Converter Compatibility Thread

After I updated to 1.4 (still haven’t updated to 1.5) the PSX support of the MC Cthulhu was compatible with my Innovation converter; which was previously incompatible as of 1.3

Wondering if anyone with a Neo Geo Pad 2 knows if it work with the Inpin and Xconverter? Own a PC Magic Box converter and only the buttons seem to function with this. I’m guessing that the converter only works with 1st party controllers since my Ascii Dreamcast stick has the same problem while my Sega Saturn Pad works fine.

Interesting Adapter I picked up a while back. I bought this at the local Walmart. It’s a game controller to USB adapter, and it works with PS1/2, X-Box, and Gamecube, and also functions as a USB hub. Works great on the PS3, although some buttons may need remapping. Not bad for twelve bucks.

Status: Absolutely perfect, no input lag when tested with Dual Shock 2, HRAP1 and 2 on Mame, GGPO, SF4, PCSX2 and basically every emulator.\

Price range: From Y1,500 and below (around 17 bucks and under.)

Since this is the converter compatibility thread, I figured I should ask here first before I make a new thread.

Does anyone know how to replace USB cords? My Pelican converter is pretty much shot. I got it to work before by wiggling the cord and hoping I got them magic fingers, but sadly, it completely died a few weeks ago.

Thanks.

You should make a new thread, as this is gonna require you to disassemble the converter and likely re-solder the loose/broken wires. If you are going to do that, I’d just replace the entire USB cable with a new one and make sure to re-reinforce the cable where it exits the adapter, with either epoxy, hotglue, or electrical tape so it can’t brake the wires from the PCB again.
If you disassemble it and the wires are not loose/broken from the PCB, perhaps the pins in the USB end have been squished flat and no longer make good contact to the PS3 USB pins.

I was already planning on replacing the USB cable actually. I guess my real question was, are the wires in USB cables all the same? Like for example, the red wire on the Pelican USB cable is the same as another USB cable, black is the same on both, etc etc.

I just got a Total control plus PSX to DC (as was recommended to me by people in the cthulu thread for my MCC) anyone know how this works? there’s a slot for the PSX controller to go in but there’s another one on the side and a switch!

And it didn’t come with instructions! Anyone know what those do?

Dont remember exactly the settings but if you search for total control plus in youtube there a review where it explain the diferent setting of that switch…

I saw a tutorial, but I’m still a little fuzzy (my DC hasn’t come yet) and there’s a lot of conflicting information.

All USB cables have the same four wires, and should have the same color wires. If you happen to have different color wires in the replacement cable than the old one, just search for a site that has USB pinout diagrams to see if there are alternate colors sometimes used.
This is part of the reason 360/PS3 dual mods don’t require two USB cables, since USB is a universal connector, and wiring standard.

You check out the ? I checked mine, and I leave the switch pushed all the way towards the cable, away from the PSx controller in port, the video calls it the “top position”. I pretty much only play fighting games with it, I guess the switch in the middle is for steering wheels, and then the switch all the way at the “bottom position” (controller port side) is for dance pads I guess. When you get your dreamcast in, plug everything and just fiddle with the switch to see what works best for you.

Shit, I updated to 1.6 and now the MC Cthulhu is incompatible with Total control Plus, Innovation, and my tototek Saturn converters. I’m gonna have to downgrade back to 1.3 Kazujiro do you still have a copy of 1.4 firmware?

Oh man, that’s pretty rough Truckasaurus! We’ll have to report to Toodles somehow. :xeye:

Hey guys, i found this converter laying around my house (i remember a friend buying it so he could play some n64 games on his computer) and wondering if they are good or bad? let me know!

Those aren’t bad. They’re completely nameless, but I know for certain they didn’t lag and had surprising compatibility with most stuff I threw at it. I had PlayStation 1 Digital Pads, DualShock 1s, DualShock 2s, and various Hori PlayStation era sticks running on it just fine.

do you think it will lag with 2 sticks plugged into 1? haha.

I guess to recap:

Cthulhu 1.6 - Incompatible with Total Control Plus, Innovation Dream Connection II, Tototek PSX>Saturn Converters
Cthulhu 1.5 - ???
Cthulhu 1.4 - Compatible with Innovation Converter
Cthulhu 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 - Compatible with Total Control Plus and Tototek to Saturn, but NOT compatible with Innovation Dream Connection II

I’ll try 1.5 out when I get a chance and try out the inPin, blazepro, and xconverter as well.

EDiT: I was reading over at the Cthulhu thread and saw that Robokrikit has been doing some testing and was successful in using the Total control plus. Also, there’s a newer version of the firmware, 1.6b

A question - does anybody know why some PS1 digital pads don’t work correctly with Inpin or Pelican converters? Is there a fix for this problem?

I’m actually pretty surprised at those findings. We should let Toodles know, though Robokrikit seems to have already let him know! Let’s hope for fixed compatibility in firmware 1.7. :bgrin:

Unfortunately, there is no way to fix the problem unless you are able to change the way the inPin or Pelican converter communicates with the PlayStation 3 and the controller which would require you to completely rewrite the converter’s protocol. I’d recommend you just plain old stay away from PlayStation 1 Digital Pads if you’re intending to use converters.
