SteadyState isn’t BULLETPROOF, but for the meantime, it works incredibly good. I’m sure once it gets more exposure, it’ll get a lot better.
Does anyone know an agp graphix card as good as an nvidia 6800
I believe there is nvidia gef. 6800 gs for agp
Oh yeah does anyone know how to change an ip like and ip switcher
its quite easy. Assuming you are using xp: Go start->run->“ncpa.cpl”->right click the adapter you want to change IP for and click properties->select “Internet Protocol” and click properties and you should be able to configure from there.
umm there’s this installshield update manager pop up, what should i do with it. should i do the check for updates automatically or just ignore it?
You mean like bringing up different IP/network configurations for different places? I’m sure they exist, but I haven’t tried any of them.
InstallShield update manager is cool. If you’re getting them more than often, even after actually updating, then there might be a problem.
so should i do the check for updates now and stuff or should i close it when i get the pop up?
it ask me if i wanna update cineplayer, i dunno if that shit even worth updating, lol. so from now on, should i read what its asking me to update?
Yeah. Check it now.
…Cineplayer? hmm…do you have Roxio installed?
yee i got roxio, i dunno what that is, but its on my comp thouggh.
Today was a hot day. i was using my computer to play some games and i noticed that it was hotter than usual. i downloaded a cpu temperature monitor and my cpu was running at 67 C. just wondering how hot can my cpu handle? its a 3 ghz P4. and what would happen if the cpu gets too hot?
If your CPU overheats it will just power off before any damage can be done to it. 67C is hot, but it’s well below the max temperature that your CPU can handle.
It’s normal for your CPU to get hottest while doing things like playing games, encoding video, etc.
If your CPU ever does overheat, I recommend first just cleaning your case out, getting rid of all the dust and stuff. If it’s still having problems, just buy some as5 and follow the directions for applying it yourself.
CD/DVD burning program. If you use it on the often, I’d update that Cineplayer-thingawhatever. If not, I’d uninstall Roxio completely. Nero FTW.
LeRaldo was basically spot on. Also, like you mentioned, it’s summer and it’s hot outside. That will play a large role on your CPU’s temperature, too. Games + hot weather = higher than “normal” temps. A friend of mine has a display on his case that shows the temperature of his CPU and regardless of what he’s doing with the machine, the outside temperature always plays the biggest role.
Alright, I downloaded SteadyState, are default options fine?
I’m the only one who uses the laptop and I keep it strictly to sites I know (such as here) and to run programs like Winamp, Acid Pro, AV programs, ect. If I need to use Limewire or something that poses as a risk, I use my desktop than transfer it to my external HD.
Speaking of which, is it possible for a trojan/spyware to jump from my desktop to my external to my laptop?
SteadyState is good with the default options, but I’ve been just turning them all off and using the program just for the “clear stuff at reboot” thing.
A file that is laced WITH a trojan could stay on your external and stay dormant until you open it up again.
Alright thanks, I think I’m safe then.
Low memory and poor English
Also, don’t type in all caps you idiot.
Not sure if anyone can help me, but this is the second time this has happened to me. Randomly when I take my computer apart to fix something (like swap PCI cards), my USB 2.0 ports (which happens to be all of my USB slots) stop working correctly. For some reason they still work, but they work at a reduced speed and sometimes force me to reinstall certain USB apps EVERY TIME I reboot my computer. For example, when this happens, I have to reinstall my USB wireless adapter every time I restart my computer… which becomes a huge pain in the ass sometimes. Furthermore, I get the message “this device can perform faster if inserted into a hi-speed USB 2.0 port, for a list of available ports, click here”. All of my USB ports are 2.0, and it doesn’t show the wireless adapter plugged in it at all for some reason. Once the wireless adapter connects to the internet, its speed ends up being 11 Mbps, when it should be a 54.
Oddly enough, this RANDOMLY fixed itself after a few weeks of having to deal with this. I happened to restart my computer one day and all the USB ports were working as intended. However, keep in mind that this problem ONLY occures when I take my computer apart, so I honestly have no idea why that would fuck up any kind of settings I have.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.
Make sure you have the cables installed correctly for your external USB ports. I think they are all emulations of the same port so if one of them is screwey then they all will be.
