Complete "How to Change the Music in MVC2 + How to make your game selfboot" Thread

Also, I dunno if anyone else noticed this. I noticed it on the version preppy was handing out at Evo.

Regarding Sentinel:

I’m sure you’ve all seen the obvious problem w/ doing HK drones, when the drones drop bombs you can see the hitboxes around the bombs and such. The other thing I noticed is during his winpose where the steam comes out of his joints or whatever. It came out as little squares of black that appeared/disappeared where the steam would be coming from. I’m assuming this is because it’s not in the original palette for changing the color so it might just register as black since it was never edited. You guys might want to look into that, but I’ll see if I can find a palette for it in the editor.

Thank You Donuts!

i dont know how to save it as different formats. i’m just saving direct screen shots.

you are saving the color configs though right? Just do file -> patch and it saves what you did.

One way to get clearer screenshots, atleast what I do, is make the background black or white, it seems like when you screenshot any other color BG it makes it fuzzy or something and you get a weird haze around the characters.

And I’ve been editing my post on the previous page too. Making pretty good progress. Thinking of ditching the candy cane colors though for something a little more vibrant, I’m think 4 color spots for each character to be on a team and then 2 slots for random colors for the character.

Also, Cynistar. I don’t like critiquing other peoples stuff, especially someone who didn’t ask for it. But a few of your sprites (mainly the Sentinels) have shading flaws. You’ll want to follow the same general pattern in the original palette. You have some lighter colors where it’s supposed to be a darker shadow and it just looks funny = /. Anyway, keep on truckin.

ok with that situation, what happens is the first color the very top left color should be black and have A= 0 R=15 G=15 B=15
the a is alpha and should never be changed, thats why you see the hit boxes, that box i believe was for debugging in testing or something. but you can see the actual hitboxes in NullDC i think when you turn on wireframe

The boxes you see with color 0 are the actual size of the parts of the frame being drawn, since you’re making the normally transparent background color visible. Since it’s cut up in tiles for the game, you get squares surrounding various parts of the character instead of one big box. Same with wireframe - you see the edges of the polygons they’re drawing the character with. They have nothing to do with the hitboxes, which would be really useful if we COULD see them.

You can also see individual tiles get screwed up if you do the unpause/pause bug.
Mike Z

alright, thanks for the clarification, and thanks to 3D as well. I guess before I finish my edits I will go through all the palettes and make sure I didn’t change any of those by accident and hope that problem goes away.

Since you’re in this thread though, Mike, any requests on a color for team Mike-Z? I have a teal/gold version on my post linked but I figured since I’m doing your team, I could do a color you want since I got plenty of spots left for those characters.

Also, anyone know Duc’s favorite colors for a team duc tribute? Or get him in here? I’ll see if I can find him on irc.

it seems i have a little competition here while im working away
just wait once i get my work done with the Pal Mod program
ill be all over with custom colors
plus some extras

can someone kindly point me in right direction to get all these sounds easily? heck even this particular marvel music edit would be great too. thanks

good job on transitioning that white ironman, the black maybe a little lighter?

For me when i was getting the songs, it actually kinda took a while for me to find them. Your best bet to find them though is from torrents and a file sharing program (like limewire). However though when u dl the originals it wont sound exactly the same as the one used in the custom mix at Evo so editing will have to be done on pretty much all the songs that i listed.

Haha, nah, no competition. I am just having fun with editing the colors and coming up with some schemes for popular teams. I think people would like to have characters with matching outfits that aren’t just black and white. Boo @ black/white/gray. Yea, I’m gonna keep saying it. BOOOOOO!

It’s all good though, I just wanna make marvel a little more colorful and have a good soundtrack, even though it’s still the same game, atleast it’ll be a breath of fresh air with some new, more vibrant colors and coordinated team outfits.

I look forward to seeing yours though. Maybe I should stop posting mine and keep em a secret? :open_mouth: Haha, j/k.

can you send me those songs via postal mail will pay you like $10 for your troubles my friend. will paypal work g? let me know

wild kitty i tried fixing some of the shadows. let me know if they look better now.

They seem to look better. One other thing you might want to try is this.

Make the 2-3 shadow colors darker and less saturated than the highlights. For the 2-3 highlight colors, make the gap between those and the shadows bigger than the gaps between the individual highlights. This will provide a higher contrast and make the characters pop out and really come to life. I’ll show you a specific example with this sentinel that I happen to have handy.

This is how I originally did the color just to get an idea for the scheme:

That’s the Mr. Wizard inspired sentinel that Watts suggested to me. He liked the color scheme and all was well, but not perfect. The shadows and highlights follow the correct general pattern and there’s no funky shading issues. It looks pretty clean there.

There’s the second version of it I did. You see how I made the shadows darker and the highlights lighter? It really makes sentinel stand out and look a little bit realer. You just widen the gap between the shadows and highlights. This is one reason I am tending to stay away from whites/grays/blacks as far as this is concerned. It’s really hard to get a good contrast in those colors at low levels because of the lack of variety in the hues available on the palette. Sure you can adjust the slider a bunch of minute, single digit adjustments, but that doesn’t apply for saturation, which is a key tool in defining the shadows and highlights.

Just think about that and look at those two pictures and you can really make your characters pop out and look more comic-book’ish. Look at the other ones in my post two pages back and you’ll see similar stuff.

There’s another good example of making the highlights pop out. Some chars are harder to do it with without them looking funky, but you should get the general idea.

Edit: Check out the post 2 pages back with my characters on it. Check out Team “Negro Install” - i’m sure it’ll make you laugh

any updates the program for editing colors?

i heard supabuu or someone was working on improved version… …

:bgrin: can’t wait for this update

All we need now is for a TDC disc to have the edited colors and guilty gear soundtrack and we are set! One can dream.

i just tried out supabuu pal mod, NICE! :bgrin:

but can someone tell me what are all those other numbers after the first 6 palettes? seriously there are like 50 or so more palettes, each of these palettes has it own color “shading”

is someone coming out with a guide for all these extra palettes?

A new TDC could be made, but believe me, that thing is PACKED full already. In order to make room for one addition full set of character palettes would require removing Ikaruga and the hidden Shmup game. Same thing with adding another soundtrack; more would have to be sacrificed.

I was thinking a SRK MvC2 disc would be a better option. With a base size of 150 megs, and about 50 megs for each additional pallette set, and between 30-60 megs per soundtrack option, I could fill the disk with tons of different palette and soundtrack options.

Me and SuupaBuu are working on it
im trying to put together a guide… but its quite tedious and my attention span isnt that long for writing guides
