What if’s are valid when it comes to law enforcement because they are expected to diffuse situations before they escalate. What actions they take to diffuse them you have to judge on a case by case basis, but you can’t dismiss what if scenarios entirely.
That’s understandable but what else is he to do? Like you said, just shake the fuck out of her? Slam her into the car? What are his other options? Of course the what if game comes into play. The only reason why this is even an issue is because they are females.

Laying hands on a woman is wrong, a woman laying hands on anyone else is wrong. Logically both have consequences, you and some other people think the consequences were extreme in this case, so I’m asking you: What are some non-extreme but effective measures that could have been taken to defend against a hostile civilian and establish the “respect” he and his badge deserved? If you wanted him to behave professionally, then what would that include? Verbal warnings? An armwrench? Swift takedown? Taser? Or maybe he should have just ignored the hostile civilian and focus on his original subject.

When you have a belt of fucking WEAPONS around you, and some bitch is attacking you while u try to arrest her friend, fuck that shit. She got one punch to let her know fuck off. He should have restrained her safer. If it was a domestic dispute and any one of u did that to your spouse, you would be in jail ,even if she hit u first . Think about that .

I was more thinking of like a light choke hold. I don’t know what the correct term is, but like in wrestling they do it all the time after throwing someone off the ropes.
Of course the only issue here is because it was a female. We live in a world full of double standards. It’s not changing anytime soon.
While some sort of hold (within reason) would have looked more professional, it would be hard to see him having one in the hold and the other not intervening.
if he was a regular dude, no problem. BUT HE IS A COP. It DOES matter who hits first in this situation. You do NOT attack a cop and then bitch about how he roughed you up. I’ve seen waaaaaaaay worse over the years (people getting tazed for being mouthy, getting billy clubbed into coma’s, hell I had a buddy who spit in a cops face then “fell down” a lot after they loaded him into the van).
Cops deal with fucked up crazy criminals all the time, and can’t afford to take chances or risks. How was he supposed to know if she didn’t have oustanding warrants, and would fight to the death to avoid going to jail?
Personally, I would have just maced her in the face nice and long, or give her the old 50 mph headbutt into the hood of the car.
It definitely is, which sucks. I think you either let cops apply their own judgment, which unfortunately means they can potentially make unreasonable judgments about situations and respond with unnecessary force, or force them to be virtually purely reactive, which allows situations to more easily escalate.
What Cuz and RockBogart said. Also, because of the 17 year old’s actions afterwards it’s more than likely that she would have jumped on him had he gotten the other in some kind of grapple.
I see. What about like locking their hand behind their back. Like handcuffs, but with your hands holding them back? That just seems like it work better than punching someone.
I’m 50/50 on this. consensus in my office is we would have decked her too but he’s a cop he’s trained to know better. plus he loses some points with me using a closed fist. but it was 2 aagainst 1
he did not slam that girl on the floor and cuff her like he could have. dude was trying not to hurt the girl. I though he was gonna put that girl in the million dollar dream at one point. mistakes were made on both sides.
