Pepper spray will fck your world UP. I was walking to Walgreens one morning (open 24/7) to get some energy drinks to keep me up so I could study, and I guess it was just the combination of it being almost 2 am and I was wearing heavy clothes, walking fairly quickly towards the door (and the woman in front of me) when she turns around and sprays me DIRECTLY in my right eye. It was pretty intense. Paranoid bish.
I don’t know if punching a girl in the face is ever “okay” or “justified” but in this case it’s certainly understandable. I am not the biggest fan of cops, but that was a crazy looking situation. If I had been in the same situation, I probably wouldn’t have punched anyone, but to be a cop you probably never know what someone’s doing. The union, according to the article, says he’s supposed to take her down by force, which could cause more injury than a punch would. So, she actually did get off lucky.
Again, this is coming from someone who does not like cops in general (although some have been cool to me, I just can’t stand their institution).
Although, I have to say, some of these statements about “authority” in this thread really make me sad. We should always have the right to question authority and defend ourselves from its misuse.

The cop did so many wrongs that escalated the shit to where it shouldn’t have happen in the first place. He had no control of the area, the crowd, & people at hand. He was way over his head, should have called back up. He tried to regain control by punching w/ anger which could have made it a lot worse then what happen.
Backup on a jaywalker. LOL. His cop buddies would have gotten a kick out of that! “Officer in pursuit. I need backup. I’ve got a jaywalker here!” You’re really overcrediting a punch. A punch is very low on the scale of forceful gestures used by cops to subdue unruly criminals.
This is in MLK w/ rowdy crowd…You know how many times his gun was exposed. The cop got luck the mob crowd didn’t react to his punch.

I’d rather get punched in the face than kicked to the ground, maced, or tased. Keep in mind I’ve experienced all 3 at one time or another, and the officer is within his rights to do any of them. The punch seems like the most violent option until you’ve experienced the others.

i’m not able to view the vid at work, however a closed fist is never neccessary vs a woman*. A backhand or slap is painful enough and would floor a woman without breaking her jaw and without emasculating the officer. I think he was excessive too. maybe you guys dont know your own strength, maybe you can’t punch, or maybe you have no physical experience with a woman, i know if i punched my wife i’d expect her head to come off.

I want to agree with you, but honestly she should have been tazed… both of them. Its clear they have NO respect for any type of authority no matter how BS the stop was. You don’t put your hands on a stranger let alone a cop. I doubt they learned anything from this tho, which is the sad thing. The punch didn’t even fully connect from the looks of it. And either one of them chicks could have been carrying a blade or whatever.
