Computer Help Thread v4.0

This is straight up truth. I’ve also heard good things about AbiWord, but I’ve never actually used it myself.

Thanks for the tips i’ll see what i can look into and ohh yeah the chip is still good have too snag a board for it thou. Thanks again!!!

Yeah, it has the basics for anyone in need of typing up only a document. Also, what’re the differences between StarOffice and Open Office? I’ve tried both and they seem identical (yes I know the same people created both).

I recently installed System Center Configuration Manager to Windows Server 2003 ( Non Enterprise) and was curious if its possible to have the SQL on another server that does not store System Center Configuration Manager. It seems like it wont allow me to have SQL on another server.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Also is it possible with another server for System Center Operations Manager?

Thank You,

Mathew

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Small prob but can anyone tell me how to get rid of this shortcut permanently?

It appeared out of nowhere one day and I haven’t been able to get rid of it. Everytime I delete it, it reappears some time after. Rather bothersome. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

Nice wallpaper, care to share?

Sounds like spyware, check your C:/programs files directory for anything suspicious.

default??

do you know what the extension is?

Actually, let’s expand even further and give us all the details there are on it… like what, if any, properties are given.

my linksys BEFW11S4 may be the shittiest wireless router known to man. not only do wired connections work from it, wireless does not either. i’ve updated to the newest firmware, and i’ve used my laptop w/wireless card from multiple different locations before so that leaves me at an impasse as to whether or not the router itself, or some kind of arcane technical setting is jacked up. anybody help?

argh…confusing.

if you’ve tried all that, try replacing the cable from the modem to the router. sometimes they go bad, and when our router was acting up, that was the solution

your wasting your time guy, do yourself a favor a refrain from using that piece of shit you own and make yourself happy buy buying a more reliable router like d-link. just make sure you update the firmware via the website and you’ll be up & running in no time w/o any errors

Sorry I don’t have the actually pic but I found the wallpaper at minitokyo. I’m sure you can find it if you do a search.

Sorry for not responding sooner. I deleted the icon after I posted and it took awhile till it can back. It’s a ZPZPLFile and opens with unknown program. Size is 222 bytes and on disk 4kb. Thanks for trying to help you guys. I appreciate it.

my guess is that its related to Zoom Player. Thats the only program file on your desktop thats not a shortcut.

I’m certain this post is in the wrong place, so my apologies.

Have WACOM pens / tablets & pens dropped in price at all?

Is there another product that I should be considering?

Okay, my computer is really acting up now and I honestly have no idea how or why it is. None of you are likely going to be able to help due to the generic description I can give: my computer freezes. That’s it. Literally, the entire thing freezes. No BSOD, no error messages, just a complete system freeze. Oddly enough this has started only recently within the past 24 hours, this first happening at 2:39 AM this morning. Ever since then, it’s been freezing randomly after I hard restart it. Longest I’ve been able to run without a freeze was about 40-60 minutes.

I already ran diagnostics… did chkdsk on both drives, ran adware/spyware removal programs, etc. It’s not a virus either, as I haven’t downloaded anything strange or gone to any sites strange websites or sites I don’t already visit on a regular basis. Hardware manager shows everything okay. I took apart my computer and checked connections: everything okay there too. Video card is running fine, not overheating at all. CPU is running normally with normal temperature as well. My mobo doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of overheating either (system doesn’t run sluggishly) and I don’t feel any out of the ordinary heat coming from the mobo either.

Any ideas?

Run a msconfig, and disable all your stuff, see if that works. Failing that, do a system restore to a couple of days ago.

yeah i finally gave in and bought a new one last night: WRT54GS. a slight hitch on initial installation, but smooth sailing from there. out of curiosity though-- the way you mentioned it made my old wireless router’s shittiness seem like common knowledge, im just wondering how i could have missed that everytime i googled it.

have you tried running memtest, (google it), it might be a memory issue.

Yeah that seems to be it! I’m surprised I didn’t notice it. I’ll just uninstall and reinstall zoom player and hopefully everything will turn out ok. Thanks to everyone who listened to my prob!

2 questions;

  1. My computers graphics card is a geforce 6150, but I want to upgrade (mainly for FFXI). What are some good graphics cards that I should look into buying?

  2. When I try to end programs via task manager, I click on ‘end program’ but the program stays open. Why would that be?
