Hey guys… im finally able to talk about EVO…
My match wasnt my best match
I should have won against flashmetroid but i just got nervous/got fightstick problems.
Also Im better than you Tabs and probably Adelheid too lol
If anybody want to give me some feed back on my match it will be greatly appreciated…
here it is
youtube.com/watch?v=YVGFTjL-WQI
I can add that in the second match i got a random Xfactor that really got me nervous, the stick somehow confused, a normal dash (L + M) for the xfactor (L + M + H + S)
My fightstick was having “lag issues” i noticed that i couldn’t plink dash anymore (specially with akuma, there are a couple of instances that you get to see a random heavy standing attack come out instead of a plink dash).
Flash wasn’t sure what to do against Task on point.
The third match was something like this, me having a mental breakdown over my loss and trying to figure out what could i do with my Fightstick.
I tried to give a good show of what Task can do, but i failed.
Anyway after that match i got to play against Tapebot… in one of the most akward and random matches i have ever had, that guy just presses buttons, i was so mad that i lost to him.
Anyway enough of the excuses, at the end of the day i felt that i got cheated because of the sudden rules change… that really got me mad, but the EVO staff “had nothing to say about it”.
Nice match. You superjumped a lot, but it seemed to really work. I did see Flash not have some options there, which was pretty cool.
At the end, though, he figured it out, and Doom got a throw on Tasky. There were some heartbreaking moments in that last set. That projectile counter. Dang. Overall I didn’t see anything wrong with Tasky, nice spacing, smart tatsu calls. The XF was popped a little early for two of those matches, but those were both mistakes, so no fault there.
Just a note, and not a Task note, at 2:30 you can go into 3 jumploops from that throw with either assist and build some more meter before the snap. For Modok, Tron, and a few other wonky hitboxes you can actually do MHS for the first loop instead of MMH and get a bit more damage (unfortunately you would have built just shy of enough meter to DHC, so no kill).
And this is more a question. I noticed you doing stalking flare, flame carpet, tagging in Task, and then waiting, doing shield skills + dark hole, one arrow, then trick them into thinking they’re in blockstun and getting a free throw. Can’t you unblockable or try to overhead/low in that circumstance?
And yeah, enjoyed watching that. If you’ve got other matches lying around, I’d love to check them out.
oh my god, that 2nd match is heartbreaking
and yeah it’s pretty clear you were mindfucked in 3rd match.
since your task died to modok/struggled with modok the most, my main critique is that you were jumpin’ way too much
vs modok vertical arrows are actually super useful- i know you probably play the matchup alot too considering that you know about instant overhead vs him but modoks who like to run away are really vulnerable to a task who runs a solid ground game.
you can substitute the risk of superjump with the risk of vertical arrows into forcing him onto the ground or into a full combo with shield charge convert
in general you were puttin’ yourself at risk too much when doing raw superjumps with arrows or empty in hopes of forcing them to the ground for mixup and got punished for it in various ways. but generally when task got put in a bad spot/should’ve died/died it was a result of you doing a raw superjump from fullscreen. he’d get positions to force your hand or set up and escape or flat out kill you because you were just slowly kinda floating at him from the superjump.
this is more of a playstyle thing probably but you like basically go in too hard as task and forgo his strength in zoning with projectiles. not keepaway, but forcing the opponent onto you or forcing them into a situation where you can begin your pressure using projectile. from that match you were always tryin’ to get into normals range rather than using arrows to kinda move yourself in and force that pressure. i didn’t see you do normal jump _.> swing arrow or just swing->arrow once to get in or stall in the air vs those beams, only superjump swing down arrows, which still has that same risk from above.
beyond that, the shield charge in the corner vs doom that you got thrown was kinda like a ‘what on earth’ decision since footdive pretty much always beats it, which st.m would’ve stuffed it/also have not gotten airthrown. but that’s like a heat of the moment decision so not gonna go in hard on that. i know i’ve done dumb shit like that all the time just because i wanted to get somethin’ out asap and put them in blockstun
it really reaaallllyyy sucks that this was 2/3 because i’m pretty sure you would’ve beaten him in 3/5 once you calmed down. he definitely didn’t know what to do vs task and was flowcharting it pretty hard. to me it was pretty much 100% because of those jumps that he even managed to get hits on task in the first place.
also i think i’m better than you too but it’s impossible to tell regardless bc online is such garbage
that’s why you gotta come up here for some of the tx tournies some time!
Thanks guys…
I was aware of my super jumping, i swear i don’t super jump that much, but since Flash didn’t know what to do when Task was up in the air and i didn’t want to stay on the floor waiting for a Strange teleport mix up or for the strange assist to lock me up, i kept super jumping like a fool.
It did help me against Strange (to some degree) in the first match when he was in xfactor.
On Friday i played against Nemo on a short set. He is GDLK! and he kept locking me up with the Strange assist, so when i was facing Flash i really wanted to avoid that situation.
In the end, that random xfactor that my figthstick pulled on me sealed the deal…
PRO TIP: Don’t buy eightarc… They break down…
On the 2/3 vs 3/5 thing… Don’t make me remember… that shit the EVO organisers pulled was stupid… We had in this forums (on the EVO discussion forum) a THREAD TALKING ABOUT THAT, MONTHS BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT, and they just said that they didn’t see it coming? BS…
Anyway i got to play against a lot of pro players on side MM or just casuals. I can safely say that Taskmaster can play against the big guys, AS A POINT CHARACTER.
I was really afraid of some Zero showing up on on my bracket… I hate that character and i struggle a lot against him, too fucking safe for me.
On the keep-away vs close quarters, I didn’t want to throw arrows from the other side of the screen just to be killed by a Spell of Vishanti or some MODOK beam, into a wacky combo from the other side of the screen, i knew that a beam blast from MODOK and 2 supers were = to dead character.
I couldn’t talk to Adelheid, for some reason she was always occupied and i went away with the impression that she was not very friendly… lol
Would anyone be up for collaborating on a massive Taskmaster guide?
I am currently setting up my recording device again, my tv’s all wonky so I have to fix that first, and I’m a pretty busy guy, so I won’t be the fastest, but I’d love to get a serious guide for beginners and advanced players alike, and despite what I know in the lab, I’m assuming that most of youz guys are stronger players than me, so a team effort would be fun.
Sections I’m thinking of:
Normals (shield skills will be elaborated more on later)
Specials (basic info here, probly a section on arrows and unblockables later)
Supers (real quick there, basic info, different inputs and stuff like that)
Combos (not sure how much I should cover here, could include throw conversions, counter conversions, a few bnbs, solo airthrow pickup, corner arrow lift, superjump conversions, tac baits, and so on, probly need to narrow it down)
Gameplan (brief talk about his zoning and rushdown, how he can and should alternate between both depending on the matchup)
Shield Skills Abuse (mostly talk about assists, probly need a team comp section to really elaborate on that, and a section of the relative merits of cancelling shield skills with arrows, sharp sting or super)
Swing (purpose in neutral, swing combos, use in pressure, note that raw swing can be thrown for free if they know the matchup, swing cancelling)
Arrow Tricks (General zoning advice, don’t do too many raw jumpback M arrows, swing into arrows in pressure/zoning, and 2 Arrows)
Teams (swoon over Akuma and Dante assists a bit, also talk about teams where Task can shine second or anchor, thinking Nova/Spencer/Taskmaster as an example of that)
Gimmicky Taskmaster Teams (Taskmaster unblockable-oriented teams in theory and practice, brief note of some teams that can work there)
XF Taskmaster (I don’t know much here beyond combos, the shield skills loop, and running around like an idiot doing what I’d normally do but faster)
And that’s all I’ve got at the moment. Would take a while for me to edit and record it, but in the future something like this might be nice to have. Let me know what you all think, and if I should add/delete something.
what about some select match-up strategies for like top characters/common shells.
also, I honestly think that this seems like quite a large task, giggity, for any one person. But if you think you’re up to it, I’ll do whatever I can to help.
Eh, I could do it. I’ve done other guides before for different games. The Grundy guide I did a while back was 30+ minutes, this I’m only expecting to be 15-20, maybe 25? Things are always longer than one expects, but whatever. If it’s nuts it can be split up into parts.
I’m just at a really busy point in real life right now. So, if anyone decides to give me some advice or combo ideas, don’t expect them to show up until much later. But it’s a good thing for me to think about, and when I’m actually working on this I’m going to hop on this thread a few times for advice.
Matchups are a smart idea, but some common shells, especially Morrigan teams, I might need some help on. That and point Vergil, I can’t stand it when someone’s normals are bigger than mine.
if i had a mic and recording equipment i could just talk about it but i have neither
edit my really embarrassing matches for ya’lls viewing pleasure from AB:
vs ranmasama (haggar/dorm/mags)
vs jdog (hulk/nemesis/sent)
vs aj (vergil/mags/dante)
I’ve actually got some extremely impractical tech for vergil, I’ll try to record today or tomorrow. I don’t even have an xbox setup right now.
Also, as far as combo variation in a guide, IMO you don’t need too much. Maybe a couple of basic bnbs with no assists, getting the first hit and not getting hit should take priority. Anyway, I’ve seen the grundy vid, so I’m probably not telling you anything new. If somebody wants to learn task, they’re going to learn combos by themselves.
I like recording my own comments over it, so no worries on that front. I’ll probly be more specific about help when I write the script for what I’m actually saying.
I was watching the stream, btw. At times your Task was really really awesome at just moving and keeping the opponent honest, something for me to look towards emulating. I’m salty you took out my boy JDog, though
I didn’t see the aj match, will after dinner and come up with something productive to say.
So nobody has really been talking much…did you guys know that you can get a snap back and other stuff from a grounded M aim-master if the opponent is juggled in the corner? If not I’ll put up a crappy video about it later
If youre still thinking about doing this task guide how about adding kara arrows tech into the arowws section
Does anyone have tips for anchor task, more specifically how to defeat push guarding. I think task is a very capable anchor of course hes no satan or strider, but better than the other assist characters
I believe there was a little discussion about this somewhere here in the Task forums. My general tips for anchor Task is BE A SOLID PLAYER. Like actually be someone with footsies, reactions, spacing, etc. As you said, Task isnt gimmicky which is an automatic downside in this game. As for beating pushblocking, it’s something i vaguely mentioned and never made a video for. Pretty much, start reacting to pushblocks with empty arrow kara swings (mighty swing xx L or M arrows double tapped…double tapping would normally make 2 arrows come out but since he’s so low, the arrows never come out and he lands).
Best way to beat pushblocking is to simply frame trap them and get a free throw or combo by staggering your strings. Staggering crLs does wonders with your Task play and you’ll end up getting in easier or opening people up who are mash heavy, condition them enough and you start to get free throws too.
Task Anchor sucks though imo. Doom/Dante/Dr Strange/Magneto provide far better support and are more solid solo. Task has serious problems catching characters with good air mobility on anchor (ie Magneto/Morrigans/Dooms/Wesker/Modok) who are just laming his XF time out.
Yeah I definitely agree that task isn’t the best anchor, but he is pretty good one on one against most of the cast. Zero/Task is the team i’m using. I’ve used a few characters to try to complete this team but doesn’t seem to be a magic third for the duo.
If you’re using both Zero and Taskmaster together, your best bet is to put Dante either second or third (I would go with third personally). Both characters benefit greatly from Jam Session as you probably already know.
If you want a more complete and synergistic team go with Jam, although there are multiple (although weaker imo) alternatives like Missiles, Tatsu, Log Trap etc.
I actually used to play Zero with arrows and missiles when I first started playing him. It’s not bad at all but it felt incomplete at times. It truly depends on whether you want an overwhelming point presence with Zero & two assists, a good shell in the back for cleanup/ more help for Taskmaster. I would really only recommend Jam or Missiles for a Zero-task shell though. If you plan on using Task anchor then I’m not sure about the middle although doom and dante can still fit second.
Nova Zero Task works
Thanks guys i’ll give that team a shot I like point nova a lot. I’ve also been using zero/task/dog…I just can’t get dante down and ammy is a better anchor I think.
