can get one of these Odyssey cases - Vulcan Series Utility Case

What’s cool about them is that they come with foam that’s diced so you can pretty much custom fit your stick by removing foam where needed. They’re expensive though.

As for cords, I use Case Logic Velcro Ties. I got 10 packs a while back and they work pretty well. My only complaint is that they come in packs of 6 different colors. I’d rather just have one uniform color for all of them.

I use Cable Clamps for all of my controllers. Very easy to add and remove. I used to use Velcro ties before I found these. They should be readily available at places like Wal-Mart.

Whoa, lots of useful info here. Actually never thought of cables as the important parts they are. I need to get an extension cable soon! Thanks for posting those tips, and keep 'em coming!

Woah, those cable clamps are freaking SWEET. tokerblue, thanks a ton for that link! I think I might’ve found my new alternative to twisty ties!

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from. Not many people pay too much attention to the cords, but after having 2 Gamecube controllers die on me and seeing my friend’s DualShock 2 die simply because the cords became slightly damaged, my eyes were opened.

Keeping your cords safe is important because in my Gamecube controller incidents, both of my controller died due to the internal wiring being damaged due to the cord going under a lot of pressure. The exterior of the cords looked fine but me simply rolling over a cord with my desk chair destroyed them both. You’ve got to be careful with these things. Bad stuff and a lot of frustration can happen and as such, it’s totally worth it to go the extra mile to protect your lagless corded interface to your console/PC because nobody wants to have to put up with lag from wireless interfaces.

What kind of back pack do u use?

50-pack of velcro cable ties. $17USD. Screw a Case Logic. =P

Sorry, I should’ve said duffel bag. But actually, I have a backpack that fits my HRAP2:SA as well, except I hardly use it since my stick shakes all over the place inside while I’m walking. Whether you’re using a duffel bag or a backpack, the trick is to put a slab of reinforced cardboard underneath the stick so that the cord has a flat surface to rest upon where the only thing that acts upon it is gravity as opposed to an outside force that can bend the cord worse. My duffel bag is actually large enough such that I can hold my HRAP2:SA, my CD game case, and a few of my gamepads comfortably.
