Honestly, the damage is done regardless. I’m just curious as how things will work in the future. Right now there are major tournaments and such, but I can’t help but wonder if one day those will be dead too. Sooner or later everyone will be playing online except for when they have friends over. I remember playing MK, X-Men, and other games at arcades when I was young. Every time we wen’t somewhere I would beg my parents to throw me some change only to be embarrassed by the adults lol. Until I got my hands on a Sega Genesis anyway.
This is the best reply ever
I wish arcades were dead already, it’s an archaic business model that only continues to work in a closely knit, reclusive part of the world, and even there it’s on a steady downward spiral.
For the record I’ve been going to arcades for a decade, and to one of the most well known ones to boot (until it closed shop). It occurred to me that it wasn’t the actual arcade I enjoyed being a part of, it was the social interaction. To be honest I’ll take a gathering or tournament casuals with diner run / late night food binges over the barbaric nature arcades used to represent anyway.
u trippin
i like the new av
u be buggin
thanks~
In the 90s, there were arcades in a lot of places. Now you have to drive about an hour or two to get to the nearest arcade worth a damn . . . two weeks before it closes down.
Arcades are, well . . . not as alive as they used to be.
This. Topic Over.
All arcades are going to die. Get your head out of your ass and accept it.
someone make a “Console killed the Arcade Scene” equivalent of this:

I think illSim won’t pass the Turing test.
Arcades have had their time and now are on the verge of extinction. For the most part, the current (and expanding) state of console gaming has removed many reasons to ever go to an arcade. For the few arcades left (maybe sans Japan), they are hanging on by a thread.
Well there is a Tekken 5 DR cab in 1 Dave and Busters in New York City that I went to. Aside from that, nope.
No, I’m saying arcades always seemed to pull in overly violent types who’d be quick to assault someone for beating them at a damn GAME. Had a chinese place that had SF2 for a while, it was fine until they had to take the machine out due to gangbangers shooting each other over the damn game. Fuck dealing with that shit, I’m not gonna get shot at because I beat some guy in a damn videogame. I could understand someone kicking your ass if you shittalked nonstop, but not someone shooting you just for playing well.
That has nothing to do with arcades and everything to do with location
Kinda hard to understand what the OP is sayin. I need to brush up on my ebonics. Damn I feel like Carlton from Fresh Prince right now.
I swear people are making that whole “gangbangers and shit shooting arcades out” up. A salty person who wants to fight you hear and there, but i doubt gangs would waste thier time bringing guns and shit to fight at a fucking arcade. I bet the people that make up these people have never even been to an arcade, that shit just sounds way to exaggerated.
Looks like an urban myth, sounds exaggerated and maybe stupid but outside the US this was true in some countries (especially in Latin America), arcades were a great place for gangs and these idiots were everywhere, although I’ve never heard of deaths but a friend who went to an arcade outside in the US was threatened with a knife because he was bothering other dude in KOF98 because not let him charge the extra power bar lol, but anyway this was long ago i doubt this will happen now. On Topic: R.I.P Arcades.
We should make it a rule that you can’t make a new thread unless the first post is at least 3 paragraphs and 500 words long.
No, I’m not making it up. I’m not dumb enough to claim all arcades were like that, that’s just stupid generalization. But yes, that kind of culture was prevalent in some arcades, and it didn’t help, especially since it wasn’t like America had tons and tons of those places to go to. So god forbid if one of the few areas you had had that element to it. It sucked and it sure as hell wasn’t something fun to see a place like that then either be unable to go cuz of that shit or the people taking out machines in stores and stuff where you could play due to that. Imagine being a kid seeing SF2 in a corner store, being happy you actually get to play it then like a month later it’s gone cuz people just had to go acting a fool up in the place. Did it happen all the time, no. But when it did it fucking blew ass.
Keep in mind too when I’m talking about gangbangers, I’m talking about the kind of people who’d shoot someone over stupid shit like “he looked at me funny” “he scuffed mah shoes” and robbing people and shooting them over 5 bucks or some crazy shit like that. You may not want to believe it but yeah some areas had fucked up people like that. If a guy is willing to start shit because he thinks someone “looked at him funny”, you think he’s gonna be mentally balanced enough to think “gee, maybe pulling a gun on someone for beating me in this game is retarded…”? Playing snes SF was better if only because at least you knew the game would still be there to play after a month and not taken out. I had cousins who were into rather uh, shady dealings and even they chose playing at home with each other over the arcade/corner stores with arcade machines, that’s kinda telling if anything.
if it helps, I’m talking about some hood areas, dunno how the burbs were with this stuff.
