Here’s the link to the custom MvC2 for PS2:

Big differences are how the music files are packaged and your new adx files must be 48000khz or else the game will freeze. Follow the tutorial very closely and make sure you dont skip a step or it will not work.
the hottness
Got it covered, but thanks. Now to hunt down a jap version of double impact
Good stuff ComboMasher
Im ganna try this today. WISH ME LUCK!
Turtle Edit: If i already have a custom marvel can i just insert the disc, replace the files and reburn it?
You can use a custom marvel as your original disk, but you still have to follow the steps in Combomasher’s instructions.
DAMNIT! Third Strike for DC won’t run if there are stray files in the SOUND directory! All this time I thought it didnt like the ADX’s I had used, when instead it just didnt like the text file I left in the directory. GRRRR.
Question: Do i turn up the volume on the sound files before or after theyve been converted to ADX?
Also this part in combomashers tutorial is confusing me a bit.
The next step is to make the newly created ISO selfboot. First you must rename the file extension of the ISO file from “.iso” to “.bin”. To do this just go to “START” - “Control Panel” - “Tools” - “Folder Options”-“View”- and uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”. Then delete the “.iso” and change it to “.bin”
You convert them while they’re a .WAV, before you convert them to ADX.
He’s just saying to rename the .ISO to a .BIN. Most people have file extensions hidden so they can’t see or rename them. The extra step is to make sure you see and can change the extension.
Well, turns out you can do linking on a windows box, but comes with a little risk.
“Be careful when using this option on a filesystem without unique inode numbers as it may result in files containing the wrong content on CD.” - From the man page.
In order to do it, you have to have Cygwin and mkisofs installed. Inside your little work directory, place the original files. Use the ‘ln’ command to make hard links for the duplicated files, or ‘cp -r -l’ for duplicating whole directories. Then, when you use mkisofs to make the ISO, use the command switch ‘-cache-inodes’. It’s been working for me in linux and not cygwin because the -cache-inodes switch is enabled by default on linux, and not in cygwin.
Is it possible to change the soundtrack for any PS2 game?
Say like, Melty Blood?
Or is this just for certain Capcom fighters like CvS2 / 3S / MvC2 and how it handles things?
Not to hijack the thread completely, but I figured out what the hell everything in MB is compressed under.
They’re using CRI’s ROFS as a virtual file system, and I’m nearly certain the actual music tracks are in ADX format.
Found the file format (in Japanese). Apparently this mounts straight as an ISO out of Daemon tools?
That’s a good thing or a bad (for those of us who want to change the music) :O?
sup dawg! just got back from vacation early this week, man i tried your setup you posted and couldn’t get it to work, i think i missed something, i’m gonna give it another shot this weekend and i’ll post my results G!
I would like to say a categorical I Love You to everyone who’s helped make these projects happen. This is all great work that’s done a lot to keep people interested.
I dunno if he still reads this thread, but NKI asked for a silent version of Super Turbo for DC,which I made for him. Now Im laughin because there’s an option to disable the BGM in the options menu where you adjust the BGM volume. Whoops, we both missed that one.
I’m having trouble trying to change the music on 3s. For some reason when I tried to change the songs from wav to adx, I did not see any changes to it so I just changed the songs manually and when I tried to burn it, it did not work. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have no problem making a marvel mix but making a custom 3s is giving me some trouble.
…:amazed:
Initial build is done; still need to do all the linking for multiple soundtracks, but the hard part seems done.
So far:
CvS2
MvC2 - USA
MvC2 - Jap
3rd Strike - USA
3rd Strike - Jap
Puzzle Fighter
Super Turbo
Ikaruga
WIth the DreamPassport 3 browser and GameShark as a bonus, all on one lovely cd for DC.
Anyone got a PAL dreamcast willing to do a little testing for me?
I guess Im about the only one posting in this thread it seems
A few things:
-
It seems someone wrote a utility to do the file linking under windows. I havent used it personaly, but would be something to look into. Just as an example, making a MvC2 disk with the option of, oh, 10 different soundtracks would be very doable. Follow the “Multiple File LBA Copier v1.3” link here: http://www.bucanero.com.ar/descargas.php?id_categoria_descarga=2

Using the 45000 LBA DATA/DATA method for selfbooting is MUCH more reliable than the usual Audio/Data method. My audio/data discs would boot maybe half of the time (have to keep resetting the DC to get it to finally boot), but the 45000 Data/Data discs boot flawlessly every time. A little more work, but well worth it.

A tutorial on using XDP (translated browser) for a menu to boot many games on one disk should be easy; If you guys want it, let me know and I’ll throw it together and ask Combomasher to host it.

I’ve got everything mentioned in the post above on a disk, and still have a little under 50 megs free. I need some ideas of what would be cool to put in. Im also open to the idea of ditching Ikaruga, freeing up another 30 something megs, if it means I can fit a decent fighting game in. Im open to suggestions; World Warrior/CE/Hyper Fighting via MAME4all? Streets of Rage via the genesis emu? Converting some awesome video to SFD for watching? An additional soundtrack of custom music? Beats of Rage and some mods for it? SamSho2 via AES4all? Utopia bootdisk or DC-X? Tons of puny puzzle games like Bust a Move, Sega Tetris, Swirl, ChuChu? Please give any feedback.
#3) The tutorial would be nice :)! And I will host it ofcourse!
#4) Could you get x men vs street fighter on it lol? Maybe some video as the BG of the menu would be cool if it could be done. Puzzle games might be a cool idea.
