I watched the CNN link from the OP last night, Epi. That stupid cunt in the pink shirt had it coming. From what I was told by my SO, who saw a vid that had all the events leading UP to that punch, the cop was just doing his job and that dumb ass hoodrat in the black shirt was just coming out of her face, etc etc. While SRK can definitely be on the misogyny tip, when I hear about shit like this, all I can do is :shake:

Seriously, police aren’t out to get you that’s just paranoia. If your being talked to by a police officer in any situation just stay calm. I’ve known several people who have done minor things such as even like speeding or just minor offenses and by being calm, very polite and handling the situation carefully they’ve gotten off VERY LIGHT with nothing at all or just a small fine. It’s when you push the issue and act like a kid throwing a temper tantrum that shit is gonna go down.

Again, that cop was far too damned nice. Halfway through that any other cop would have tased the crap about of both those morons AND then arrested them. None of that bullshit would have been tolerated.
If that cop did get chewed out by his superiors, i’d bet one of the points they touched on was that he didn’t lay down the LAW nearly enough. Make those fools realize that getting approached by any cop is serious shit that should be respected.
You get a ticket for verbally arguing with cops which is in accordance to state law so getting punched for physically threatening a person who’s job is to keep the public safe isn’t exactly out of hand. He punched her once and only after trying to physically subdue her but since she was just resisting even more at that point he probably thought a punch would let her know that she is breaking the law and that resisting would only make things worse and he was right.
If he gets any disciplinary action against him then what hope do cops who legitimately try to do their job have? Also consider that in those situations you don’t have a lot of time to sit on your ass and let shit go, but more importantly anyone willing to physically threaten a cop is probably capable of doing harm to the cop or the public so how swift and brief violence was a necessary use of force in this case.

You know what set him off? It was that shove from the girl in the pink top. That shove actually stumbled him a bit. Maybe not stumbled, but he reeled back on one foot. You can see clearly that after he recovered, he did not appreciate being shoved backwards.

That wrist grabbed seemed more like he was thinking about momentarily forgetting about the other one to restrain the girl in pink, but then he realized that they would both keep coming at him and decided to put her down quick with a right cross.
The problem is that a punch looks like such a primal tool compared to some of the alternatives; however, I assure you that a punch, and especially that one, will hurt you less than a forceful hold, taser, pepper spray or a baton to the gut.
People saying that he should have batoned her/tasered her are wrong. Sure, lets use a stick that can crack skulls right? Or a device that floods your nervous system with electricity and paralyzes you. He punched her in the face for crying out loud… not like the dude is Brock Lesnar or something. Those two girls were resisting over jaywalking. You can’t just walk away from a cop when they’re telling you to stop, let alone put your hands on him. Especially when two individuals are struggling, with an unknown factor of the crowd gathering around… that situation could have gotten really bad and we could be reading about how someone pulled the gun from his holster or the people just jumped him or anything. He needed to use something that would stop the person (hopefully) from struggling without seriously injuring her. A single punch works. Now if he started ground and pounding or something after that… definitely the cop is at fault… but a single punch and then going back to subduing the original person…nah…
I find people keep viewing this less as a cop hitting a suspect, and a man hitting a woman. People with no police training telling the rest of us how a cop should better handle a DANGEROUS SITUATION. If he tazed her, ppl would be bitching that he tazed her. If he maced her, theyd bitch about that too.
As a regular joe, you can walk away from that scene, or just ‘be a man’ and let the women just be crazy bitches for a bit. As a cop, you don’t have that choice. Your JOB is to end situations like that. What kind of fucked up pussy land would we be living in if we let the cops know that women can attack you, and you have to be nice about how you deal with them?
This is a cop, in a bad area, SURROUNDED by people either attacking him, cheering on the attackers, surrounding him, or taking pictures/videos of it all going down.

I think no matter how he acted it would have been blown out of proportion, however the methods you mentioned would have looked (in my opinion) a lot worse. If they hadn’t have acted they way they did she wouldn’t have got hit, it really does come down to being as simple as that I think. I think if it was two males in that situation resisting and getting involved he would have acted the same. On them being teenagers, they are old enough to resist arrest, kick up a fuss and push an officer around like he holds no authority on protecting the public, they are old enough to be punched in the face. Heck I don’t even know how nearer the end he tells her to stop resisting so calmly.

More like stupidity for aiding a friend in resisting arrest. The cop was going to let the chick’s friend off with a warning and she got belligerent and nasty about being stopped and allowed it to escalate into what we saw on video. I’m not fond of cops, but if I feel like I’m being served something unfairly, I’ll take it to court.
