because of this…

Please try to re-read my previous post, installing SP2 is only going to fix you USB issues, in order to fix your HDD issues you need to reformat the hard drive using an XP CD having SP2 embedded already on the CD (hence the need to create a streamlined CD) or repartition your hard drive using any of the tools I suggested.

Now that you have SP2 installed there’s a 3rd option if you don’t want to reinstall the OS or mess with re-partitioning tools, but the option I’m going tell you about will leave your HDD divided in 2 partitions (the 125GB you already created and a 2nd one with the remaining HDD space) if you want to give it a try, go for this:

  1. GO to start menu and click control panel

  2. Look at the upper left corner and click on “switch to classic view”

  3. Look for the “Administrative tools” icon and double click on it.

  4. Now double click on “Computer management”

  5. A new window should pop-up, look at the left hand tree view and click on “disk management” (it would take a few seconds to refresfh the main window)

  6. You’ll now see all your currently installed drives in 2 separate panes, so you just need to right click “unalocated space” for your hard drive on the lower pane and select “new volume” (I don’t quite remember the exact text on XP since I’ve been using Vista for a while now, but it should either be the “new volume” or “new primary partition” or new “extended partition”) then just follow the on-screen dialogs (no need to change the defaults) this will create a new partiton and leave it formating (it will take a while, like 30/45 minutes)

  7. At the end when you browse “my computer” it will look as if you have 2 separate hard drives (1x 125GB and 1x for whatever the remaining space is) but it should work just fine for you.

Sounds like a lot of steps but it’s pretty easy to do.

I guess I’m not seeing exactly why he needs the SP2 CD to get his drive partitioned correctly from a clean install. Does the old CD not see large drives correctly or something?

How can I print this?

http://www.recruitfirefighter.com/page0027.htm

I’d just copy what I’d need and paste to Word or Wordpad. You don’t need the images.

How do you want to print it -as in, what do you want included or excluded? I see that when I go to print preview it only shows me one possible page to print, and that’s not including anything other than the first paragraph and the side bar.

Its a .gif so I cant copy and paste the words. I tried saving the pic and printing it, but that didnt work either. I just need the workout plan and Im too lazy to write it out :looney:

Holy shit, I’m at a loss. I’ll play with it.

dios: errr… why is your system automatically downclocking your processor by about a ghz?

i need good laptop around 1000.

LoL. That’s the same thing this guy at Fry’s told me. Thanks.

:d: Good lookin’ out.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this. You can leave No Script installed if you want. Just make sure, however, that along with youtube.com you set it to allow scripts from ytimg.com, too. I’m not exactly sure what changed in the last No Script update that affected this, but I have no problems with YouTube now.

Depending on what your needs are… the ASUS EeePC is pretty awesome for 400 bucks. You can put XP on it, and if you can deal with a 7 inch screen, then you’re set. It has a VGA jack on it so you can use a regular monitor with it if needed.

i dont know? get at me at aim, i dont quite understand whats wrong here with my ghz speed? eh? o.o.

and i got the full 500 gigs unlocked on my hard drive ^^ , i made a second HD with the remainder of my 375gigs, so now i have C drive 125 gig, and e drive, 375 gigs. so, thanks ^^ got that bit out of the way.

buuut. all of my usb ports still act as 1.0 …
i checked my motherboard manual and went into the set up bios and selected usb 2.0 to enabled, but everyth\ime i plug my psp or other device, into a usb slot, any of them ( ive tried them all ) i still get the " this deivce can perform faster " message, meaning its usb 1.0

can anyone help me figure this out? i went into deivce manager and clicked all of my usb ports and selected upgrade/update device and it says theres no updates for it at this time. wtfbbq?

You probably have Intel Speed step technology enabled on the BIOS, it basically downclocks your CPU to save power/CPU life, you can safely disable it if you want your CPU at full speed all the time. Another reason might be your motherboard not detecting the CPU properly so it could be assigning the wrong Multiplier or FSB settings to it, but it would be better for you to avoid messing with this for now and try disabling the Speed step thingy first to see if that works.

I know you already said “all of them”, but I still want to ask, did you tried the ports on the motherboard itself or ports on the Chasis (which are supposed to be wired directly to the internal motherboard ports)?

Anyhow, try installing this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=733dd867-56a0-4956-b7fe-e85b688b7f86&DisplayLang=en

It’s a hotfix from microsoft having the USB 2.0 drivers only.

If this hotfix doesn’t work, try going again into device manager, then right click all USB HUBS one by one and remove them (all of them), then restart the computer and let windows automatucally re-detect them, then reinstall the hotfix.

Dios, did you get a chance to go into the Device Manager like I suggested? That can determine if you’ve got all the proper motherboard drivers installed correctly.

Also, your total drive space should equal 488 GB, not a complete 500 because computers see a megabyte as 1024 bytes, but drive makers only count every 1000 bytes.

You should really check with the motherboard manufacturer’s site and see if any of these problems are common. They might already be addressed some other place.

If I tweak the GAMMA on my LCD monitor, will it in any way mess it up later on down the line?

I’d like to set it to -50, as that produces the best picture [to me at least], but don’t want to go messing with it then next thing you know have an image burned into it or something [I think that’s what I heard back in the day].

Once again, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a stupid question, but are there any good antivirus programs that are reasonably priced and don’t require a fee for re-subscribing?

Also, how much does a full, bug-free version of XP typically cost nowadays?

@Dios:

dude, my SN is thetempestsonata

i don’t see you online much, but i might not have your sn spelled correctly, because i thought i’ve talked ot you once before or so.

i’ll hook you up if you need.

You can get a free version of AVG.
