Complete "How to Change the Music in MVC2 + How to make your game selfboot" Thread

I’m diggin the Doom edits as well as the Smoke Sent…sry but you guys are just gonna have to wait till SBIII for my edits to come to light…>>…

I’ll rephrase…

Please be careful that your crazy awesome psychedelic mix doesn’t fuck over actual tournament gameplay just so you can prove how awesome you are at color editing. And you are, this is great stuff, no doubt, but your artistic skills shouldn’t trump gameplay.

If you actually look at Oh So Boring regular Marvel, you’ll notice a lot of attention was given to the actual color scheme as far as a lack of sudden startling eye-jarring contrasts, not too much character flicker (the flashings/glintings of Silver Samurai and powered-up Juggernaut and Spiral are all pretty muted), and other elements that make for a muted but effective color palette.

All I have to say to all aspiring editors is to have at least a backup OG Mix in case there are issues with your color edits come game time…ppl don’t want crazy shit like black Cap corridors plaguing the screens and such!!

There’s still time to make an edit compilation disc for Evo.

Im taking my mix to evo.

Yeah, I got what you’re saying and I agree. I try to keep the move edits as “normal”/low key/basic as possible.

However…now that you mention it, I kinda went a little overboard when doing Juggarnaut’s power-up. Looks real good, but yeah, anyone who doesn’t know about it (which would be everyone 'cept me) will be hella confused by it.

Hit me up, and I’ll send you my data files so you can check’em out.

  • Geronimo

think i’ll put together a new mix with fresh colors. kinda hard to do that though, i might just steal a bunch of other ppl’s stuff… that’ll be much easier. muahaha.

I’m going to revert Silver Samurai’s black shurikens (good idea in theory, too hard to see on the Factory stage) and then will send my colors to Toodles for whatever potential Color Edits Compilation might be made.

(More random editing thoughts:

  • Play on the Factory and Ice stages so you can see if you’re too black or too white.
  • Don’t fuck with Sentinel’s flight flames. And don’t make his regular (non-flight) jets blue because you’ll screw up Sent users
    )

The way I see it, there are plenty of Mixes out there that follow this idea. Not to say my mix has crazy colors, neon and such(It doesn’t). It has basic colors that do not, imo, distract from the gameplay. I have never been distracted by the color edits I have seen unless the colors are just horrible. As far as a Black Corridor, I believe I have one in there with a grey trim. I don’t see how basic colors distract from the gameplay. I have yet to see any person lose because of the colors of extras in a mix.

On the other hand I’ve been to lots of places around the country playing lots of strange mixes and HAVE seen people lose before of the colors of extras in the mix. Clearly Storm or Cyclops flashing colors is stupid, but doing things like having blue Sent jets be the normal color has cost people games because they couldn’t tell if they were flying or not. And I’ve certainly been hit because I’m visually stunned by some fluorescently awesome Captain Commando corridor that breaks my concentration and then I have to look back to figure out where the hell my opponent is. Marvel’s a game of milliseconds, so people needing to figure out what the fuck just happened on screen ever gets people killed.

The Commando corridor in particular is massively distracting during regular gameplay. But maybe I just notice these things since I’ve worked in computer design on stuff like contrast issues and how they affect people’s interaction with software.

Anyways, your point was “how does it” - I think the blue regular jets for Sent is a pretty clear example of how it can.

I’m not attempting to bash anyone, just pleading for an extra dash of reason just in case somebody fucked up and might be able to catch it if they think about it now.

Word, outside of Mag’s normals I never dabbled into changing beams or anything.

“fluorescently awesome”

That had me laugh out loud in a quiet call center, Preppy!

I can see your point of view, from a previous post, also. I did not change the blue jets on Sent on either of my mixes.

I tried to change the jets on sentinel it didn’t work out too good, so its best to just leave them as they are.

i’d say if you’re going to change them… change them a color that is obviously different than jumping or dashing jets. completely different, ya know. i’m pretty sure my mix was pretty fucked up bc i change a lot of extras when it came to that extent.

come on, prepster! i need some critisism… the harsher the better. how bad was mine? lol

play you for a copy =D

have you tried uninstallng and reinstalling? if anything try redownloading that portion of the selfboot kit.

thanks for the reply quest, i just now saw it but that is exactly what i did and i got it to work finally. now i have another problem hahah

i got all the way to the end, and i have nero. so i downloaded cdi2nero and tried to use it but couldn’t get it to work for me. When i drag the .cdi file into cdi2nero program a DOS screen comes up. I tried to type the syntax line provided in the readme file but it didn’t work. So my question is this…how can i make the @#$( thing work OR can anybody point me in the way of disc juggler. I tried download.com and it didn’t have it x_X

THIS! The colors were chosen for a reason. making entire teams matchup is bad because it’s hard to tell which sprites are which. In addition, all black MSS is bullshit.

Your on, see you at evo
