i just recently switched to SP2 just so that i could use the media share feature on my ps3. the only reason i didnt switch before was because for some reason p2p filesharing programs were a tad slower, but there is a fix.
Not really familiar with the XP Pro without SP2 so I don’t know how improved it becomes.
Here’s the lowdown on SP2 with what all it does. I’ve always heard random people bitching about how they don’t want SP2 and how they never upgraded, but that just doesn’t make sense to me. Upgrade.
Cool, retail’s expensive as hell; good thing there’s ebay.
I don’t know why, but I am starting to get this error and I have no idea how to fix it.
USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
I’ve treid everything I can think of to corret this problem. I have all current updates and drivers for my motherboard and the device. It’s a radio shack (first mistake) ps2 to USB convertor. It used to work fine and now it won’t all of a sudden on my desktop. It works fine on my desktop though and it was simple plug and play, I’ve been getting this error a lot lately on different things, but not when I use those devices in other computers. Any suggestions?

omniexizt, i found a website that has a few solutions to your problem. check it out and hopefully it goes well :).
Can anyone help me figure out why when I exit mame32k from a network game, all my windows become all dark and black, when I right click my desktop it’s a black window and I can barely see the words unless I pass the cursor over them? anyone help??
Never happened to me, but any time I run into a problem with mame, I move one folder/file out at a time to see if it’s the cause. Try folders ini or nvram, maybe memcard. If not those, try the mame32.lst file located in there.
An even easier way would be set up a new mame in another folder and test that out to know if the same thing happens. At least then you know if it’s your computer or the emulator.
Nope, no viruses (that I can find). After a partition/wipe/reload of Windows and still no go. I flashed the firmware and it takes fine, but the problem still persists. I’m sending it back to Newegg. I need to try it out on another PC, but I’m lazy and fairly certain of my competence at troubleshooting a mere mouse… I wonder if using this thing on carpet will cause the optical parts to stop working. That’s the only thing new I’ve done and I’ve been doing it for a month. Hmmmm…
I received a Costco catalogue the other day with the following system:
HP Desktop with 22" Widescreen Monitor
-Intel Viiv Core 2 Duo E4400
-2GB RAM
-320 GB hard drive
-DVD RW DL
-ATSC/NTSC TV tuner plus remote
-15 in 1 card reader
-Model HP a6157c-b
-$899.99
My current PC is a few years old and I want to upgrade. I don’t mind the TV tuner in there since I don’t own a Tivo. Monitor’s a step up from my current one. It has an Intel graphics accelerator so a real graphics card will have to be put in later but I figure I can cross that bridge when I get to it. My question is if the specs here are an appropriate starting point for a decent gaming system lasting a couple years in relation to the price, or if I’m better off looking elsewhere. I haven’t shopped for parts enough to tell if this is a no-brainer or not, so any input at all is appreciated.
Considering I built a similar system for the exact same price, and there’s a good longevity to it… yeah, worth it… this is mine, so you get an idea…
$730
Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, Allendale Core
2GB DDR2 800MHz with 4/4/4/12 timings
320GB Seagate HDD
NEC DVD RW
Zalman CNPS9500 CPU cooler
GeForce 7800GT
SoundBlaster X-Fi with front panel
Enermax 550W power supply off a trade with Mister Wizard.
Keep in mind, a lot of my stuff I got on one time deals, and most of it has lifetime warranties. PSU, RAM, GFX all have lifetime, HDD has five, soundblaster + tv tuner has 1, everything else has three.
I kept my old case, second DVD rom drive, fans, and Wireless card, so that’s not included in the price. I had no monitor or windows, which is a big difference in price.
Someone help me here
System powers on… cpu/case fans spinning (psu fan doesn’t), but no live screen, no beeps, nada… just powers on and stays there.
In the meantime, I’m gonna start takin stuff out of the case and see what happens to be sure, but does the above sound like a ps/mobo issue?
Oh yeah, I’ve already tried another gfx card that I know works… no luck there either, so I’m thinkin it isn’t a gfx card problem…
specs-
athlon 64 3000+
gigabyte geforce 6600gt 128mb
geil 2gb (2 x 1gb) ddr400 ram
80gb maxtor 7200rpm ata133 hd
antec 500pw psu
I’m going to take a wild guess here. Let’s assume that it’s a power supply issue.
Turns on: fails, not a PSU issue…
Now, let’s turn to the rest of the guts… Could it be a main board issue? yes. If you have a PCI-E graphics card, then it could be the PCI controller, likewise with AGP. Here’s a question… Turn it on, wait a few, and listen to see if the hard drive starts running. If it does, then BAM, there’s your problem, and you need a new motherboard, but that’s about the only new things you need…
Now, let’s see about other components…
Bad bios on the board. that can be fixed if your mainboard has a built-in bios recovery. Easy enough, if the board supports it.
bad processor. your computer will boot up with the bios screen with no RAM, but not with a bad processor. It could be a combined proc / mobo issue.
Bad ram: as i said, it will at least get to the bios screen, so it’s not that.
about my comp problem. some indiaa dude calll me n tell me to call him so he could help me with the comp problem. i dunno if i wanna cuz its so hard to understand him when listening to his message. what should i telll him about my comp to make it quick n fastt, dun wina stay onn thee phonee to longgg nahh meaann.
if i askk them if i cann email the comp to him, u think he lett me/ cuzz what i thinkk iss he gonna try n go step over step tryin da help me fix the damn thingg.
After examining my mobo, it looks like there’s a couple of bulged capacitors. Guess I’ll need to replace it after all =( This shit always happens to me when I’m broke, lol
Edit: Any recommendations on a socket 939 board?

Building a studio PC
I’ve never built a PC before but a friend of mine needs a computer built for the sole purpose of producing and recording music. I’ve done a little research and this is what I plan to build:
**
Processor: **AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2
**Mother Board: **GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 ATX AMD Motherboard
**Memory: **G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory
Power supply: Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W Power Supply 115/230 V
**Case: **Rosewill R103A Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply with 20+4 pin connector
**Hard Drive: ** Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JB 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive
**PCI Stuff ** (which I’m not too sure about getting): M-Audio Delta 1010 LT PCI Digital Audio Computer Interface
Koutech PCI to USB2.0 Card Model IO-PU520
HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
The total price fell under $1000, which was the original price range.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I’m missing something, if I’m buying the wrong stuff or even if I can find a better deal with in the price range of these things.
Thanks SRK!
