ok i know there are quite a few people out there who are having a little trouble with editing
so i figured i would take a response i sent to someone and use it to help the rest of you
ok well it all depends on the char you are trying to edit
they have their basic standard colors, the (LP,LK,HP,HK,A1,A2) but then there are the extra frames each character has extra frames for being hit by certain things and also when they do certain moves. Which char are you trying to edit. like lets start with ryu, alot of colors are tied in with certain parts of the body, look at the default palette and identify the colors of the body. The 1st one is a blank color, it goes to nothing
The 2nd one is the belt and headband
3rd-8th are his skin/ hair
9th is his eye color
10th is the hair as well
11-15 are his Gi colors
16-17 are his gloves
now that you have identified his colors, now you can select those sets of colors to edit
start with 11-15, click and drag from 11 to 15 it should select those colors with a red box around them, you can go to hue and mess with the to change the color, but if its white or black no changes will be made, you have to select saturation, that affects how much color is changed, turn it all the way up to find the color you want then adjust it to your liking. once you find a color you like then you can either leave it like that or adjust it a little bit more, with the lightness. that will either add more white or more black into the colors, be careful cause too much will make the transition between colors not look natural. so once you play around with it a little bit you might find a color that you like, sometimes there is a stray color in there, it happens from time to time. just select that color and adjust the hue saturation and lightness to make it fit, if you still cant get it, try and copy the nearest color to it and adjust the lightness to show a “seemless” transition between colors. it will take some time and patience to get the color the way you want, but its worth it
Then you want to rebuild the image like if you were editing the music, and load it up in NullDC, if you need i can send you a link to the VMU with all the unlocked chars. test out your char, do all his moves, supers, taunts, and hit reactions. if he changes colors then there is another palette that you need to edit, just play around with it till you find it. Im trying to label the palette numbers according to thier color, looooooong process. But one thing i do is when they start changing colors i do the move that makes them change and try and Screenshot it or pause it on that frame, fraps works pretty good for the screenshooting. then have that open in the background and cycle through your chars palettes look for the matching colors. but be aware of its position, if you are editing LP make sure the palette is the first in the series… let me explain.
ok im editing the LP color of storm but she keeps changing between colors. so i go through the palettes and i see a pattern coinciding with the colors as such
LP=grey/silver
LK=pink/silver
HP=yellow/silver
so the palettes start looking like this
(-grey/silver, slightly darker grey/silver, dark grey/silver, pink, blue, orange, black, black
- pink/silver, slightly darker pink/silver, dark pink/silver, pink, blue, orange, black, black
- yellow/silver, slightly darker yellow/silver, dark yellow/silver, pink, blue, orange, black, black, etc…)
that might be the color changes during her lightning attack, so what ever color changes you made should be reciprocated here but in the pattern they have here
so like me i made a crimson/blood red storm, i would paste those colors, on the first grey/silver of the chain, then paste it on the slightly darker grey/silver but select the entire palette and use the lighten to darken my new color to match the original and do the same for the dark grey/silver. i know that might sound confusing but its the simplest way i can put it with out pictures.
im pretty spread out right now with this project, but i will have a decent tutorial written up in time… but the key word is time.
as well as videos, and if someone can try and put up a site for us so we can kind of compile all our knowledge/pictures/palettes into it. I will answer all your questions when i read them.
ok well thats all i can think of right now
