I don’t really see any way how it could have been handled better, especially since it was a 2-on-1 situation that was becoming increasingly hostile. I mean, he had to make a snap decision, and it worked.

LOL here is the deal. Most cops are already in a bad mood from the get go. To act like one isn’t going to have emotional response when there is a crowd of gawkers video taping and yelling at him. Not to mind you, 2 over the top girls screaming and making the situation worse topped off with blue shirt girl doing a soft double palmed strike (angry girl push) to his face. Dude just reacted. He was no longer a cop, he was that dude and that dude just watched Bernard Hopkins highlight reel the night before.

yeah, basically the cop overreacted a bit because he’s green, but the fact is the woman was in the wrong, legally as well as ‘common sensibly’. Sucks though. She has my sympathies regardless.
I feel the same way on one hand because it was a response that got the woman to realize she was A) shoving a police officer and B) shoving a man (which goes back to that false sense of entitlement stuff). On the other hand, it would be a risky action that could have made the situation worse for himself and the people standing around gawking. Of course, if he’d taken her down, like was suggested earlier (thanks for answering that btw Arsenal), he might have ended up hurting himself or even hurting the girl more if say, her head were to hit the pavement or the vehicle. Then there’d be a whole mess of shit about a cop putting some chick in a coma. The overall idea I’m getting is that there was no way for this to become physically violent in a way that would NOT piss anybody off.

I don’t see how the cop overreacted. What if the girl in pink had AIDS? and she continued to scratch/attack him? What if others saw that the pink lady is getting away with assault on an officer and that creates ‘the mob bravery’ effect and they take his gun, jump him? The obvious point is its 2v1, and it could have escalated seeing that there were other guys in the background.
He did the right thing, and that was to punch that person in the face. Like the article said, he could have swept her, and brought her to the ground face first; He could have pulled out his gun/taser/baton. THAT would have been an overreaction (although even the union is saying it won’t be).
The officer in question is a grown man, and as a grown man he could’ve EASILY grabbed ahold of the woman’s arm, twisted it, turned her around and handcuffed her WHILE simultaneously absorbing the physical assault from behind by her friend, who might or might not have a weapon in tow but still, he’s a man so he can take it. If he was trained properly he would’ve came up with that solution in a split second but no, he opted to punch the bitch which is of course a no-no because treating gals nicely comes way before law enforcement and safety, and half of the posts in this thread agree with my view.

Lets put this into perspective from a different POV to the peeps that condole his actions. What if that would of been your girlfriend/sister/mum. Is it okay for Mr. Big Adult Male to punch the woman in the face when in all fairness she aint really done anything? Yeah… didn’t think so.
